One of the best hotels In Rome. Location is a little walk of the most central locations but it's still a good location. Rooms are really nice, big beds, big bathrooms, n the breakfast has a great n nice variety including fresh orange Juice picked from the trees in the garden. Pricy but the their quality can justify it in my wiew
I have travelled to Rome several times over the last 20 years but it was my husband's first visit. I remembered the rose gardens and the peaceful quiet of the Aventine. Based on our abbreviated itinerary and our need for quiet accommodations, I thought San Anselmo would be a good fit. After I booked, a friend sent me an article on Rome from a London newspaper that recommended San Anselmo. Confirmed all of my instincts! Arrival was easy from the airport. We used a private car service without a reservation. Having prepaid on booking.com, check in was easy. Reception, lounge area and the dining rooms are very chic with sort of a Baroque, gold paint, chandelier feel. We asked for a room on a higher floor. I believe we stayed in the Juliet room. Romantic decor and high ceilings, along with a balcony that overlooks the unremarkable square in front of the hotel. Plenty of storage and I liked the shelf behind the bed. Quirks to know about: (1) rooms are small and though the high ceiling helped, bed takes up most of the room; (2) bathroom was sufficient though the shower is a little strange and we had difficulty getting the shower water hot (sink water would get hot so --inexplicable): (3) the hotel breakfast buffet is great but I wouldn't necessarily use their recommendations for other meals. We did our own research. Overall I thought San Anselmo was a good value for the money. Attractive furnishings and very quiet. We were so tired each night and with the use of the curtains/shutters, we slept like the dead. Hotel staff were helpful with questions and ordered two taxis for us. The hotel is an easy 15 min walk down the hill to edge of Circus Maximus and after that, the Theatre of Marcellus and forum. Just make sure you know which street to take back up the hill or you could get really lost and end up stuck on the wrong side of a wall. I'd forgotten about all of Rome's seemingly impenetrable walls.
This was such a lovely hotel on the Aventine Hill in a elegant and quiet residential neighborhood. This area overlooks the city but it is next to a main transport area leading to many of the tourist attractions in Rome. The breakfast is so fresh: home made cakes, fruit, yogurt, cheeses, breads, etc. The rooms are a very good size with balconies or large shuttered windows you swing out in the morning. Also there are great views from the nearby Garden of the Oranges.
From the moment you step inside the Hotel San Anselmo you're taken to a true Italian experience - in a villa that would almost imagine would be in Tuscany is in fact in the very heart of Roma. This stunning villa is in a beautiful and quiet neighbourhood with restaurants and shops only a short walk away. The rooms are spacious - luxurious and decadent - I truly loved staying in this stunning villa - and the garden has orange trees and a garden fit for a queen! I can't wait to return to this secret gem!
Having spent ages researching hotels in central Rome for a 3 day stay, and finding apparent snags with all of them, I decided to accept the recommendation in the Sunday Times Travel section of the San Anselmo. I recognised that it is not central, being located on the Aventine Hill, a mile or so south of the "Wedding Cake". We were able to enjoy a slow walk all the way to St Peter's Square, mainly along the north-west bank of the Tiber, passing many lovely sights, and with views back to the Aventine, taking about an hour and a half including numerous short stops. The San Anselmo is a large old villa set in a quiet square near the top of the hill, near the famous "keyhole" view of St Peters, and with monasteries and gardens with views over the city - a delightful setting. Being converted to hotel use, it is somewhat quirky with lots of steps and cute corners, eccentric furnishings and decor, but with all mod cons. There is a charming garden patio where breakfast was taken - but beware of ripe oranges dropping from the trees! The staff were very helpful with local information and recommendations. Not cheap at about £220 a night, but It's full of character and a pleasant change from large, more conventional hotels.
We only stayed here for our last night in Italy before flying out but we were very happy with our choice. The Hotel itself has a beautiful foyer and very friendly staff who were more than happy to help. We stayed in the 'Mirror Room' which was a great size and very comfortable. The only con to the room was the 'Jacuzzi' Shower. If you're going to have this in the shower please make sure it works well or don't have it at all. The only thing it achieved was to take up room in an already small shower cubicle. The Shower would be better off without it. Overall, our one night stay was very pleasant and breakfast in the beautiful garden was peaceful and relaxing. Highly Recommend if you're not looking for somewhere central.
I spent 5 nights at San Anselmo while on business travel in Rome. Absolutely LOVED this hotel. The rooms are spacious and well renovated. I loved the decor and appreciated the breakfast in the garden. While the hotel is a bit out of the centre, it felt great to get away from the hussle and bussle of Rome. The area is quiet and absolutely lovely! This is the place to be!
We stayed at this amazingly beautiful and comfortable hotel for 5 nights and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. The breakfast was delicious and a highlight to start our day. The location was easily accessible to the transit, Colosseum and other sites. The hotel provided nice sitting areas to relax in the evening with a bottle of wine or a drink made to order. Lastly all staff was attentive and helpful in providing recommendations for food, travel and other ancillary needs. Couldn't have asked for a better experience and will definitely stay there when we return to Rome.
Wow, what a nice hotel to go. We where on room 834 mille y una note, the best room I've ever been in. A jaccuzi shower , bed with posts, big bath and a balcony. The persons who works there are very nice. The breakfast is good and we can eat inside or outside. It is luxurious clean and perfect. We were there for our honeymoon and we cannot have asked for a better place.
We just stayed at this lovely hotel for five nights last week & it truly made our stay in Roma fantastic. Our room was just perfect & very comfortable and the staff did everything and more to make our stay in Roma even more enjoyable. Sonny was so nice and very attentive, he met us at the door every day to see if there was anything we needed, which was just amazing. The hotel is very centrally located so we were able to walk to the Coliseum as well as several other tourist attractions. We loved it and would most definitely recommend this hotel to everyone visiting Roma.
