The entire stay with this hotel was bad from the start. Upon arrival the check in counter was a mad house. Tour groups had arrived and clogged reception. There were two people checking in this lot. Took nearly a half hour to get checked in from arrival. The room itself was dated. The furniture was old and worn. It appeared as if someone else had the room prior to me and didn’t want it as some towels and the soap appeared used in the bathroom. The room itself was freezing cold. The small heater was useless against old windows letting drafts in. When I completed the online survey with orbitz about checking in and saying it was freezing, a few minutes later a space heater arrived from room service. The space heater struggled to get the room up to 17C during the entire stay. What a joke this place is! I spent good money per night on this dump. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone, especially not in cold weather. You’ll freeze to death in your own room.

Came in on a pretty hot day. Found out that this hotel, having a very fancy and modern looking lobby, did have A/C in guest rooms. Hotel staff were very nice but they could only give us a small fan, which didn't help much. If you come to Queenstown in summer, ask whether a hotel has A/C before you book.

We chose this hotel as it was reasonably close to town and advertised on site parking. However, there were a few shortcomings: - very limited on site parking with what seemed like no enforcement. People were parking each other in and also blocking the internal circulation. We had to park a 5-10 minute walk down the road instead - there was a musty smell from the bathroom - the verandah/deck outside the room was shared - no shower gel

The room was clean and with the lake view was a plus. It is near to town a 10 minutes walk. I will recommend this hotel to my friends whose planning to visit Queenstown.

The view from the resturaunt is spectacular. We got 2 adjoining rooms for us and our 2 teenagers - the pull out couch was HORRIBLY uncomfortable - - also the space was very tight. Not our most comfortable place to stay but the location is good and the view while eating breakfast was great.

Yes, rooms older/smaller than some, but comfortable, clean and great location and view. Would definitely stay again.

Love it great place to go more then happy here and couldn't ask for better. Would always come back to this hotel

We traveled with our two teenage daughters, and all of us had a great time. We really enjoyed the location -- there were beautiful views and we were able to walk around the lake directly from our hotel.

My wife and I recently stayed here and had a great time. The location is near impossible to beat, located right on Lake Wakatipu with views of the Remarkables and Cecil and Walter peak. The staff is friendly and the rooms while somewhat small are nice, clean and if you have a lake facing room are great.

Great location, great rate. Bare bones room. The hotel seems much nicer than our room and rate would indicate. It is possible that they have some very inexpensive rooms just to help out people like us.

Great location, well appointed, liked staying at the Rydges. Loved the view of the lake.

The member of the Rydges hotel chain in Queenstown has an excellent location right across the street from a beautiful lake. It is definitely worth requesting a lake view room. The hotel is spread out in several wings, some of which do not have elevators, but a very strong and accommodating bellman/concierge is anxious to help carry your bags. Rooms are of comfortable size and have all the expected amenities.

The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, which was great because I was traveling alone. The location was fantastic - just a short walk to center of town. Everything was comfortable and clean. I read previous reviews stating that the hotel was a little rundown, and there is room for improvement, but I'm very happy with my stay here and would definitely come back.

The positives of this hotel are: 1) view (if you get a lakeside room) and 2) location (nice to be by lake and the walk to downtown is easy). However, our room smelled odd, the facility is very dated and the layout is a labyrinth (have to take two elevators to get up to rooms on the top floors, stairs don't continue, etc.) There are better options for the same price.

Location cannot be beat. Staff is great - very helpful. Lake side rooms are highly recommending. Walls are a little thin and same goes for the floors - noise travels easily down the halls and can be disturbing if people are noisy at night coming and going down the hallways. Heaters in rooms in the M section of the hotel are somewhat fickle and I kept finding myself cold in the room, but otherwise the hotel is amazing and I plan on staying here in the future for sure!!

We stayed here in December 2011 and were disappointed. There are some good points: five minute walk into town, a nice restaurant, & free internet in the bar area. For us, these things did not outweigh the fact that the room was long overdue for a refurb. Carpet was dirty and worn; dried gum stuck on it that had turned black long ago. No air conditioning. Windows opened, however then the sounds from cars and loud people on the street kept waking us up.

My room was on 9th floor, it is so old that it has unpleasent smells, I have to open the windows even it was cold outside. The sheets look clean.

This a little older hotel but in perfect location and excellent price, plus a very friendly and helpful staff. We arrived early for check in not only there was no problems, they also gave us an upgrade with a nice view of the lake. The rooms are fairly large and very clean. The hotel is within walking distance of the downtown area and all the restaurants and shopping and lake activities, etc. Originally we had booked for one night and we decided to stay another night. They gave us the second night at the same low rate, even though they had a large convention at the hotel (Thank you [...]!). Enjoyed our stay very much and highly recommend this.

Our hotel experience was horrible, they said wireless internet was available in the hotel, well it was just not in our room, there were no hangers in the room, the event calendar in the room was for the wrong month, it was soooooo hot in our room, and the outlets in the bathroom did not work. Also the phones were down for days as well as the 'computer room' where you had to pay for internet. And lets not forget the $8.60 charge to make two 2 minute local calls. The worst hotel experience I have ever had.

was deceived by both [...] and the hotel... was bearly what one would calla backpackers rooms... and things went from bad to worse.. if you are interested contact me for details...
