Definitely different than an all-inclusive experience but much better if your desire is peace, tranquility and relaxation. Wonderful accommodations and wonderful staff. Great food, great view, good drinks!
HIP made the trip with my daughter and adult granddaughter really special. Good location. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Plenty of beach chairs and beds available. Free breakfasts were definitely a plus. Great service from bar. Chocolates and turndown at night were a nice extra touch. Live music a couple of nights, happy hour everyday, 2 for 1 drinks day and little garden area were nice extras as well. 24/7 front desk service great for arriving late or departing extra early!Would have given 5 stars but the garden room is noisy from bar across street and traffic....of course, the hotel has no control over that. Will definitely return!
When I attempted to book my room, I asked via email about the loud music people have complained about in other reviews. (See tamartodd's review from April 2017 which was about “Loud music club accross the street blaring techno music all night” etc...) Their response was that they couldn't control noise from off the property. I then simply asked for assurance that I'd be able to sleep at night, letting them know that some noise wasn't a problem. And they just stopped responding. I sent them a few more emails and they never bothered to respond. Just wanted to share this experience which is, to me, a major red flag. I've been to Tulum before and there are plenty of great places to stay. My advise is to look elsewhere.
We just got back from a week in Tulum and have found our new favorite beach vacation destination. We stayed at Hip Hotel and found the entire staff friendly and helpful. The included breakfast was varied and very good and the beach was beyond words. We stayed in a garden view room which was still just steps from the beach. The room had one full wall of sliders which we left open with just the screen closed all night. There is nothing like falling asleep to the sound of waves and waking to the sound of tropical birds. Napping in the hammock is also highly recommended. The beach at Hip Hotel is fantastic with lots of available shade with comfortable beach chairs and available beds. Yes, there is a good amount of seaweed in April, but HIp Hotel had some of the best grounds crews and they worked tirelessly to remove the seaweed morning and afternoon. Tulum is off the grid and relaxing with some of the most amazing food options I've ever seen. You choose from beach front dining or on the "jungle side" where every restaurant is open air, candle lit and gorgeous. The only downside is that this isn't cheap Mexico. The lovely restaurants and varied food and craft cocktails come at a cost that felt like I was still in a big city. Rent bikes and ride into town for some more reasonable food options. Tulum and Hip Hotel? Simply the best!
The room was beautiful as was the beach. The restaurant was lovely with a wonderful staff. Unfortunately our trip was ruined by the very loud techno music from a club directly across the street blaring until 1:30 am each of the three nights we were there. We would not sleep. We could not relax. We were exhausted. Not the relaxing trip to Tulum we were hoping for. We complained each day to the hotel but they were unable to resolve the problem.
We stayed here for 3 nights at the beginning of April. We booked the ocean view room and stayed in #22. You pay for either a garden view or ocean view however rooms 13-18 are the single story buildings which are actually beach front rooms. Rooms 21-28 are in the 2 story buildings and ocean view but not front. Very windy the days we were there, no problems with blowing sand however everything on the beach and patio usually had a salt water mist on it. No coffee machines in rooms but restaurant will give you free coffee to go. No fridge in rooms, we planned for this and bought a styrofoam cooler at the grocery store to have cold beer and wine in our room. No ice machine in public area however restaurant gave us ice every day. Rooms have no glass windows just screens with locking shutters on the inside. No AC however not a problem when we were there because of the wind. We kept shutters open at night and always a nice breeze and the ocean sound to help fall asleep. Was not busy when we were there so lots of empty beach chairs. Food and drink wait service on the beach. Great Mexican food in the restaurant. Free breakfast off the menu in the morning. A lot of people ask about the seaweed. We walked 30 minutes in both directions along the beach and seaweed everywhere. Most hotels try to keep their beach seaweed free by either burying it or wheelbarrowing it away. Maybe a couple hotels were weed free but most were not. Hip had 3-4 people working about 6 hours a day raking and taking it away but fighting a losing battle. Needed twice that many people working twice as many hours to keep the beach weed free. No smell from the seaweed so it never bothered us. We swam in the ocean every day. All staff we meet were very helpful and great service. We would definitely stay here again. If you are the Cancun all inclusive type person this is probably not for you. But if you want to go barefoot and shirtless every day and stay right on the beach in the sand this is it.
Understand that most hotels will request for a credit card deposit when you check in but they will refund you full amount if nothing is consume in their restaurant or mini bar when you check out. This is the FIRST hotel in the whole wide world that I encounter that charge $0.01 cent when you consume nothing. The amount will be billed to your credit card. Now $0.01 cent maybe nothing to a single client, but if every single room is charge $0.01 cent then this can accumulate to a sum due to the high turnover in the rooms in a year. Is this even legal and fair to guests? The hotel is nice with good ambience, and rooms come with A/C but this bothers me when I check out. To me it looks like a scheme to get more money for the hotel. I mean tourists do give tips to the portal plus room cleaners etc, you request for a credit card for deposit, we can understand, but charging a 1 cent is not even considered as a refund, is like cheating as most customers will not even noticed it!
We had a great time at Hip Hotel Tulum - spacious, very clean and tastefully decorated bungalow, with a beautiful view on the beach. The bed was not amazing, and it would have been nice to have a dressing gown, as part of the pampering they want to offer their guests. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Shame about the restaurant, which offered limited choice, with expensive and often disappointing food. I would still recommend the hotel though!
Do not let them put you in Room 1 or 2! Those should be torn down because of location. The place stretches north/south along the beach. At the southern end is the restaurant, lobby, and area for the employees. Room 1 and 2 are on the South side of that! So they're completely surrounded by nosiest and busiest part of the hotel. Do not get stuck in those two rooms! The other bungalows are incredible with great views! Place is peaceful and really worth it. We were slated for Room 1, we got out of it, but they made us move while we were there. It was a hassle and burnt a day. They made us check out without letting us check in to the other room. We waited on the new room for 5 HOURS. Service was lacking. I'd book here again, but will call ahead of time for room assignment.
After a 10 days trip in Yucatan, I wanted to stay in Tulum in a beautiful and quiet place to do my proposal to my girlfriend. Hip Hotel was just perfect. I had an ocean view bedroom. The bedroom is big, and the shower amazing. The ocean is beautiful and you can relax on their beach bed and mastress. I was in touch with the hotel to organize a romantic dinner on the beach, very private to ask my girlfriend's hand, and they helped me a lot and spent a lot of energy to make this evening perfect. I would like to personnaly Thanks Jorge, the hotel manager and Christian, our waiter that night for their efforts, their smiles and their services. I will come back for sure
