We stayed here for a very relaxing weekend. We were warmly greeted by the receptionist and restaurant manager and shown the hotel facilities and into our room. The deluxe room was very nicely appointed with a lovely firm bed. The spas and hot pool were great for our evening soaks with a glass of wine and the steam room was bliss. We ate once in the restaurant and thought the food and service to be excellent, and it's understandable it's award winning food. Improvements? Would have been nice if there had been an offer to take our bags to the room. Installation of coat hooks and dressing gown hooks. Candles on the dining tables would have created just a bit more of a romantic atmosphere. Thank you for a lovely relaxing time. Definitiely will be back!

Cons: The property is a bit out of the way and they stop running the shuttle after a fairly early time (something like 6:30 pm), so if you plan on eating in town plan on adding about $60 to your dinner tab to cover the cost of a cab. One major complaint. When we arrived, I needed to confirm how we were to get to the bus depot. "Everything has been taken care of" was the quote I received from reception. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. The hotel staff failed to make note of this and if it weren't for Semi, we would have missed our bus to Auckland. Thank you, Semi, for rushing us to town with about 2 minutes to spare! The property is pretty far from the city - about a $30 taxi ride and there is literally nothing nearby. Some of the staff have hotelier skills but fail to connect with clients. There were too many moments where simple requests were met with "I need to check with the duty manager". We were only there for two nights! The Good: Semi, who found out that it was the hotel's responsibility to get us to the bus station and made a record-time shuttle run to get us there on time. A special shout-out to Ruhi who has an exceptional work ethic as well as the social skills that make people welcome and comfortable... and nothing was a problem. Very well done! The restaurant delivers exceptional food with interesting dishes. By far the best dinner we had in our 6 weeks of heavenly dining. Overall: The hotel itself is nice and laid out in a courtyard fashion around a very nice looking pool area. It's a shame the rooms couldn't face the lake as the property is on the lake. There are things I really liked about the hotel but I cannot justify a top rating on the restaurant alone.

We stayed here with our family of 5 in the October school holidays. We stayed in 2 superior suites and especially the last room facing the lake has lovely views. The room is spacious, clean and nicely laid out. We arrived at midday and were able to leave our luggage in the rooms before heading into town. Our children tried and enjoyed the spa, sauna and steam room. All seems to be well maintained and clean. It might pay to book a table for dinner as the restaurant is not very big and also open to public. We had to wait a little bit for a table to be made up for us when we arrived unanounced. The food was very nicely presented and we enjoyed our meals. Breakfast had a good variety of choices and was sometimes only a la cart, and on some days there was also a buffet available. The staff were friendly and helpful. The resort is very close to the airport and less than a 10 min drive into town. Generally the atmosphere was quiet and relaxed. We would definitely come back here.

Long way out of main part of town. Overall experience was OK without being great. Check-in was disorganised and clumsy with me having to explain we had booked 2 rooms and what the configuration of the rooms was to be despite having already confirmed this via email. Got shown "how to use the key" which was very strange given just about every other motel we have stayed at has a similar type system.

I stayed here for 2 nights on business. Let's start with my arrival - very friendly person on reception, who greeted me on arrival and showed me around the complex before taking me to my room. The room is very comfortable with a large bed, small desk with TV, small couch, coffee and tea making facilities and a fruit bowl with fruit!! The room was air conditioned. There were hot water bottles in the bathroom cupboard and robes with pool shoes to use when you are walking over to use the pool facilities. The pool and spa facilities are excellent. There is a small restaurant and bar onsite. Free wifi. I've stayed at plenty of hotels in Rotorua where I have paid a similar charge per night, but this one is absolutely standout. It is slightly outside of the main township, close to the airport. Lots of parking. Beautiful location, right on the lake. I will be back.

We had 2 rooms for 3 adults which were comfortable and well appointed. Rotorua can be cold in September/ October and the warmth of the aircon was most welcome. The ladies in the Spa looked after us very well. We couldn't use the outdoor hot tubs because of fierce winds and rain, but the bar was comfortable for our company meeting and we enjoyed several meals from the top notch chef and staff in the restaurant. The hotel was self rated as 4 star plus, however it was a bit shy of that.

Quality does not come cheap. I received what i paid for. Binod came with an umbrella to receive us at the car park when the weather was terrible. The weather was not perfect but we enjoyed every minutes of our stay here. The rooms were warm and cozy while arriving at the resort and all the necessary amenities were included. It have a top class restaurant and bar at the site and again the service is at the top of its place. We did not used their spa facilities and could not comment on that. We would highly recommend this place to anyone.

The staff at Wai Ora were very accommodating, we had a very late arrival and were sent an email prior to stay to advise that there would be someone there to great us. The resort is nicely situated away from all other hotels/motels in Rotorua and only a short drive from the main attractions in the area. For the value, I feel as though this is a great option. The rooms aren't huge, but clean, comfy and one a beautiful lake. The air con was kindly turned on in advance of our arrival, which was a nice gesture on a very chilly night. Other important notes Wifi was good not great, service was outstanding and very consistent, nice looking restaurant in the resort (never actually tried it, but food looked great), hot pool was extremely relaxing and the service from the ladies in the spa was outstanding. Loved the little stream that runs behind the pools and trees surrounding the pools, feels very natural. Don't have any criticism which tells you a lot about Wai Ora, very consistent at a very reasonable rate.

We had a lovely time at Wai Ora. The staff were all absolutely amazing. The food was really yummy and the chef catered for my 'no gluten no dairy' diet brilliantly. The mineral pool had just broken but they gave us vouchers for the mineral pools at Hells Gate which we really enjoyed. Our room was small -might be worth upgrading to the suite if you want more space.

A two and half hour drive from Auckland, 10 minutes outside of Rotorua town centre. My partner and I enjoyed a winter break by the shores of Lake Rotorua. The rooms are small but the bed was very comfortable, clean, bathroom a good size. The winter weather raged outside but we felt extremely comfortable and cosy, especially after soaking in the hot mineral pools. Use of hot tubs, steam room and sauna was also included. Dinner in the restaurant was fresh and tasty of a bistro standard, a confident creative menu. Staff very helpful and friendly. Wasn't happy with an additional charge for free range eggs at breakfast (surely if McDonalds can do it for free Wai Ora can) and the loud radio playing in the diningroom during breakfast - I don't need to hear funeral advertising or grisly world news over breakfast while I'm relaxing. The reception staff pointed us towards the local Redwood Forest, a 5 minute drive away, stunningly beautiful and well worth a visit. We went in the rain and loved it. We didn't make use of the spa massage facilities as the prices were for tourists.
