Rome is almost unique in having not changed much over some 2800 years! Mainly it is a crowded and noisy movable feast of history before your very eyes. Lived there for three years, and have visited most years since 1990. Still have not seen it all. But coming to the San Anselmo each evening charges up the batteries, and an excellent breakfast prepares one for another immersion in it all.
Located in a quiet part of Rome, the Aventino, this hotel brings all the charm of a romantic villa to the bustle of Rome. Within easy walking distance to the Circus Maximus and the Palatino. The staff are attentive and helpful. The rooms are beautifully decorated in unique styles. A wonderful introduction to Rome! (Car not recommended, the area is full of tiny one way streets!)
This hotel is gorgeous and located in one of my very favorite areas in Rome. No crowds of tourists here, this hotel is situated in a quiet and lush neighborhood of amazing villas. Within a five to ten minute walk to great Testaccio restaurants, very close to the very lovely Giardino degli Aranci and about a 20 minute walk to Trastevere. The front desk staff were helpful and very friendly. They provide a neighborhood map with a listing of recommended restaurants that are excellent. The hotel offers an excellent breakfast spread, and in early evening, tea time (tea and cookies). Since I was not on business, I cannot speak to business related resources. There is plenty of beautiful and comfortable seating and lounging areas downstairs, both inside and outside on the large patio. I was tempted to just lounge in the garden terrace and not do anything but enjoy the scenery and solitude. My room was beautiful. Large, comfortable bed. Comfortable pillows and bedding, excellent a/c and shutters that kept the room nice and dark at night. No noise from neighbors or outside. An amazing view from my windows and balcony . Antique furniture, gold, and marble throughout bedroom and bath. Bathroom had a large sauna shower and although on the smaller side, had everything I needed including a large makeup magnifying mirror and blow dryer. My sister also had another room at this hotel, it also was very beautiful and comfortable, with gorgeous design elements, molding, and furniture. The hotel feels elegant and upscale, yet is reasonably priced. I will most certainly stay here again on my next trip to Rome !
The hotel is lovely and the staff are friendly and discrete. We had booked a couple of months in advance and had got a really good price - excellent value for money! As the hotel is located a bit further from the historical centre you probably don’t want to come back just to change your dress. But we did manage to do everyting on foot during our 3-day stay, and 20 minutes from the colisseum or Trastevere is actually quite okay... and if you are looking for calm, serenity and a good night’s sleep, this is definitely where you want to stay.
Beautiful hotel. Staff were so helpful and courteous. Upon arrival we were greeted with a cool refreshing drink. We were escorted to our room and helped settle in. Rooms were well furnished and the modern with a vintage feel. The breakfast had a wide selection or fruit cold meats, cheese and pastries. The hot selection was scrambled eggs and parma ham. I was delighted to see that there was an entire gluten free section as part of the breakfast. We had a meal here once. A beautiful sandwich and salad. I cannot commend the staff enough. They were so helpful and friendly and pleasant from start to finish. Always greeted with a smile. My only negative, and it has nothing to do with the hotel, is the distance from the centre of Rome. It's about a 40 min walk. But it didn't dampen it for us. It was a beautiful walk. Thanks so much for giving us a wonderful start to our honeymoon!
This was our second visit to this hotel in three years. We had enjoyed our previous stay so thought we would pay a return visit Sometimes when you go back to a hotel you have enjoyed in the past it disappoints.not so. In this case. The hotel is still up there with the best. We contacted them before we arrived to ask for a softer mattress,we got an immediate reply and on our arrival our request was fulfilled. The staff are welcoming and efficient, particularly the front desk staff(big thanks to Vincenzo(sorry for the spelling) The weather was great during our visit so we enjoyed breakfast in the gardens some mornings. The hotel itself sits near the top of the hill in the Aventine and has some wonderful views, particularly from the orange gardens nearby We cannot recommend this hotel high enough,if you are looking for a class hotel in Rome please give this hotel consideration you will not be disappointed.
The hotel is located in top of hill not suitable if you are using tram or bus cause you need to climb Room is cleaned but tiny difficult to move around the bed 15 min walking to train station Overall not bad hotel
We stayed here as one of three couples in September. The hotel is gorgeous. When admiring the décor there is something to look and admire everywhere. That however is not what makes this a good hotel, it’s the staff, who were polite and helpful in every respect. They were so helpful in getting taxis for us, giving us directions – suggesting stops on the way – and booking restaurants for us. Even housekeeping was polite and friendly. Special mention to Sonny who anticipated our needs and seemed to always be there to give us a smile and fix us a drink at the bar. The hotel is a bit of a walk to some of the sights and we ended up getting a taxi to some of our destinations, but the peacefulness of the hotel after the hustle and bustle of the crowds was lovely. We particularly enjoyed having breakfast outside in the beautiful gardens, and also evening drinks there after dinner. One tip though is to bring mozzie repellent as we got bitten loads in the garden.
I love that this hotel is off the beaten track and in a part of Rome that is quiet, homely and stately. Yet, at the same time, when you love to walk new cities, the San Anselmo gives you so many opportunities to explore. The hotel is quite lovely. Reception is a small desk right as you enter and manned by very friendly staff. You'll notice the impressive stair case and the grandeur is visible. The rooms are lovely and even if you go for the smaller standard rooms, you will adore them. The room is small but Australian standards, but normal by European ones and I loved it. The decor is old-world and warm and each is beautifully appointed. If you pay extra, you get extra space and I had peak into one and it was sensational. The beds are comfortable and large and shutters on the window mean that you'll get a great night sleep. The bathroom has marble and the shower is strong with lovely toiletries. Wifi is free and strong. The breakfast is included in the price and is served downstairs. It's plentiful and delicious and will start your day off perfectly. Rome is always unforgettable and our stay was made all the better by our wonderful stay at the San Anselmo. Bravissimo!
We stayed here as the final stop on our tour of Italy in August/September. I had stayed at the hotel before and was impressed again by the level of service provided by he colleague on the front desk, the tranquility of the garden for cocktails or breakfast, and the very much over-the-top furnishings in the bedrooms! The location is one of my favourites in Rome - perched on the Aventine Hill, enabling you easy access by foot to the ancient sights of Rome. Come here to enjoy great service, in a traditional villa-style hotel, escaping the madness of the centre of the city. There are lots of lovely restaurants just down the hill too, which the staff will be more than happy to recommend to you on arrival.
