Hip Hotel Tulum3.0 out of 5.0

My husband and I spent a week at Hip and loved every second of it. The beach and view from our ocean front room were beyond compare. We felt perfectly placed as well to walk along the road to different shops and restaurants. The staff was very helpful and we loved both of the excursions that the hotel recommended and helped us to book. We were there for my 40th birthday and they recommended and made reservations at such a special restaurant for us as well. The breakfast that was included was delicious and hearty. If you're looking for upscale luxury, you may want to book with their sister hotel, Ana y Jose, but if you're looking for a more casual, laid back atmosphere like we were, Hip is terrific. There are crooked stairs, doors that don't seal well, no AC, but also no fuss. If you want to show up for breakfast in your pjs and no shoes, no one will care. It was total and utter relaxation and we can't wait to come back for an anniversary.
i would highly recommend this hotel for anybody that really wants to disconnect and enjoy the vacations in a comfortable hotel. This hotel is a perfect size since you do not feel overwhelmed from the other guests, the food is good and the service is very good even though a little bit slow. The people in the front desk are always eager to help you out in anything you need. The rooms are clean and are the perfect size for 2/3 people. Note: this hotel doesnt have a pool and the breakfast is included in the rate.
Nothing fancy, but all you need and all you should want. The Hip Hotel captures the feel of Tulum Beach from 15 - 20 years ago. Thatched roofs, coral walled showers, mosquito netting over the beds, etc. are all there. You find out you do not need A/C, paved paths, lighted walkways, or TV's in the bar. Bring a book, your best friend(s), and an attitude that is ready to relax and you will not want to leave. Lastly, this a a staff that is disciplined, well trained, attentive, interactive and ALWAYS helpful. This was about my 25th trip down and never has a hotel I have stayed in been as well operated as the Hip Hotel.
Stayed at Hip for 2 weeks this December. This was our second stay at Hip and it was just as great as always. Orlando, Julio, Selene, Ana, Christine, Nickolas and the rest of the staff took great care of us. Miss you already and can't wait to return.
Bring cash as sometimes the card machine does not work. They do not accept Amex eventhough they are a high scale boutique hotel. Even paying with cash they did not have change. Its so weird they do not check this kind of details.
We stayed here 6 nights, first the positives. The location of the hotel is great and the beach you step onto from your cabin is beautiful. The staff are all excellent, nothing was too much trouble. Also the breakfast and restaurant was always impressive In terms of the cabins, they are nice but basic. This was fine for us, but if you need AC, a fridge, a hairdryer etc. this isn’t place. Our sole complaint would be we were invited to go to sister hotel Ana y Jose, where we had a 2hr sales pitch to join their members club. This was effectively to pay several thousand dollars to bulk buy nights at either hotel, with fee upgrades/other discounts etc. It was fine, we didn’t sign up and we got a free 30 min massage for our time, which was good. However, it’s just not the kind of thing we’d really expect of a top tier hotel. I think when you decide to do this, as much as you convince yourself it’s good for your guests, you’re now over prioritising profit at the detriment to guest experience and the balance has shifted too far, especially when it’s through pushy sales tactics All in all though, this didn’t impact our enjoyment of the place too much and we really enjoyed Hip Hotel and would come back if we ever came back to Tulum
Stay in June 2017 for 8 days for our second honeymoon. We enjoy our time! Beautiful beach, the service is fantastic , breakfast was included, and the staff is excellent. The location is right on the beach, our view was the beach. This hotel does not have air conditioning or any other accommodations from big resorts but it doesn't mean is not comfortable. You don't need air conditioning if the wind from the beach is enjoyable. We will go back there is no doubt!!! Don't think about it is beautiful hotel, rustic but the view and location is awesome no doubt.
We had a Great stay at this Fantastic hotel. Will definitely come back. Breakfast was included which was awesome. Great beach and nicely located beachfront restaurant/bar. Good service. The staffs english skills weren’t so good but mine Spanish is also really bad :)
Good location right on the beach - and immeasurably better than our previous hotel down the road! Nice raised, colonial feeling bar/restaurant with great staff Breakfast and dinner both good But as a caution the sea view rooms 13-15 were much inferior to 16-18, and probably not worth the upgrade
Stayed 5 days November 10-15 while wedding venue searching for my daughter’s wedding. Great location with many walkable or short taxi rides to amazing restaurants. The breakfasts which are included with room are delicious and the wait staff is so awesome. You are also allowed to breakfast at 2 sister hotels Coral and Ana y Jose which are also amazing. Beach is beautiful with plentiful chairs, beds and shade if desired. Beach front room was the best with ocean steps away. The entire staff of Hip was the nicest hotel staff I have ever met. They work very hard to make your stay the best. I would definitely stay again and will recommend it to our wedding guests. We left with a place for Tulum in our heart.
