I wish I'd read the reviews before booking. The negative reviews are not unfounded. Our experience: No one at reception and no support Breakfast poor and starts very late which meant in 4 days we only managed to have breakfast once Terrace has a public bar and we had a party one night and got no sleep until 4am! No hot water for 1 shower Soap no restocked Mosquito ridden and we got bitten really badly. Pity because the location was really good.
In a night club, paper thin walls, no reception, no hot water and unbearable. I am an easy going traveller and when I read the reviews I thoughts it was a joke. No. This is the worst place I have ever stayed in my my life. You may as we'll hire a locker in the train station. This is a hotel on the outskirts of nowhere who hire the breakfast room out to local events companies / students. OMG!!! This place would be banned from being sheltered accommodation in the UK! Save your money and buy a 6 man tent and sleep behind a wheelie bin
When we arrived there was a private party on the terrace. The girl at the front door could not bother to support us or to give us any information. Eventually I realized there was an envelope with instruction sticked at the front door, just in front the nice girl. I was lucky coz I could speak the language, I am pretty sure a non-Italian speaker would not be so lucky. We went for dinner and we went to sleep. We did not rest because of the street noise and the chatty chat of what I presume they were the event organizers. One of them locked his scooter to our window and at 4 o'clock in the morning, the clanking Very basic breakfast (packed croissants, cereal and toast. No warm food). 눇the location was ok, the lady that served us breakfast was very friendly and so the guy at the reception. the room was cleaned and beds very comfy.
Ok, so before I stayed here I was a little worried about the reviews, but I have to say most of them are completely unfounded and very unfair!! It is definitely more like a B&B - I think there are only something like 6 rooms, but it is lovely. It is decorated really nicely, the rooms are big with nice furnishings (the bed was huge!) and all the amenities you could want, including a TV, tea and coffee making facilities, a minibar and a hairdryer (which was great for me!) The free wifi is amazing and worked in our room too. The staff were really helpful and friendly, answering our questions about directions and taxis etc. and they even printed out our boarding passes for us before we left to come home. Breakfast was fantastic, it was served on the terrace upstairs (which was covered so no rain and was warm!) and had EVERYTHING you could think of to eat and drink. They really made an effort and we felt bad when we couldn't make it one morning because of our plans. Have to admit, because we went in February the upstairs bar was closed and so I can't comment on whether it would be noisy or not! Yes, there is a lack of hot water, but we found out if you played around with the taps for a little bit then it helped. I don't think this is a problem with the hotel though, talking to people it seems more a problem with the whole of Rome/Italy!! So if you want hot water, then go to a different city/country! The area around the hotel is fantastic with lots of restaurants and little bars, you'll be spoilt for choice. We are planning another trip next year and wouldn't hesitate to stay again!
Upon my arrival I was delighted as my taxi pulled up to the front of the boutique hotel that was perfectly situated between the center of Trastevere and The American Academy of Rome where my step daughter received a fellowship. This area and hotel is not handicapped approved and not for the elderly- much of Trastevere is the same so don't come on crutches or with a sprained ankle!! The receptionist (open only from 10-6) is a very lovely woman named Nadia. She kindly showed me outside the hotel and around back to my "apartment" room rented for 4 nights for 385 euros! Too much surprise, it was like entering a Swiss Chalet!! Wood paneled walls, skis and Elks antlers for decoration. It was warm and inviting. A flat screen TV that I have not turned in and a wonderful king bed- firm which is my preference. Swinging saloon style wood doors to a separate full American style bathroom and on the other side a "kitchen" though the hot pot's interior plastic is coming off so make sure you don't use it for coffee. A hot shower was what I was hoping for, but then again it's Italy- no hot water- this is day 2 and reception is not open- lol. There is an emergency number to call, as there is no phone in the room- so make sure you have a cell with international access on your phone. Free wifi is great and almost unheard of, but accessible only sitting in the lobby hall. There is no wifi in the room so pre download anything you need. Breakfast begins at 8:30- not before. It's Italy, not USA, so prepare to just adjust and let things happen. If you are ok without water pressure and cold water- it's a perfect place for less than a week.
No hot water. You have to Take your breakfast outside éven in winter. Breakfast is not good.. Staff is not cool and professionnal...No smiles. Lot of noise ... No bar on the rooftop... You have to walk 20 minutes if u want to sleep in thé litt le hôtel. .. Don t go...
Don't go there!! Although the rooms are nice and the personal is real friendly there's a big inconvenience: There is a sushibar disco on the roof of the hotel. The disco plays very loud dancemusic until 2 am. The rooms are very thinwalled so you can literally hear the music. Than at closing time there is a lot of noise of the people strolling out of the bar. When I complained at the personal (which was in fact very kind)they said they get complains bij all visitors but that the owner of the hotel wouldn't change the concept. I normally don't complain easily but this was outragious. A hotel is in first a place for resting and sleeping which is impossible in Locanda San Pancrazio. The bathroom wasn't as tidy as can be expected (hairs in the sink).
The room was nice, the location great... However, unless you sleep like the dead or party into the early hours you also might not appreciate the night club upstairs that bangs out thumping music for dancing elephants until at least 1:30am. Staff friendly. Breakfast was average. The shower is not great but the bed was comfortable. Loved the area - lots of great little eateries and walking distance to much of the tourist attractions for the fit and able. If it weren't for the nightly party upstairs I'd stay again but I do like my sleep so I'd look elsewhere!
We found this hotel to be a little gem. Our room was quite large, with a foyer (with a mini fridge/bar and coffee/tea maker), a good-sized bedroom and lovely bathroom. The decor is very nice, the closets large and the AC and wifi reliable. The location is superb. The centre of Trastevere is a 5 minute walk. The top of Gianicolo, with its magnificent view of Rome, is 5 minutes away too - mind you, it's all up hill. The Vatican is about 1/2 hour and the Number 8 or H bus (about a 10 minute walk) will get you anywhere else. Yes, there may be an issue with the rooftop bar. A bit more attention to acoustical issues would have been nice and I think the owners should include this information in the property description. However, we like to go out a little later in the day and come back late. This worked well for us as the thumping bass was over around 1:00 - 1:30. If you close both your shutters and your windows it's not too bad. We arrived via train at Termini and our taxi driver had a VERY difficult time finding the hotel as there are three streets in the neighbourhood with the same name. We would suggest taking a taxi to Trastevere and then getting another, local cab. When leaving by air, we are taking a cab to Trastevere train station and taking the train to the airport. The trains leave around every 1/2 hour and cost around 16 Euros for 2 people as opposed to about 50 Euros for a cab. We would definitely stay here again and we are a mature couple.
I think the major benefit in this hotel is the bar at the top , very nice one, plenty of local people - we had fun :) no need to look for a place to drink , it's just upstairs. Location is great, rooms are quite big and have a view to the neighbourhood. If you are young couple or coming for business i think this is the place for you. the price compare to other places is very reasonable. There is no reception just a table outside the room but it wasn't a problem for us. For family who like the quite nights - might not recommended , but for people who come to have fun in Rome - highly recommended! I have been in quite expensive hotels in Rome but this one is the most interesting.
