Hotel La Lumiere di Piazza di Spagna3.0 out of 5.0

We stayed here on 23 August 2017, for three nights as part of our Italian travels. We booked it due to the location and price, based on typical Rome prices. The hotel was compact in the shopping district, just down from the Spanish steps. Staff was friendly and there were no concerns over cleanliness. We had balcony doors with a tiny balcony and one chair. Bed was ok, conditioning was noisy. The shower was awful. Quaint lift is hidden behind a door which is required for high floors. Breakfast was ok but not great. There is no bar but one of the appeal for booking this hotel was the small roof terrace which we looked forward to sitting on watching sun set with a bottle of wine.It is however closed in the afternoon and evening. Staff opened it when we asked but it was if we were being a bother and they asked us to be discreet so that other guests don't want to do the same. This terrace looked over the roof tops and was the best feature of this basic hotel. So it is disappointing that staff discouraged guests using it. It would be better if they just took photos of it on their website down. We would not be keen to return and instead wished we chose a less expensive location for a better hotel as we walked lots anyway.
We found La Lumiere by chance when we were booking our flights. The location is perfect, right on the Via Condoti most of the main sights are within easy reach both by foot or metro ( the nearest stop is only five minutes away ). The rooms are very nice, well equipped and very clean. The bathroom was small but perfectly formed and again well equipped. Breakfast is served in a glass room on the top floor of the hotel with great views of the surrounding rooftops and the Spanish Steps. I think it is fair to say that the breakfast will not excite you although there should be something for everyone. The staff are all very helpful and cheerful. Frankly I don't think that you could do any better if you are looking for a well located, clean and comfortable little hotel to relax in during your trip to Rome, a smashing place.
The hotel has the perfect location situated at the piazza di spagna between luxury boutiques it offers the ideal city center stay. The room was spacious and have a clean and big enough bathroom. Although it is at the heart of the city, it remains calm The staff is very helpful and kind. Very satisfied with the hotel - the breakfast is not the best thing to mention
I stayed here with my husband for two nights after arriving from Australia. The hotel was elegantly furnished with traditional Italian furniture, the room was spacious and the bathroom was clean albeit small. The front desk was always staffed with friendly and very helpful attendants who went above and beyond to ensure we had local recommendations and had all we needed. Breakfast was set in the most beautiful room on the top floor overlooking the rooftops of Rome with sun streaming in. The food was basic, but nice quality and more than sufficient. The location was superb, we even had a view of the Spanish steps from our bedroom! Overall we were very happy with the whole experience and would definitely stay again! Highly recommend.
I've stayed at this hotel a number of times and will very likely stay again in the future. This is a charming hotel located on a small street right at via Condotti, and just a few blocks from the Spanish Steps. The rooms are clean and have super high ceilings with ornate moldings. Most rooms have views of via Condotti and the Spanish Steps. There's a nice breakfast served on the top floor and a secret little terrace on the top floor which is open during breakfast hours. If you love to shop in Rome, then this is a great location for you. All the little streets between via Condotti and the Piazza del Popolo are packed with great little shops. The Borghese Gardens, via Veneto area and Trevi fountain are all close by. Great little hotel.
We took a chance on this listing and were not disappointed. Well appointed comfortable rooms of typical European size. The location here was the overwhelming win for us, we like to explore cities on foot and the central location here was perfect for us to see all the attractions on our wish list. 'Old' Rome proved nicely compact (when compared to other Euro capitals visited) and a comfortable central base like La Lumiere proved perfect for our needs. Plenty of places to eat and even a small co-op supermarket within a block of the hotel were a bonus. The breakfast bar was comfortable and met all our needs. Staff at the hotel were very helpful on all aspects of our stay - recommended for independent travellers.
Great Location, few steps away from Piazza di Spagna (we could see the Spanish steps from our window) close to all the best shops. The rooms are a bit outdated , breakfast could definitely be improved but if you need a very central hotel , this is one of the best spots! Colosseum, Roman forum, piazza navona and the Trevi's fountian are literally 5-10 minutes walk from la lumiere.
We throughly enjoyed our 4 night stay at La Lumiere. We stayed on recommendation form friends and it was perfect for us (travelling as a couple). The location is unbeatable, very close to Spanish Steps but not too touristy. Also very handy for walking to Vatican, St Peters and Castel Sant Angelo on the other side of the river. Staff are very friendly and helpful.
Unlike some of the other reviews, did not find anything special with this hotel. Pros: Location (next to Spanish steps) and 5 minutes from the river. Pantheon and Piazza Navona are 10 minutes. Near to metro (we didn't use) - we walked everywhere incl. Vatican city. Good service Room fine Cons: A/C not powerful enough Not much natural light coming into the room Breakfast not too impressive Tiniest of shower rooms
We spent a weekend at la Lumiere in July and we loved it. It was recommended to me by a friend and from the first enquiring email to the check our everything was smooth and very pleasant and efficient. Paola is a great person and did a fantastic job with helping me organizing everything and she was so warm and welcoming when we finally met, thank you Paola!! Our room was very nice and very clean. Despite the heat wave the room temperature was pleasant and the aircon very quiet. Breakfast was good. We will come back! And I recommend this small hotel to anyone who wants a friendly boutique hotel with a very reasonable price for Rome.
