No wifi (pre-paid) Poor breakfast (only milk and bread). A little bit far away from city center (20m walk). I paid the hotel before I arrive there. Even with this, they asked for a credit card which they took note on a file (safety?). Close to gondula but keep in mind that the reception closes at 20h.
This place, without question, is the worst place I have ever stayed. If there was an opportunity to give this dump a negative rating, it would have earned it. From the drunken ignorant guests who feel it's ok to wake everyone between 11 pm through to 3am, to the heard of elephants doing what seemed like beep tests all night in the room above us. Broom closet bathrooms, I knew it was going to be bad when our first room placed us next to the common games room toilet facilities. The urinal cake, stale beer smell in this room was just glorious. The second room under the herd of elephants was no better, considering the poo on the wall in the bathroom. Quite clearly this place is a backpackers dump for teenage to early twenty something snowboarders with no money. If that's not you, don't stay here. If it is you, learn some friggen manners and Drunken class and don't be so ignorant to the other guests that you yell your way to bed at 3am. I will never stay here again & suggest that anyone I know avoids this place like the plague. They staff were rude and unhelpful. After 9 don't bother, they won't do anything. It was without doubt the worst place I have ever stayed. It's not even worth a picture, it's so bad.
We booked Reavers Lodge as part of a 3 week trip through New Zealand and, unfortunately, did not look at these reviews before booking. It is cheap for Queenstown, but is extremely loud in the evenings. The accommodation itself is reasonable with basic, but clean rooms. The front desk/reception offers a service for booking events/activities at a discounted rate which was good. It also has a competitively priced ski hire store on the premises. The kitchens aren't particularly well equipped - there wasn't even a knife in the kitchen just a few pans. Compared to other hostels across NZ the quality and cost of this hostel was rather disappointing. However, for Queenstown it is a cheap option. However, all three nights we were woken up by drunken screaming. There is no night porter on duty and reception is closed from around 9pm onwards so there is nothing that you can do apart from asking people to be quiet. The walls of the rooms (and doors and windows) are very thin so you can hear everything and we were disturbed a number of times every evening. All in all a very disappointing hostel. Fortunately, as there is so much to do, we were only there in the evenings.
We booked this room as it was one of the only places with a room in April this year. We booked a room with two beds (specified on website as two doubles) and when we arrived they put us in a room with just one double bed. We went and got this changed and the second room was fine, Clean with what we needed, but beware if your scared of heights or climbing ladders.. the double bed was on a mezanine with very low ceiling no room to move around up there. my single bed was by the front door (no problem) but the window behind me did not shut properly so i had to wedge a magazine there. It advertised heating , but this only came on at 6pm and it was very cold in the room considering we were there in early autumn. Anyway the worst points were: -- Under the bed sheet, on the actual duvet/quilt LOTS of black long hair (this was our last hostel in NZ so i bared it and made sure the sheet on top didnt move but it was disgustin. -- the wi-fi did not work at all. apparently should work in the communal areas but it didnt work for me at all. -- Hot tub advertised as big selling point- it was chained up so we asked how we go about getting it opened. she came and opened it but there was scum and loads of leaves floating around and she didnt even think about cleaning it... we didnt go in. ps didnt bother us- but really is up a very steap hill. Good point _ the view. nice to have a view of the remarkables area from your room and the bar and staff in the bar were lovely.
Rooms were shabby, could hear all the drunks banging and yelling all night. People smoking dope was unmistakable. Beds were terrible, mattresses were filthy and pillows were in similar condition, were there for 6 days and no clean sheets, towels or coffee renewed. Hardly slept due to drunks and people walking and banging on doors at 3 am, staff were unhelpful, and less than approachable. Parking was a luck of the draw game and no guarantee that you will find one. We paid for 3 weeks and stayed 6 days longer than we should. We decided it was the better idea to pay more money to get out of the nightmare hotel and rented rooms in a better place (they will not refund money for any reason). My advice is to stay clear of this place unless you are a young, single person on a very tight budget.
If only I knew i'll have one of the worst stay in my life with what might have been a pleasant holiday with my baby and mom I should have spend a few dollars.oh well! I specifically emailed them a few weeks back that to ensure I have parking as I will be bringing a campervan and that room is near as I will be bringing a baby and guess what?no reply!it could have been much easier if they said its not possible and that parking is a first come first serve basis..i ended up parking down the steep hill and if youre unlucky you'll get an infringement.and they cant be bothered! and when I politely asked them to make some changes, the recptionist was the worst person to be talking to. Very rude and unhelpful! As the other reviews says its cheap, but that doesnt mean they have the right to put customer service at stake! Soo dissapointed I have never experience this travelling anywhere in NZ and other parts of the world!
Reavers is ok if your looking for a pit stop, any more then two nights then you must be desperate, the showers a shocking. The Chinese lady at the front desk was extremely rude and no help what so ever.
Drunk people very loud outside our room between 2-4am. They were riding other guests snowboards down the concrete stairway. Got no sleep and left after one night. Admin are refusing to refund second night because we didn't walk 100m past the drunks to get the night managers number off a door. They are in Australia and don't care at all. STAY SOMEWHERE ELSE, anywhere else but this place!!!!
Cheap and cheerful is probably how I'd describe it. We had a loft room which was private, had its own kitchen, bathroom etc. Beds were comfy and the place was clean. However, the noise from the other guests travelled through the walls, so we got woken early hours of the morning. It also has really bad water/shower pressure, our shower was more of a dribble.
The Reavers Lodge is the type of accommodation for young people. If you are staying on the lower or middle floors, you will hear every step people in the above rooms take which results in very little sleep. Showers are not fantastic, hot water runs for around 1min and the pressure is similar to a dripping tap. The staff were friendly and the food was very nice. Close walk to town only being 10minutes.
