Hotel Playa del Karma3.0 out of 5.0

We stayed at Playa del Karma for our 5 day visit to Playa del Carmen in late March. The hotel itself is small and clean and the staff is friendly. The courtyard is what makes this place! Rooms are situated around an open air court yard filled with tropical plant and trees and a small pool. Each room really has a lot of privacy with its' own little patio area and a hammock outside each room. One night we stayed in and had a few drinks on the patio and it was incredibly peaceful. It is just a few blocks from the beach and the bustling 5th Avenue, which is quite nice when you want some peace and quiet. Accommodations in the room were comfortable: large bed, clean linens, air conditioning and a small tv. I would certainly stay here again!!
Let me start by saying, that the staff and the service was very good, very nice, almost perfect. The rooms are not equally good, and we startet on a very small room, untill our aircondition broke down, and we got a bigger room. Should I make a rating based on the small room, it would be 2* Right next to the hotel is a discoteque, and it plays from around 6pm untill 2-4am. Some nights it was so loud, that we couldnt sleep untill 4 am. So if this is your choice, bring earplugs with you :)
My husband and I stayed here 3 nights in early March. It was a great deal, had everything we needed, was a short walk to the main 5th avenue area and the beach but not too close to the madness (it was spring break after all). We hardly spend any time in hotels when we're on vacation but this place had a nice little pool that we used every evening that made us feel like we were in a tiny jungle right in the middle of playa. There's also an adorable hotel kitty - bonus :) Like everywhere in Mexico, the bathroom is simple and you cannot flush any paper - just pointing this out since I didn't realize it before we travelled there. Actually seemed pretty smart, just different. Only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because the bed was really hard and the wifi didn't work in our room (but it worked fine right outside in the courtyard).
Easy walk to beach & THE people watching mecca of 5th Avenue, Playa del Carmen. Practically no walk to a myriad of variety in eateries of all kinds....we did not have a bad anything, anywhere. We came home to a comfortable bed, air conditioning & a real rain shower shower. For just plain value & comfort this aptly name hotel rates 5 stars with me.
awesome place, a little piece of jungle in the city. david was a great host! great location, yet quiet. rooms are simple but comfortable. would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting playa del carmen!
We stayed for 4 nights when going from Isla Holbox to Tulum. Stayed in the King Karma room which had good A/C and fridge. Chairs outside in the chaired balcony. No breakfast, but several good restaurants nearby so this was no problem.
For the price it's a decent place! I liked the huge open Rooms however the staff has to work on pleasing their customers. Apart from that hotel is really close to the walking plazas beach and the Cozumel ferry ride.
This was the perfect home base for our five night stay in playa del Carmen. Hotel was quiet, staff was great and so helpful. Will definitely stay here again. Right off the main drag and less than five minutes walk to the beach!
A nice little oasis just a few blocks from the hustle and bustle of Avenida Quinta (5th Ave.) Stayed over a weekend and never heard a peep from anywhere outside of the property. The room was spacious with a very comfortable king sized bed. The room had an electronic safe box, cold a/c, nice wall mounted flat-screen tv and an amore. I really enjoyed the hand-painted Mexican ceramic sink in the bathroom, which added a nice touch. No shower curtain but it wasn't necessary as there is a half-wall between the shower and the rest of the bathroom. Also the hand soap was quite pleasant; glad I brought 1 or 2 home with me. The bathroom does require that toilet paper be put in the small covered wastebasket provided (as does most of Mexico) between the sink and toilet. The toilet paper is cleverly dispensed in large 1 square units from a dispenser mounted on the wall (I have never seen this before anywhere in Mexico). It takes a little getting used to but I am sure that it cuts down considerably on waste. Just outside the front door of the room was a little covered patio with a hammock for lazy afternoon naps or book reading. There is a very small pool on the property, but it is quite small and probably best used for conversations more than anything else. This hotel is very convenient to the new(er) ADO bus terminal on Avenida 20 between Calle 12 y 14 but about 9 blocks or a 100 Mxn pesos taxi ride (very over-priced imho)from the ADO terminal on Calle Benito Juarez and Avenida Quinta.
Playa del Karma wasn't fancy but was very clean and had a great vibe. It almost reminded me of the complex in Tales of the City. Plants everywhere, nice breezes. Sometimes a little noisy but loved staying here.
