My partner and I stayed our last 3 day of our amazing month long vacation of Italy at their location, mainly because we wanted to experience Trestavere. We were happy to be back in Rome, but staying at a place not typical of our travels. We tend to book much nicer rooms. The room was not clean to our standards, with the upholstered furniture being less than standard and the bathroom, doors and walls were dirty. The shower spilled water all over the floor. I was willing to overlook the cleanliness, so I just wiped down the doors and recleaned the bathroom after George, their man on site, cleaned it. HOWEVER, my girlfriend started itching the first night. By the end of our trip, we both had bedbug bites everywhere. Our flight back was miserable. We contacted the owner who decided to mansplain that we probably got mosquito bites. Uh, NO. Definitely bedbugs. He was rude, offered no help, and claimed we we lying. The owner and his wife seemed nice, but beware. They brag about the home their building in Greece, but do little to maintain their facilities in Rome. Bottom line, this old, dirty place filled with upholstered furniture filled with bedbugs is not a good place to stay. Rough around the edges? YES. Spend your money elsewhere. BEDBUGS BEWARE!! You have been warned. This review is written by a well traveled American with high standards and many international trips under my belt.
We especially enjoyed spending the late afternoons on the balcony - its serene and lovely views of neighboring tile roofs, gardens and sky. Bedroom had a wall of windows; so, lots of light and fresh air. Location was perfect. Our daily excursions radiated in all directions from the B&B. At breakfast met interesting friendly travelers from Denmark, UK, Germany, California...Hosts, Marco and Gianna, were very helpful suggesting interesting routes for our walks, arranging transportation, recommending special shops... We enjoyed their company and hospitality. George was extremely attentive and caring. We had an excellent stay and recommend
The guest house is in the Trastevere district, a wonderful base to explore Rome, or even just stay in the area. Marco and Gianna are attentive and knowledgeable innkeepers. It was our first time in Rome . . . it was nice to have their support. The guest house is a couple of blocks off the Via Della Lungaretta, a exciting place to be at night. Though across the Tiber from Metro Rome, Arco dei Tolomei is close yet residential. We walked to all the major places to visit in Rome. Highly recommend.
Excellent location, most helpful Owner and umpteen good eating places just around the corner. First trip to Rome, but with Marco's good advice, it was all so easy and very enjoyable. Breakfast with other guests in the family dinning room, and Marco on hand to help plan the day. We had recommendatiions for the evening, and reservations made. Tour company sugested for sightseeing, and charming bedroom. All in all, just what we had hoped to find.
Marco is a very gracious host, sharing ways to enjoy Rome that are less touristy, and ways to enjoy the big sights too. He sent some recommendations ahead of time as well. Much is within a 30 min. walk of this guesthouse. He shared tips for local eateries. The guesthouse is comfortable with a little outdoor deck off the room and quiet. He even helped us find the tourist medical clinic when the need arose.
We just returned from a second stay at Arco Dei Tolomei. We chose to stay there again while in Rome because of the location, and the comfortable atmosphere in Marco's home. It is enjoyable to have breakfast with Marco and other guests, converse about Rome, and at the same time, it is very private during the day and evening. The location grants a more authentic Roman feel, while major sites are still easily accessible, especially if you enjoy walking in Rome. Marco is a great resource for your time in Rome. Highly recommended!
Our friends recommended Arco dei Tolomei and so we followed suit. We stayed for our first 3 nights in Rome and then for 2 more nights on our return. We enjoyed the neighborhood and we enjoyed the hospitality. Trastevere has great restaurants and a suitable amount of funk. Marco offered recommendations that we never would have otherwise visited. Lots of hospitality here.
We spent 5 nights last May 2019 at this lovely place. We had a room with street view that we would love to look outside and we were able to sleep with the windows open! This place is close to wonderful walks and received so much information from Marco and Gianna on where to eat, where to go, wonderful walks where no crowds would be, special churches etc. cannot wait to return and spend more time in this gorgeous city, and I am sure we will chose to stay here again!
We stayed here in May whilst we visited Rome for the Italian Tennis open. The guest house is tucked away in a quiet courtyard and is up a flight of stairs. It was lovely! Marco was a great host and chatted to us over a good breakfast. There are lots of trattorias around and you are perfectly located for seeing Rome by foot.
Arco dei Tolomei is a cozy, locally owned guest house that we truly enjoyed on our 3 night stay in Rome. Staying in Trastevere is the best location in my opinion and this unique guest house offers just that! The owner is very friendly and took his time to explain to us the area, attractions, gave useful tips for sightseeing itinerary. Our room was just as described on the website - we loved it as it was small and comfortable with a small balcony looking out to the street. Breakfast was spectacular. Overall - stay here, you won't regret your choice!
