This is one of my favorite resorts on the Mayan Peninsula....yet beware of the sham. I have seen it before. Filling up a hotel is a matter of simple math. You have so many rooms....so you stop taking reservations when you meet that threshold....right....wrong! The hotel was asking us to split up our party of eight and go to another of their resorts because they had overbooked. Like many of you....I made a reservation to go to this hotel....not another one. We were told that they had to send 16 couples to the other hotel the day we arrived and 32 the next day. This is not an accident...it is intentional. They want your money....regardless of what you want. Needless to say....we wouldn't be moved and they accommodated us, yet they were many they couldn't accommodate and sent them to the other resort. Shameful in my opinion.

Room was clean and comfortable. The food in all areas was excellent. Beach was small but well kept. Staff was very polite and helpful.

The only good thing about this resort is the Xcaret park. If you get a room with unlimited excess to the park then you'll have lots of fun activities. In the resort itself there are not much things to do. The pools are nice but the beach is very small. It's impossible to get a beach chair if you come later then 8 am to the beach or the pool. The food is ok but not great. The room that I stayed in was nice and clean.

The staff are not very friendly, room wasn't bad but failed to restock hygiene items. One day we didn't receive any towels and had to call the front desk. The complex was large and not very user friendly. Says 5 pools but if your not a preferred member or rooms you are unable to use all the pools. The food wasn't bad at the sit down restaurants. The buffet got old quick, had mostly the same items. I wouldn't stay here again but for the price it wasn't bad. I have stayed at other resorts that were better but you get what you pay for.

We stayed for 1 week in March 2017. The resort is huge. We did a lot of walking. There are golf carts that take you from the building block to the beach. We stayed in building 12 which is connected to the main lobby. The building hasd an elevator. We were close to the restaurants which was great. We were very fortunate to have been able to use the First Club area & ammenities. Someone traveling with us parents are owners @ the resort. This allowed us the private pool, private golf cart transfer, clubhouse, private waterfront view with bar & the ability to make dinner reservations. The pools were fantastic. The beach was awful. The water was very dirty, smelled of sewer gas & had a lot of algea growing. Also, it is very small. The pictures are quite deceiving. Do not come here if you enjoy the beach. You will not be happy. The food was above average & plentiful. There is a beach cafe that has a decent breakfast but if you want a large selection, go to the main buffet. You will not be dissappointed. We ate at all of the restaurants. There is a nice variety. One thing I noticed id the house wine (no upcharge) is awful. If you are a wine drinker, the cheapest bottle is $28. They seem to have an issue with beach/pool towels. One day we got a towel at 3:30pm. Staff had no explanation. They said check back in 20 minutes. Unfortunately, it was never 20 minutes, it was hours of waiting

I met nice people working on the hotel like Fernando Omar and Yvonne

Beach towels hard to come by, terrible food, too much walking within the grounds, man made crowded sand box, hotel is in the middle of no where with absolutely nothing to do, had to do excursions and rent a car just to get out of there, would never stay there again, had no hot water one day, leak in bathroom another, just a bad experience!

The food was good. The restaurants were just ok. The buffet was very good we thought. The setting of the resort with the variety of animals was very neat and a great experience. My only problem with the place was there was no nice beach to walk on by the ocean, just that little lagoon one that was always crowded. The pools were nice. Only other problem I would say that we had was the bar runs out of stuff and they don't get it re-stocked at the swim up bar. But really, great staff, beautiful resort and great experience.

It was a great deal. The food was as good as if not better than other resorts we've stayed at (loved the Italian place). It was smaller than some but had everything we needed and was still plenty large. The staff we encountered was friendly and attentive. They did have a time share within the facilities and if you are not interested in that aspect, stay away from the invitations to learn more about that. If you are interested in going to Xcarat, you can walk to it from the resort. OR they have a charming little boat that can take you to the entrance on the 'river' that runs through the resort. We didn't take advantage of the entertainment, but there was a show every night and from what I did see and hear, was well done. The only thing we were disappointed in was the limited snorkeling from the beach. There were tours you could take, but the sandy lagoon had limited fish & visibility and going into the actual ocean was possible, but the shoreline was quite rocky and couldn't be accessed if waves were high. We had requested to be near friends we were traveling with and originally was not. After some discussion at the desk and some excuses as to why they couldn't, we did get a room next door. Not at all sure why they just didn't do that. One friend had need of medical services and was well tended to. Overall, I would recommend this place. We probably won't go back only because of the lack of snorkeling nearby. Cozumel is better for our needs.

It was a nice Hotel but with no beach view . The food was great . Enough activities for all ages . The beach is small as well . I would like to recommend people to book room with Xcaret access too, this will save you money !! there is wildlife throughout the hotel .

We stayed at the Royal Club and didn't know that's where we were going. Too expensive and very nice. The restaraunt in the Royal Club was much better than the food in some of the other restaraunts in the all-inclusive. The shuttle around the resort was helpful but inconsistent. We loved the pools and the salt water pool especially. Great vacation.

The staff was great. Especially the pool service waiter at the Royal Club. He consistently brought water or drinks all day. The food was really good with many choices. Just a great experience.

I will recommend this hotel, we have a great time there.

Front desk staff Rude, yelled at my wife not willing to help her exchange money. Also no king beds, requested to be moved they said will see and never called us back after 2hrs. Dealt with 5 different people at the front desk some were polite while lying to your face and not doing anything about your concerns. the others flat out rude and not helpful, asked to speak with supervisor who wasnt willing to see me or explain why there were problems. No internet service, no one explained it was limited to a small area in the lobby however password did not work so wasnt helpful. Lastly shuttles did not run @nite after being told them ran until 11pm.

The service here was the best we have had in the islands after 25+ trips. The bartenders are very attentive. They and their managers should be proud of how hard those guys worked so we could enjoy our time by not waiting for service. The beach isn't the best as it's a lagoon, but the pools are great. Beach is great for kids though. The food was very good and the ala carte restaurants were all great and if you get there before 7, no waits! Even the other guests were nice.

Great Hotel in the perfect location with a lot of activities for whole family. The only hard time was to figure out where exactly those activities were.

I naver have that bad experiences this hotel. I nave tell any my friends staying that hotel .no service. .no room clean. And any more but I think they screwed my vacation. .. In the room bug ...and not many employees help full.. Sorry I have to say naver ever staying this resort any where...

Great location (attached to Xcaret, which is absolutely astounding) will keep you and the family busy for a week or more. Food is really lame, especially at the supposedly "higher end dress code" Restraunt's, which having a dress code at an Oceanside water park themed resort blew my mind, when coming back from the day in swim wear and such, had to go back to the room, which can be quite a walk, shower, change to dress clothes and walk all the way back to the Restraunt you passed to go change; to get in? After walking and swimming all day... really a let down. Buffet is ok but gets old quick. This is a timeshare, or as they say "sort of like one, but different", we got pressured... rooms are worn, but nice. We had 3 rooms, some got bath robes, some not, rooms were not prepared the same, things were forgotten. Rooms need repair. Swimming lagoon is small but cool. The 2 pools are huge and very nice. Not much for hype, pretty much on your own and not much going on after hours. We spent most of our time at Xcaret. I personally would rate this resort experience because of the restraunts and disarray a 3 star hotel.

To much pressure from the staff to purchase a timeshare... Overall the majority of the staff was very helpful.

The hotel itself is very dirty it looks like they cant keep up with the maintenance. Sections of the hotel are mold infested and air conditioner in many rooms broken. The food selection is nonexistent. Unless you like seafood, you will not like the food. The burgers and pizzas were terrible. Coffee always cold in the morning, and no food selection at all. Only two restaurant buffets bcuz main restaurant is under construction. There is construction everywhere. There are numerous ruins on the premises which for us made our stay pleasurable, trails and wild animals roaming free are a unique exerience. Swimming at the beach is a must, the fishes swimming freely around you are amazing. We did the unlimited xcaret. At 177USD per person, Which I believe was worth every penny. The park is over 6 miles so we did a section of the park every day. We packed a small back pack with water and snacks for our daughter and even beer for us. We did not pack towels, as I didn't believe they were necessary, it often rains and the towels get soaked and it is hot enough that you dry off just by walking around the park, whenever you get hot, jump in one of the underground rivers and cool off. We rented a car and found this to be the most convenient way of getting around. TULUM is a must, they have the ruins by the beach and the water is amazing. We also drove up to chichen itza and took the local route...we saw a lot of amazing little towns and felt we were emerged in the culture

We would like to thank you for choosing Occidental at Xcaret Destination as your holiday destination during your visit to Riviera Maya. Our guests play a key role in helping us to improve our services and we truly appreciate the feedback. • We would like to clarify that in our web site and brochures we do not sell the hotel as a beach resort. We specify we are focus on the jungle, the Xcaret Park and we that we have a handmade beach. You can also find some pictures. The beach at our hotel, it has been constructed with the purpose of offering our guests a safe environment to swim and enjoy the underwater landscape that is natural to the area. Many families enjoy the beach as it is free from strong currents and large waves. I’m sorry to read that we did not fulfill your expectations. It was a pleasure to host your holiday and hopefully you will provide us an opportunity to host your holiday once again.
