Our fourth stay at the Villa San Pio was as wonderful as the first time. We love this place! Maybe because of our loyalty, we were given a beautiful room with a terrace that was large enough to host a party. Unfortunately, the unusually cool and rainy spring this year prevented us from sitting out there, but we did enjoy looking out to the beautiful, quiet neighborhood of the Aventine’s villas. The front desk service is exceptional at this hotel. Upon leaving, as we reluctantly rolled our bags out the door, we heard the send-off: “Al quinto!” (To the fifth time!) We are already looking forward to it.
This hotel is beautiful. The location was in a residential type neighborhood. It was not easy to get to by public transportation, it was quite a hike from the nearest bus stop. The atmosphere and vibe of the hotel absolutely made up for the walk. The breakfast was included and the room rate was so great, I felt like we were getting away with something. We stayed in the solo building in the middle of the compound near the breakfast lounge. We will definitely return.
A good hotel in typical Italian style. We had a room with patio which was ideal. The room is clean and just about spacious enough. Located in a nice area away from the mass tourism but easy enough to get to town. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. We decided to drive to rome. Think twice as you will need to withstad italian drivers, the spaghetti roads and the ztl zone. Once at the hotel have a fenced off parking which is excellent. Internet speed is unusually good for italy. Breakfast is very good and in a nice location. The only thing below par is the TV, a 19 inch screen where you expect at least 41 inch.
We have just returned from 4 nights staying at the Hotel Villa San Pio and loved every minute! We ended up in one of the small double rooms which had a shower room, but we didn't go to Rome to spend hours in the hotel so it didn't matter too much (would have been nice to have a soak in a bath after the distance we walked though!!) The bed was huge and very comfortable and the room had almost everything we wanted (tea and coffee making facilities would have been an added bonus, but that is a very British request!). The breakfast was excellent, if people have managed to leave hungry it's their own fault! There were beautiful fresh pastries, cereals, fresh fruit, yogurt, meats, cheeses, scrambled eggs, bacon, toast, ciabatta and more. The staff are very attentive and throughout our stay we commented many times that the hotel definitely offers 5 star service. Having a welcome drink brought to us as we checked in, and someone to carry our bags and show us to our room, is something we have only generally experienced in much higher star hotels. The area that the hotel is situated in is an oasis of calm after the hustle and bustle of the city, yet only a few minutes walk from Circus Maximus. We absolutely loved our time in Rome and will definitely be back to see the few things we missed, and we will definitely be staying at the Hotel Villa San Pio when we do! Thank you to the staff for making our stay so great!
We chose this hotel based on the TripAdvisor reviews. We booked through Expedia and when coming to choose a room we only had the options of a Single, Double or a Triple room. You can imagine our disappointment when we entered a small room. However as we were only staying for 3 nights, it wasn’t an issue. The style of the room is shabby chic which is pleasing but but it was not a comfortable room. The double bed’s mattress sloped towards the centre; the bathroom had a small shower that didn’t close properly so you would get the floor wet. The noisy extractor fan was combined with the light switch so if you got up in the middle of the night, you would wake your partner with light and noise. Ladies, there is a hair dryer in the bathroom but I would suggest you bring your own. However the following day we asked the reception if they could sort the mattress out and they did. The staff were really helpful and friendly. The breakfast was very good with enough variety to satisfy most people. They don’t serve a full fried breakfast but the bacon and egg they serve is really tasty. The hotel is in a residential area, leafy and quiet. However it is about 20 -30 minutes to the center on foot. This might not seem long but if you have spent the whole day walking, you will find walking back exhausting. After the first day, we downloaded the “MyTaxi” app and travelled everywhere by taxi. On average we paid between 12 to 15 Euros a ride. This definitely improved our trip experience. The app is absolutely fantastic showing you how many minutes to taxi’s arrival, what car will pick you up, driver’s name, the estimated cost of the journey. We would pick a restaurant from TA put the name in destination and voila the cab would arrive in a few minutes. You didn’t even have to negotiate the address with the driver. Overall it is a nice hotel to stay at but I would suggest you phone the hotel directly and get a good room. You probably can get a better rate as well. They all speak English well so call them. If you decide to stay, definitely see one of Rome’s secret which is St Peter’s through a key hole. It’s only a 5 minute walk. Enjoy!
Lovely place to stay for a few nights. We stayed three. In a really quiet suburb so far enough from the manic city life but close enough to walk. Took us 20 minutes to the colosseum and about 30 minutes to the Vatican at a normal pace. Staff could not have been more helpful and welcoming. The room was smaller than I expected from photos on the website. However it was really nice and tended to every day. We did have a lovely sized balcony though so this was a bonus. I had booked 5 months in advance and requested this. Most of the rooms in our block and the other two did not have balconies so it depends on what you want, a big room or the balcony. Breakfast was nice with the usual choice of continental, cereals, fruits, cakes and breads. As typical Brits it was cereal, bacon with scrambled egg and the toast and jam which were all nice. If you want a place away from the madding crowd but near to the attractions this is the place. And if wanting to come from airport by training is less than a 10 minute walk to the metro. We had a lovely stay here and would reccomend it. Regards Count Stephen Von Craven
This is a lovely hotel. Clean and well presented a little noise from building work that was going on at the time of our visit but that can't be helped at times I suppose. Breakfast was lovely. Area was very nice. Would definitely recommend and love to return one day. Thank you for a wonderful stay.
Room was spacious and extremely clean. Asked for a balcony and received one. Very warm. Came with breakfast which was a really great deal. Staff were very friendly and helpful. It is a bit far from restaurants and the centre of Rome. But certainly walkable during the day. Would have liked tea/coffee making facilities in the room. And room services options were very limited.
Booked this hotel purely on trip advisor comments and we were not disappointed. The only negative thing about our whole trip was I thought our room was in need of tlc, mainly the walls very scuffed and marked and looked a bit shabby but other than that bed was comfy and nice shower room and to be honest we were not in the room much. Breakfast was good and the hotel is so peaceful and relaxing and staff very friendly and helpful. We packed so much in to our 4 day trip, we arrived very early but were able to get into our room which was great, we did all the attractions and walked everywhere clocking up 47 miles on my Fitbit! It’s the best way to see everything and soak up the atmosphere of Rome. I would recommend prebooking skip the line and a tour for both the collesum and vatican I have never seen queues like it and it’s low season, we ate at some of the restaurants that the hotel recommended and the prices were very reasonable and we enjoyed a early evening buy one get one free cocktail in the hotel bar in the garden. We found travelling from the airport to the hotel very easy we got a coach from airport to the termini and then the metro total 7.50 each one way so very reasonable, I would definitely stay at this lovely hotel again and highly recommend it
This hotel is on the Aventine Hill, in a quiet residential area. Two metro stops are within a moderate walk (Pyramide and Circus Maximus), it's an easy stroll to the shops and restaurants of Testaccio, and indeed for those inclined to walking all the sights of Central Rome are close enough. Ostiense train station is also not far, and it is a stop on the express train to and from Fumincino airport -- although if you have large bags you would probably want to take a taxi from the train station to the hotel. If you have a car the hotel has a small car park. In short it's a good location away from the crowds. The hotel itself is lovely, particularly the lobby, gardens and breakfast rooms. The room (we booked a "Superior") was small and a bit shop-worn in spots. I would say the public spaces are nicer than the rooms. But still it is a good choice for a Rome visit.
