Our room was clean and there was enough room and light; however, the beds were not very comfortable. The breakfast buffet was great with lots of choices. Hotel staff not overly friendly or helpful. Be prepared to pay for parking, although the space is limited and the parking lot poorly lit.
Was very clean, staff was great and very attentive. Basic hotel tho and not really in a great location.. Central to highways but not much around the area to do, especially eating or grabbing a drink somewhere. Breakfast was good, huge selection.. Charge you for parking 5 euro a day which is kinda petty..
The staff, especially bartender Mario, was exceptional. Very fluent in English and MOST helpful. The breakfast buffet had eggs, several sausages, baon, beans, fruit, breads, yogurt and juices. A hearty (but repetitious) breakfast. The hotel is mstly used by tour agencies so if you need something when they arrive or depart by the busload, it's not a food time. The smoking area is right at the front door. Horrible! Smokers leave butts and empty food containers and one cannot come or go without walking through clouds of stinky smoke. It should be moved away from the only entrance and put where everyone doesn't have to inhale. It's about a 30 minute drive from Heidelberg and there are a few good restaurants in the area (10-15 minute drive) but the hotel restauarant is very good for your first night in the hotel ecept it's closed on Sunday and we weren't told this when we checked in.
On the first day we arrived early from the airport. They allowed us to check in and, since we did not have breakfast yet, and a buffet breakfast was included in the booking we had Brodchen und aufschnit .which is a traditional German breakfast. It's good that we enjoyed it because the scrambled eggs and potatoes were cold and bland. We didn't have breakfast one of the mornings because booked a night in another hotel a half days ride away. When we checked out they charged us 19 Euros each for two breakfasts on our first day. We only paid 21 Euros each for a full traditional German dinner in the tourist zone in downtown Heidelberg. The breakfast was a rip-off..
This is a nice hotel for the value. Our favorite part about this hotel is the breakfast. Staff are nice and helpful. Bed is very firm, but I find it pretty standard for most hotels in Europe. Warning: this hotel doesn't have AC in rooms, but does provide a floor fan. This is not an issue for us since we went in September and don't need AC. Hotel is conveniently situated, not too far from other towns. Plenty to do if you have a rental car.
When we walked into the room in September, a very cool month, there is a bad smell in the room. Can't really describe the smell, it is like mold or something. There are no places to eat around the area. I will not recommend this hotel to anyone. It has a 4 star rating, but I would it is worth 2 stars at best!
We didn't realize there would be no airconditioning in this hotel. It was up to 87 some days we were there and the room got quite hot. They provided floor fans but it didn't get it cool enough at night to sleep well even with the windows open. Plus they charged for parking by the time we arrived, although when we first reserved this hotel there was no parking charge. Location was convenient and staff was friendly.
Hotel was listed as 4-star which is why we booked there. Rooms were small, outdated, no AC, no washcloths. Desk staff was friendly and breakfast buffet was very good but still very disappointed in overall stay.
We are American and did not speak much German (okay, hardly any) when staying. The staff here were accommodating, understanding, friendly, and welcoming. The room was quaint and had just what we needed. There was no air conditioning, but the room was comfortable in the August weather anyway. The room was also serviced every day for our 6 day stay, which I did not expect. It was almost over the top! But very nice to come back after a day away in other parts of Germany to new towels. The hotel is located right outside Heidelberg, which could have kept us very busy during our whole stay. But we also ventured to the south to see the alps, and to the east to see Prague. Each excursion was about 5 hours from the hotel. It made for long days, but it's really centrally located if you've got a car and some time. The breakfast at the hotel was also an amazing start to each day. Many choices, all delicious, and top notch service. I want to give a special shout out to the kind gentleman who we saw nearly every morning - I wish I knew his name, but he always greeted us with a smile when he brought coffee to our table, and on our last day as I was frantically trying to check-out and start navigating our way to the airport, he saw me and gave me a coffee to-go, since we were up and our before breakfast hours. Hopefully he sees this! All in all, a great trip and a great stay. Thank you!
NH Hirschberg is convenient to Heidelberg and Frankfurt and you can get to France in a couple of hours and Switzerland in about 4 from here. It's in a beautiful region of the country, and from our window we could see a mountain with a castle lit up at night which was really nice. The breakfast was outstanding, and the staff was friendly and helpful. However, this is not a hotel Americans are used to. This is a fairly sub-standard European room: no air conditioning, extremely small, quite outdated, in a not so attractive property. There were some cleanliness issues that were off-putting. I wish I would have upgraded to the NH property in downtown Heidelberg. We visited it, and it is far nicer and only about 10km away.
