My husband and I spent the night at the Henry Clay Inn while visiting our daughter and her husband in Ashland. The room was very comfortable, the staff was very accommodating and we had a lovely breakfast with another couple on the second floor balcony overlooking the railroad tracks. We could not have asked for a better overnight stay, it was so much better than a stay at a chain hotel. Thank you to the Henry Clay Inn for a lovely relaxing stay! We will be back.
I recently stayed for two nights a couple of days ago. I was thoroughly impressed by the rooms, and the overall historical vibe of this quaint establishment. The morning breakfast was splendid and there are options for most anyone, I highly recommend the pancakes. The staff go out of their way to satisfy everyone, and the other guests are equally as nice. A bonus if you’re a rail-fan is the inns location right next to the railroad tracks. You will not be disappointed. The town of Ashland is a convenient half hour away from Richmond and within an hour or two drive of most other historical attractions Virginia has to offer. I will most definitely be back.
Outstanding place to hold a small (60-80 guests) wedding reception. Beautiful inn with outstanding staff. Hospitality plus. Staff goes out of their way to make you feel right at home. Great breakfast, included in the price of the room. Just 10 miles north of Richmond, VA. Small town atmosphere with nice walk around areas. Near Randolf-Macon University campus. Best to stay on the second floor, near the end of the hall.
Stayed one night in this quaint town at the most remarkable inn overlooking the train station! Great ambiance and the most pleasant folks. Great coffee shops, wine store and restaurants. Pleasant walk around town. Just what we wanted. We will do again!
Husband is a lover of trains, and I was looking for a weekend getaway location, and Ashland was the perfect fit. The inn is charming, and was prettily decorated for Valentine's Day. The staff was attentive, especially at breakfast. We spent a leisurely early evening sitting in the upstairs parlor (with balcony), watching the trains go by. Our room was comfortable, and even though it faced the tracks, I was only awoken once by the sound of the train. Several lovely restaurants and shops and even a brewery are just down the street, so we parked the car and strolled. No need for Uber!
Enjoyable and comfortable nights stay. Room was nice size, well decorated, very clean, comfy bed. Open living room on second floor by most guest rooms where guest sat around to chat and have a glass of wine. Staff extremely welcoming and friendly. Excellent breakfast, I had the Chesapeake Omelet.
We enjoyed our two-night stay in the Henry Clay Inn last weekend in mid-January. The inn is located right behind the Ashland Visitor’s Center and Train Depot and very close to the railroad tracks. We rode the train to Ashland and disembarked just steps away from the Inn. Really convenient location! We were given the Hanover Suite on the second floor. It was spacious and clean. Our king size bed was very firm but comfortable. The room has pocket doors separating the bedroom from the living area and there is a huge flat screen television. This room also has a large bathroom with a Jacuzzi tub. Staff members were very welcoming and answered all of our questions since this was our first visit. Morning breakfast was served in the dining room. Service was outstanding and our cooked to order breakfasts were delicious. Breakfasts were included in the room rate. We also enjoyed the second-floor lobby. There is a Keurig coffee machine with a good selection of coffees, teas, and hot chocolates. There is plenty of free parking to the rear. Several good restaurants, the town’s museum, and the Ashland movie theater are all within walking distance. Check out the photos of the old Inn which was destroyed by fire years ago. Photos are in the short hallway just past reception. Definitely worth another visit!
My family recently stayed at the Henry Clay Inn for our wedding at the Historic Hanover Tavern. I can't being to say how wonderful the staff and the venue were. Everyone had a wonderful time, the food and the rooms were wonderful and the location was perfect. We will be staying there on a regular basis. It was wonderful being able to sit outside on their porches and take in the sites and sounds of Ashland. Fantastic location, food, and people. Make sure that you give it a try!
The Henry Clay Inn is old. And historic. Do not go expecting the lastest in accommodations. But the owners have worked with the old gal and made her very comfortable. My room was clean and nicely appointed. Yes, there are trains. I found the sounds adding to my experience of the history. The breakfast menu covered the basics. The food was tasty. The oatmeal, very much so. The staff were welcoming and helpful. My only warning: be careful crossing the train tracks!
Always a great place to stay during Ashland Train Day. Full breakfast included. Beautiful rooms. Friendly staff. Lovely large upper porch for viewing trains or hanging out with friends and a glass of wine.
