Pros Beautiful, cosy, great staff, great breakfast, great room, quiet location. Cons A bit of a walk to central Rome but that's it. After spending 5 nights in central Rome, we tried this hotel which was so quiet and peaceful in comparison. It's simply beautiful, spotlessly clean and staff were fantastic.
The hotel was great and very luxurious, in a beautiful area. All the staff was really helpful and kind (especially the lovely receptionist in the morning). The breakfast was really good and our room(standard) in a really good condition with a great decoration and clean every day. *Jaccuzi was the greatest part. Totally recommending it.
We have been regular visitors to the Hotel San Anselmo since we spent our Honeymoon there 9 years ago and I have to say this year has not disappointed. The hotel is as fabulous as ever. A real sense of calm and luxury. Wonderful staff. We spotted a new addition on our visit this time - the hotel provides self-service tea, cake and biscuits in the afternoon. Just what you need after a busy day sight seeing and shopping! We highly recommend this hotel.
I've been staying in this hotel since 1969 and it remains wonderful. Very classy. Real Roman ambiance. Located in a residential area on one of the seven hills. Easy to get to by subway or taxi. The US Embassy and the Food and Agricultural Organization of the UN often book these rooms for dignitaries. Don't miss it!
The five star rating for me indicates top ranking for a hotel of moderate cost of its type - it’s not a valid comparison with the luxury Brands with standardized rooms, etc, We consider this hotel a find. It is in the Aventino, a bit away from the main sites, not too distant, in a largely residential area. Cabs are readily available and can be summoned by the desk. A bit of a walk will take you to a major Boulevard with tram service etc. it’s possible to walk to the Circus Maximus or the Colosseum I. Under a half an order. But the hotel? Ah, each rom is given a name and style. There is a library room with a book theme, a gold room to reflect it’s color and paint. The room differences reflect the original purpose, but it really has no bad rooms Some have terraces, others no. We have used multiple rooms, our favorite has a terrace. But we enjoy the hotels lounge areas on the ground floor as well as the number of outdoor spaces. There is bar service. A good breakfast is provided from a buffet of eggs, bacon, fruits, cold Cuts, cheese - coffee is served to the table on request. By our second visit, the staff recognized us in continental manner from the desk to the bar to breakfast. Some White cabs (the cab’s color indicates it is regulated with a taxi meter) may need the street address, but that’s easy. We haven’t used Uber or Lyftt in Rome, but don’t take any of the unregulated Cabs which lurk in some areas.
We loved our stay in the hotel and would score it higher if I could! Staff were so friendly and helpful. We received a glass of fruit juice while checking in and were assisted with our bags. Our Room was on the second floor and had a lovely little balcony that was an unexpected touch. Hotel is beautifully decorated and the breakfasts were fanatastic. Lots of choice and who can resist chocolate cake and delicious coffee for breakfast!! 10 min walk to nearest metro station and just a little bit further to the forum and Colosseum. If we ever go back to room we will be staying again!
Wow I just read some of the “poor” reviews and I simply cannot believe we are talking about the same hotel. My mother and I love this hotel with a capital L. It is artistic. The staff are so kind and helpful. The head waiter remembered me and my mother from a visit 2 years previously. I know he wasn’t faking it as I didn’t tell him I had visited before with my mother- he volunteered that! The concierge went out of his way, far more than he needed to, to help me with my holiday. Nothing was too much trouble for him. The first time i came with Mum our luggage arrived 2 days later- he helped us with all that hassle. Agree the standard rooms are too small for my taste so on my subsequent visit I upgraded. The garden is so charming. You will love breakfast in the garden or a drink there late afternoon in summer. I do recall booking staff being a bit frustrated with me but go with the flow- they are Italians. Love you guys and will be back. Viva la bella vita!😀⭐️
Near the center of Rome, walking distance to the Colosseum and the Roman Forum. But in a quiet neighborhood, kind of a rarity in Rome. There are lots of restaurants in the nearby Testaccio area, and some good bars on the other side of the hill. The hotel is very comfortable with nice comfortable beds and refreshing hot showers. TV, mini bar, in room. Breakfast is nice, with lots of sweets and good coffee, as well as cheeses meats and eggs. The can from the train station was ten euro for three people. The closest metro station is Circus Maximus. It’s uphill from there. They have a small bar that up charges a bit, but there is a nice outdoor seating area.
Very opulent looking rooms with plenty of gilding everywhere. My room on the third floor has a patio of similar size to the room itself. Bathroom has a power shower which took some investigating to figure out how to work. Staff were very friendly. Limited menu offered in the hotel (sandwiches / toasties) or you could walk down the hill and in 5 minuets had a good choice of very reasonably priced options I was on business so cannot comment about location compared to the attractions. It is however within a 10/15 min walk of the UN's FAO. I found the wi-fi good - fast and reliable Breakfast was a good range of continental with the addition of two hot items - scrambled egg and sausage
Rome is almost unique in having not changed much over some 2800 years! Mainly it is a crowded and noisy movable feast of history before your very eyes. Lived there for three years, and have visited most years since 1990. Still have not seen it all. But coming to the San Anselmo each evening charges up the batteries, and an excellent breakfast prepares one for another immersion in it all.
