Wai Ora Lakeside Spa Resort

We stayed here on the first leg of our three week tour. The rooms are comfortable, very practical but not luxurious. We enjoyed the location next to the lake, which was perfect for a stroll. Certainly would stay again and be happy to recommend. We didn't use the spa or the pool, but both looked great

Really friendly staff and relaxing atmosphere. Comfy bed and delicious food. Massage was great Decor and furnishings need a fresh update as same as 5 years ago. Overall great place to stay !! :) :) :)

The Resort has an extraordinary view of the Lake and some of the best food we had while in New Zealand. I worked a little more than I should have while I was there so I did not make very much time for the spa but the other guests seemed to really enjoy it. The employees were all very nice, respectful, and helpful. The resort is a short drive from the airport, far enough away that the planes will not intrude on your peace and quiet but close enough that you can take the resort's shuttle to catch your plane and expect to be there in minutes. I highly reccommend!

The staff are very welcoming and helpful but the fact still remains the accommodation is more motel than hotel - overpriced and over sold as a spa 'resort'. If you don't have transport it is a distance from the city centre.

Good stay. Location excellent with good views. Room of high standard. Staff helpful and polite. Room serviced very well. Dinner was good. We had continental breakfast which was also good - choice of cereals/toast/fruit

I hope Anyone who is reading previous reviews will take them with a huge grain of salt. We booked based on reviews that were not representative of reality. We booked a superior suite for 2 nights at $495 a night. We are world travelers and know a resort when we see it. This is not a resort. It’s a tired motel with a couple of pools and some free standing hot tubs. Spa is a couple of massage rooms. As soon as we arrived we knew it was a mistake but too late to cancel. Suite was just a regular size room with a bed walled off. Decor tired and shabby. We had to lug our own Bags up to the second floor. They had a receptionist no bellman. It’s located by the lake but 15 minute drive into the town where all the restaurants are. We left for a day of sightseeing at 8am left the please make up the room sign on the door and when we arrived back late afternoon the room had not been cleaned. There was not even a complimentary bottle of water in the room something we get everywhere we stayed on this Australia and New Zealand trip. There are other hotels of equal or better quality in town which we wish we had booked. There is a very nice looking Novotel, a short walk from the lake and lots of restaurants, for half the price. There is a really cute small hotel called the Regent. We ate dinner there. Similar size bright clean and art Deco theme. Lovely outdoor pool area. In closing stay anywhere else than Wai Ora

We enjoyed our stay here very much but there were two key points to praise. 1. We booked the two night spa experience online and were contacted prior to our stay to make sure we booked in our massage times to ensure that we didn't arrive to only find all appointments booked out. 2.We arrived back at the hotel after 9pm on our second nights stay and enquired if we could eat in the restaurant. We were advised that we were unable to as it was closing. However we were able to order anything on the full menu and have it delivered very promptly to our room. Very impressed.

Despite arriving really late we were served a first class meal. We had the special of Prime Rib to share and it was cooked to perfection. The staff were very friendly and helpful and nothing was a problem. Restaurant was small but still had a lovely atmosphere.

I booked a Superior Suite at approx $595 per night, while the room was ok I do not think it was deserving of the price. I would not be going back for that price. While the lobby and restaurant were quite well presented, there was a general feel of tiredness in the hallways and in our room. In saying tiredness i mean just not 4.5 star worth. Perfectly acceptable for 3-3.5 star even 4 at a push but the price needs to be reduced to reflect this. So if you find a cheaper price for the Superior Suite then it would be worth it.

We had a family room with a separate bedroom (queen bed) and a pull out couch in the main room for our children. We had a nice view of the pool and lake from our balcony. The hotel is a 15 minute drive out of town near the airport and located on the lake. It is aways from the thermal springs and the sulphur aroma isn't as strong. The room had a small kitchen, a large, very nice bathroom and was spotless. There was ample storage in the bathroom but not a lot in the bedroom for 4 people. We had access to the beachfront, the pool was great as was the spa area. There was a shared laundry. The staff were excellent. The dinners at the restaurant were fantastic. The included breakfast, average.
