Apollo Hotel Rotorua

4.5 out of 5.0

The Apollo was a very nice place to stay. Check in was quick and easy. The room was nice and clean and tidy. It appeared someone had played with the TV Channels, so the channel numbers didn't tie in with what was advertised in the guests book, and the clock had been put forward an hour. The hotel was close enough to town if you had a car, or didn't mind the walk. Would definetly stay there again.

It wasn't the worst place I've stayed in, but the room, while large, had terrible lighting so it was really hard to do any work on my laptop, even with the curtains open. The bed was okay, but they need electric blankets or warmer duvets as the one thin blanket wasn't enough. I'm 155cm tall and the kitchen cupboards are very high - every day I would wash and leave out a cup, plate, spoon, etc and every day the staff would put them back in the cupboard, so I had to climb up on a chair to get them out again! Same with the blanket I had on the bed - it got put away each morning. The towels were really old and some had torn edgings and holes. I had to ask for a flannel and the staff had no idea what I was talking about. Don't expect breakfast if you're not Asian - we rolled up for breakfast the first morning and were told it was not included. We said no problem, just charge it to our rooms. "Sorry, we only offer breakfast for Asian tour groups." We were told to keep the curtains in the room shut when we were not in there as they'd had a few break-ins. Cleanliness was okay, but I doubt I'd stay here again.

Considering the cheap deal we got for 2 nights (through Grab One) we were pleasantly surprised with the Hotel. Staff were very good and helpful and the room was clean and nice. As people have commented the walls are quite thin so there is a bit of noise sometimes but as stated this is not an expensive place. In summary, not perfect but very good value for money.

Standard accomodation, clean and comfortable. There's nothing special for or against. It. I'd go there again if passing through Rotorua. Maybe my only complaint would be that it is some distance from the CBD?

At first glance the room was great and good value for money. However, too many negatives over our two night stay. The walls are paper thin, not unusual admittedly, but it sounded like conversations at a normal volume in the room next door were taking place in our room. The radiator was useless and incredibly loud - couldn't be turned on during the night because of the constant, loud dripping / gushing noises it emitted so it was a pretty chilly stay. Definitely not safe for children as electrics were exposed and hanging off the walls. The furniture was peeling (pretty much every item in the room) and the shower head was absolutely disgusting. Far too expensive for the quality.

The motel is a 5 mins drive out of town centre but just by Whakarewarewa Maori Village. Like others, we thought there was a musty smell, but is actually that of the Village geyser next door - no smell if it's raining. We ate at the bistro bar of the nearby Distinction Hotel just a short walk away - reasonable menu/prices. Took advantage of the free laundry service but not the pool due to rain.

Do not be fooled the pool is NOT HEATED the rooms have been let go it's not that clean checked in saw room and dirty cold run down pool checked OUT but at least we got full refund. Most Rotorua accomodation uses the geothermal to heat there pools that why we go there with kids.

For a Hotel that's more like a motel this is a nice quiet place to stay .Not in the guts of rotorua but not far away from it either . Pool ,Spa Sauna just out the door ( not that we got to use any ) Next door to maori and steam/mud Tourist venues . After reading other reviews i think i may be going soft on them --but we had a comfortable stay . for the $$ we got what we paid for .

Stayed for night in adjoining rooms. Rooms OK at best. Service poor. Unmanned desk, basic stuff. Pool was cold and a but aged and not open until 8:30 at weekends. It served its purpose but I wouldn't rush back.

Tidy enough and good location but bed was so uncomfortable we decided to go home early. Rooms were quite noisy too, from people in hallway and outside. They also dont do room service or cleaning on sundays.
