I love that this hotel is off the beaten track and in a part of Rome that is quiet, homely and stately. Yet, at the same time, when you love to walk new cities, the San Anselmo gives you so many opportunities to explore. The hotel is quite lovely. Reception is a small desk right as you enter and manned by very friendly staff. You'll notice the impressive stair case and the grandeur is visible. The rooms are lovely and even if you go for the smaller standard rooms, you will adore them. The room is small but Australian standards, but normal by European ones and I loved it. The decor is old-world and warm and each is beautifully appointed. If you pay extra, you get extra space and I had peak into one and it was sensational. The beds are comfortable and large and shutters on the window mean that you'll get a great night sleep. The bathroom has marble and the shower is strong with lovely toiletries. Wifi is free and strong. The breakfast is included in the price and is served downstairs. It's plentiful and delicious and will start your day off perfectly. Rome is always unforgettable and our stay was made all the better by our wonderful stay at the San Anselmo. Bravissimo!
We stayed here as the final stop on our tour of Italy in August/September. I had stayed at the hotel before and was impressed again by the level of service provided by he colleague on the front desk, the tranquility of the garden for cocktails or breakfast, and the very much over-the-top furnishings in the bedrooms! The location is one of my favourites in Rome - perched on the Aventine Hill, enabling you easy access by foot to the ancient sights of Rome. Come here to enjoy great service, in a traditional villa-style hotel, escaping the madness of the centre of the city. There are lots of lovely restaurants just down the hill too, which the staff will be more than happy to recommend to you on arrival.
This was our second visit to this s fantastic hotel and it remains one of our favourites. Right from the easy booking process to the check in and the style of the great unique rooms this is just a enjoyable hotel to visit. Located in a quiet spot of Rome but within easy walking distance of many of the main attractions. For us it's the hotel surroundings, peacefull garden and attentive staff that really propels the Hotel San Anselmo into our favourites list. So do yourself a favour and if your visiting Rome check in here you will thank yourself you did. We will be back...
If you want to avoid the business of the city centre and enjoy a walk then this is an excellent option; a beautiful boutique style hotel. We opted for a super-delux room and we had a huge balcony with lovely views. The room was nicely decorated and we had a jacuzzi in the bathroom. Hotel staff are very friendly and incredibly helpful, nothing is too much trouble. Consierge speak excellent English and can give advice on all sorts of things. Breakfast also good. Hotel is right around the corner from the Aventine Keyhole and in easy walking distance of most things. We walked everywhere from this point, although most things are 20 + minutes away, to be aware of if long walks are not your thing. The only other comments I would make is that the hotel website gives the impression that this is a much bigger hotel with bigger grounds than it actually is, although it's still an absolute gem, and the mattresses in our room were incredibly hard. My husband liked this but I found it uncomfortable. I wasn't really sure what could be done about that and my husband was happy so I didn't comment at the time. I would definitely stay here again though.
What a lovely find. Tucked away from the busy roads and the bustle of Rome. Quiet and peaceful hotel with lovely staff and beautiful rooms. We arrived at the main rail Terminal and was able to get the hop on hop off bus to Circus Maximus which is just a short walk to the hotel. The bus conductor was very helpful and gave us directions. The breakfast is really lovely. They even have a comb of honey for you to help yourself to. They had a basket of gluten free items for those who need then. The gentleman on reception gave us a map with restaurants he recommended highlighted with the approximate costs or our evening meals. A really lovely quiet hotel in the middle of summer madness.
A great location just on the outskirts that gives you a nice respite from the centre. Nice room, but dark but has a good atmosphere. Breakfast outside was beautiful and the welcome drinks were much appreciated.
One of the best hotels In Rome. Location is a little walk of the most central locations but it's still a good location. Rooms are really nice, big beds, big bathrooms, n the breakfast has a great n nice variety including fresh orange Juice picked from the trees in the garden. Pricy but the their quality can justify it in my wiew
I have travelled to Rome several times over the last 20 years but it was my husband's first visit. I remembered the rose gardens and the peaceful quiet of the Aventine. Based on our abbreviated itinerary and our need for quiet accommodations, I thought San Anselmo would be a good fit. After I booked, a friend sent me an article on Rome from a London newspaper that recommended San Anselmo. Confirmed all of my instincts! Arrival was easy from the airport. We used a private car service without a reservation. Having prepaid on booking.com, check in was easy. Reception, lounge area and the dining rooms are very chic with sort of a Baroque, gold paint, chandelier feel. We asked for a room on a higher floor. I believe we stayed in the Juliet room. Romantic decor and high ceilings, along with a balcony that overlooks the unremarkable square in front of the hotel. Plenty of storage and I liked the shelf behind the bed. Quirks to know about: (1) rooms are small and though the high ceiling helped, bed takes up most of the room; (2) bathroom was sufficient though the shower is a little strange and we had difficulty getting the shower water hot (sink water would get hot so --inexplicable): (3) the hotel breakfast buffet is great but I wouldn't necessarily use their recommendations for other meals. We did our own research. Overall I thought San Anselmo was a good value for the money. Attractive furnishings and very quiet. We were so tired each night and with the use of the curtains/shutters, we slept like the dead. Hotel staff were helpful with questions and ordered two taxis for us. The hotel is an easy 15 min walk down the hill to edge of Circus Maximus and after that, the Theatre of Marcellus and forum. Just make sure you know which street to take back up the hill or you could get really lost and end up stuck on the wrong side of a wall. I'd forgotten about all of Rome's seemingly impenetrable walls.
This was such a lovely hotel on the Aventine Hill in a elegant and quiet residential neighborhood. This area overlooks the city but it is next to a main transport area leading to many of the tourist attractions in Rome. The breakfast is so fresh: home made cakes, fruit, yogurt, cheeses, breads, etc. The rooms are a very good size with balconies or large shuttered windows you swing out in the morning. Also there are great views from the nearby Garden of the Oranges.
From the moment you step inside the Hotel San Anselmo you're taken to a true Italian experience - in a villa that would almost imagine would be in Tuscany is in fact in the very heart of Roma. This stunning villa is in a beautiful and quiet neighbourhood with restaurants and shops only a short walk away. The rooms are spacious - luxurious and decadent - I truly loved staying in this stunning villa - and the garden has orange trees and a garden fit for a queen! I can't wait to return to this secret gem!
