I was pleased with the hotel and the room, it’s location a block from Ipanema Beach, and the view of Cristo Redentor from my hotel room’s window. The breakfast was typical and good, and for the most part, the staff was friendly. However, though the first morning, the shower functioned normally, by the second day, I had to turn the cold water off completely in order to get a lukewarm shower. By the third and final day, it was practically a cold shower. When I told the front desk as I was checking out, the guy made it seem like it was my responsibility to tell them. I was there in business, and working 12 to 14 hour days. While that’s not TOO unreasonable, as I probably should have told them, I would have expected them to come me something or lower the bill. Given that they charged me a half day for a 5PM checkout, that would have been the “right” thing to do. With SO many great hotels in Rio, I’ll have to think long and hard as to whether I’ll stay there next time I’m in Rio, 2 months from now....

Great hotel, half block away from the beach and near a good bunch of great restaurants. excellent location

the entire staff great amaz ing great location great pricep

This was my 4th time over a 10 year period that I stayed at the Ipanema Plaza. While it’s still a nice place to stay the old girl is starting to show it’s age. We had to upgrade our first room because the air conditioning didn’t work. Some of their rooms have been remodeled and some haven’t so I think that’s important to ask when checking in. So we paid about $18 a night extra to relocate to a remodeled room on the top floor with a beautiful view of the city. The only complaint I had about that room is that hot water wasn’t always available. Sometimes we’d have to run the shower for 5-10 minutes to get the water just to warm. Otherwise, the room was great. I stay(and will continue to stay) at this hotel due to its location. It’s smack dab in the most happening(and gay if you’re into that) area of Ipanema. Also the view from the pool is stunning. Still a good hotel, albeit a little more frayed around the edges in some ways.

Great location! Safe, friendly and helpful staff, buffet breakfast - a lot of choices..

No room upgrade or Welcome Drink offered as informed by reservation!!!! Pool and Gym Center closed since October 28th/14, there was no information about this during reservation process. Front Desk personal rude , unpolite. Room still not done at 5PM

What every room needs is just a water heater pot for your tea.. Otherwise it was a good overall stay, breakfast was fine. Safe place to be in ipanema.

Location of this hotel is perfect, right next to the Ipanema beach, walking distance to countless restaurants and Sunday flea market. Restaurant in the lobby was decent too, and staff was nice. But... if it wasn't for location, this would be at best a 2-star hotel. I am not a high maintenance person at all, but my room, especially the bathroom was disgusting. Old yellow appliances, dirty bathtub, dirty walls, leaking toilet, which didn't even flush, so I had to call maintenance. I was afraid to touch anything in the room, so I just spent most of the time in town. Thankfully, I was only staying one night! Again, I am not high maintenance AT ALL, but only expected basic cleanliness. And to add insult to injury, I paid extra for the Delux room, not even the Standard.

Good location, good Japanese restaurant in house. Breakfast great. Pool people nice and friendly. But the fitness equipment sucks. Also the room needs renovation and the bed is too short for long guys. Reception like to think tourists are rich and sends you to the expensive places. Asked for hairdresser and the send me after a call to a place where they immediately raised the price 25% from regular and I got cut by an amateur.

This hotel was excellent. Large, comfortable room with friendly and helpful staff and excellent breakfast. One block from the beach and so close to every kind of restaurant. We didn't need to leave a 3 block radius to have the best trip! Great place!

The entire rooftop area- pool, bar, and lounge-was closed. That was a big reason I booked this particular hotel. I feel like it was a misrepresentation to advertise a rooftop deck with a pool and lounge and for it to be not available. I should hope to be compensated.

Well-located, 1 block from the beach. Excellent breakfast with outdoor tables. The desk staff are very friendly and accommodating. Hotel construction & rennovation on creates some day time noise.

Half a block from the beach, wonderful rooftop pool with great views, this property would score 4 stars if the breakfast were improved and they put installed some beach-view windows. Pricey, but not too out of line for Rio.

The location couldn't have been better. Especially if you are gay. 2 blocks from the gay beach, 2 blocks from great gay bars. Everything is easy and walkable. The hotel was fine...

nothing worked. the wifi was erratic and the television didn't work for two days. the in room safe didn't work and no one would come and re-set it. the toilet seat was broken.

Ipanema Plaza was the perfect location! It was on a lively street, close to the beach, and had a great rooftop pool. Breakfast was basic. The staff, especially at the reception, were extremely unfriendly and borderline rude. The rooms were clean and spacious.

Very dirty!too expansive! totally not worth! they are only 3 star hotel, but get 5 star price!

Hotel has great location. Staff is very friendly and accommodating. If you are looking for luxury, this is not a choice you should make, but if you can settle for reasonable comfort, this is it. Breakfast included in price was good.

Nice staff but reception desk seemed frustrated and satiated with routine. Need more support dynamics. Rooms clean. shower tiles need cleaning, door frames rusting, smell of cockroach/insect killing chemicals. Very important, airvents in shower do not work. Humidity takes over and it takes long for mirrors to clear. Utility closets dead roaches seen when maintenance came up to reduce hot water pressure. Refrigerators very week, innefficient, could not keep water cold. drainage dirty with meldew. Excellent pool area. Dry sauna less efficient than wet sauna/steam room. Breakfast excellent. Need small coffee pots to take to tables when requested. To get up to refill coffee staning on line ... food got cold. No facial tissues. So, toilet tissues had to be used. Chips on floor tiles need to be patched. EXCELLENT ENERGY SAVING CONCEPTS. HALLWAY LIGHTS WOULD BE ON ONLY WITH MOTION DETECTION.

great location, couple of minutes from ipanema beach and in a lively neighborhood. went in early december and weather was mostly sunny. hotel restaurant is pretty decent, the rooftop pool has spectacular views, workout room leaves something to be desired, but mostly the location is why to stay here
