We stayed in the family apartment a few streets away. Pros: spacious, beds were comfortable, great location, staff was responsive. Cons: the apartment could do with a lot of updating. The main shower drain was blocked (we did mention this, but it never was fixed) and the shower door was being kept on the rails by tape. Both showers are extremely small, as well there are only shower heads, so if you don't want to wash your hair, it is very hard to maneouver yourself in order to not get your hair wet. The shower heads were also very calcified and my husband had to clean them out in order to get decent water flow. In addition, while it is stipulated there is a fee you pay when you get to the hotel, it is said the hotel takes cards and cash, but the man we met with when we checked in would only take cash - this was very unexpected and ate into the cash we had budgeted for the trip. It was also very difficult to find the place to check in, the instructions were not clear and we could not get in to the building, luckily a random person coming by let us in. Things to be aware of that are not stipulated in the hotel description: there are 55 steps to go up with no elevator. And if you want fresh towels or your room to be cleaned, you have to ask for it, it is not automatic. Lastly, all of the services and amenities that are offered and advertised to hotel guests, are not offered to those that stay in the family apartment.

Staff was very friendly and helpful. Room was immaculate. In a building built in the 1850’s but updated rooms of course. Hotel is on the second floor but has a lift as well as stairs. Several great little restaurants in the area especially Trieste Pizza and Urbana Tavern. Walking distance to some great shopping as well.

Super friendly service. The apartment is spacious, well located, and very well connected by bus and metro. It’s within walking distance of the Colosseum. The beds were clean and comfortable, and the place is nicely decorated in a modern country style. They truly went above and beyond to my surprise, Hotels.com gifted me a bottle of wine, and there was also a PS5, which my kids really enjoyed during our stay. Highly recommended.

It was amazing! The location is prime, I could walk everywhere. Super safe. The room was so clean, so welcoming, and the bed very comfortable. The staff were respectful, attentive and sweet. Loved it. As a solo female traveler I highly recommend this place to others. Grazie!

Our rooms were always spotless. The shower delivered a full stream of hot water. Every morning fresh pastries were placed outside our rooms for breakfast, gluten-free ones for my husband. The housekeeper could not have been sweeter or more accommodating of my husband and me and our two boys. Bonus--We had no idea that the hotel is on a tiny but important thoroughfare: Via Urbana. If you walk down one block, you come to a number of caffes, restaurants, pastry shops and artsy stores. We fell in love with the neighborhood, which is also a five-minute walk to the Colosseum and a quick walk to neighboring Esquilino and the train station. I'd return to the Aenea again!

This was by far the best hotel we stayed at on our honeymoon trip to Italy! The staff were beyond kind and friendly, the building was old but quaint, everything was clean, and they bring you pastries for breakfast every morning! It’s a little hard to find just because you do need a physical key, not a card, to get into the building, but after checking in we had a wonderful stay in a wonderful city!
