Copthorne Hotel Rotorua

Stayed for the weekend whilst in Rotorua. Very nice room on top floor. Plenty of space for the family. Very clean. Kids loved the pool. Breakfast was great and staff were very efficient despite it being very busy. Very helpful and polite staff throughout hotel. Enjoyed our stay !

What a tired property, Copthorne is usually reliable. This one had no aircon in rooms, no thermal pools, poor TV reception, is just a bus stop for hundreds of Chinese package tourist families, not returning to this one. Beds too soft. Needs a 20 million dollar makeover. Actively discourage you from staying. The backpackers places probably have aircon.

This place is tired! We stayed for three nights for work, so I wasn’t paying. That said, if I had been I wouldn’t be a happy camper. This hotel is essentially a dormitory for Chinese tour groups. The carpet is torn. The lifts are slow. The roof leaks. The bathrooms don’t have extractor fans. The aircon is noisy. There is no Sky tv. The beds are comfortable, the linen was clean. The buffet breakfast was expensive for what was on offer and the quality wasn’t great. Admittedly the tofu, Szechuan pickled vegetables, noodles and rice added some variety but the bacon, eggs and pancakes didn’t impress. Head down the road to Urbano for breakfast; fresh clean flavours. If you want a budget crash-pad for adventuring and exploring this is fine. If you plan to spend any time in your room for entertainment, or have visions of wonderful in hotel dining this isn’t the place for you.

Staff are friendly but this hotel is not 4 star. The lobby is newly renovated but our room was in need of a make over. Bathroom was very tired and basic. Perfect for a stop over accommodation. They have pool and spa which we didn't use because of the rain

Stayed 3 nights with my family, no wifi, no sky tv. Rooms need to be updated carpet and bathroom not the best. Breakfast excellent did not have dinner due to complaints from reading reviews. Staff was good, pool and spa good. Would not stay again and would not recommend this place.

Frankly I was a bit apprehensive to go for this hotel after reading the views but however went for it. This hotel was a part of my honeymoon package, but was pleasantly surprised with rooms and courteous staff. They guided us with star attractions of Rotorua. Special Thanks to Akash & Anupama from the front desk for making our stay comfortable. Following are the pros of the hotel for the budget travellers to consider this as their stay option. 1) This hotel is located like 20 mins from all major attractions of Rotorua 2) Provides free and ample parking to its guests unlike other hotels in country 3) Wider options in breakfast menu 4) Pro active staff During our stay there was some mechanical failure with Spa , however instead of waiting for maintenance , the people from front desk themselves got it up and working within no time. Highly recommended to all.

Disappointed is an understatement. We were sent to rooms at the back of the hotel that are very old and worn - not at all as we would have expected - more like Cell Block D. The first view of our two rooms said it all. The flooring was filthy, stained and disgusting. We had a baby with us who would normally be crawling on the floor - that was not at all possible so we had to entertain him on top of the bed. $202 per room, per night was not reasonable for the state of the room and it's contents. Spare blankets are all worn, spare toilet roll looked like it had already done the rounds, These standards are nowhere near acceptable. We ended up checking out just before midnight because when we turned back the beds to get in we found the sheets were all crinkled as though they had been slept in. Couldn't tell if they were clean. To top it off there was a large cockroach in the room. Disgraceful Copthorne!!!

We stayed here as part of a group from Hong Kong. Can't fault the place. The rooms were all spotless, the facilities were just what we needed and the rooms were spacious and comfortable. Please don't think that this place is only for school trips. I'd be happy to come back with my wife. The WiFi was only available in the common areas but this did't affect us in the slightest. Once all the students were in bed, we had a sneaky drink in the bar (tidy and reasonable prices) and then went to bed. Hopefully we will be back.

This hotel has not been upgraded since the 70's. The rooms are tired with stains all over the carpets and old worn out furniture and poor lighting and inadequate power sockets in awkward positions. When asked to move rooms the reception staff couldn't be less helpful. The only positive about this stay was that the towels and linens we're clean and fresh and the bed was comfortable. Given the amount of accommodation in Rotorua I would encourage you to stay anywhere else. Due to the deferred maintenance of this accommodation I did not eat here as I dreaded to find out how poor the quality of the food would be from the kitchens.

I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights in January this year with my family and was disappointed with my experience. First, their wifi offering is bad - no free wifi in rooms, and only 30 minutes of free wifi in the lobby per day per device. And the lobby wifi cut out after 10 minutes consistently. Second, they charge you even for local calls made from the room. Third, they charge you 2% surcharge if you pay for the rooms by credit card. Fourth and personally the most disappointing part of my experience was that I accidentally left something important to me in the room and was not able to retrieve it. I called the hotel about 8 times over two days asking about the item. They kept saying they would call or email me back about it but never did. After several calls, they told me there was no item left (I am 200% sure I left it there and even told them exactly where in the room). They kept saying they'd check with the head of housekeeping or the specific employee who serviced my room on check out and let me know but I didn't even get a courtesy call/email back from them. In the end, I am not as mad about losing the item as I am about the poor handling of the situation despite repeated assurances that they would follow up. Would not recommend this hotel to anyone. Sorry! This is the only bad review I have ever written for any hotel I've stayed at!
