We ended our New Zealand honeymoon with three nights at the Doubletree in Queenstown. We were warmly welcomed by the staff with the delicious cookies and then a bottle of wine in our room. However, within five minutes of entering the room, a repairman was sent to our room to fix a leaking air conditioner. Apparently it had been leaking earlier (the carpet below it was wet); however, I’m not sure why it couldn’t be fixed before our arrival. I had done early check-in online as an HHonors member, and told them we would arrive at 4; we arrived at 5, so there should have been plenty of time. He was in our room for at least 20 minutes. The walls and facilities in the room were fairly dinged up, but the bed was very comfortable. We had a beautiful view of the Remarkables from our window. The facilities at the nearby Hilton were fantastic, and we really enjoyed Stacks.
This hotel is nothing like The Doubletree in Barcelona Spain, which was full of life and luxurious, and the reason I selected Doubletree again. This Doubletree in Queenstown has no soul, no life. Not even a bar! The first room we were given at check in faced a brick retaining fence and it smelt terrible. It needed airing. The second was ok but tiny bathroom. I don't understand why they gave us a room that had such a terrible smell in the first place. Especially how reception told us that as Hilton honours members we were upgraded. The other thing that I didn't like was UHT milk instead of fresh was supplied in rooms for coffee. Breakfast further down at the Hilton was good and the view lovely. The shuttle service into Queenstown was handy.
Upon arrival we were greeted warmly and provided a delicious warm cookie! The staff were very friendly and provided great, honest advice. The room we stayed in was very comfortable and had a small kitchenette which was very handy. The bed was a little softer than what I prefer but overall it wasn't too bad. Staff would deliver water and chocolates on a daily basis and would leave nice notes and messages. It was a very pleasant experience and I would definitely stay here again! Thank you Hilton Double Tree!
Although it's 8 km away from city centre, it actually gives all the tranquility we need to have a quality sleep after previous days of stopovers in other cities. We were delighted to find the clever way of section the room into a well planned suite with a small scaled full functioning kitchen! In Hilton! My daughter and I were solely pleased and even thinking of stay one more night, if our schedule allowed. Highly recommended.
so glad we stayed here, service and rooms are exceptional. ample parking, everything a traveler needs are just within 50m radius. Deli, restaurants/bar, salon, car rentals, bike hire and specially qbook. Qbook is located in the reception and they can help to organised all your activities during the stay. they are great.
We had a pretty good experience at the Double Tree by Hilton. Stacks Pub which was on location was probably our favourite place to dine! We were a little disappointed with how far from the city it was - we thought it would be a little closer but other than that we had a great experience!
Awful rooms in an ugly building. Cramped room with low ceiling. Bedroom is a windowless box. Not a single drawer, ridiculously small hanging space. Bathroom is so small that only one person can fit at a time. The shower is over the tiny bath that is so narrow you can not stand with your feet flat. The room faced west with fixed glass so the room overheats. The air conditioner is inadequate. The only opening window opens directly onto the air conditioning unit outside, which completely fills the tiny balcony so the space is completely unusable. The decor of the room is late 1990s boudoir/brothel, tired and depressing. The public areas of the hotel equally ugly. The whole experience was institutional. We left as soon as could.
Upon checking in we were allocated an 'accessible' room which seemed unusual since neither of us had special needs. After rectifying this (only by requesting to speak to the Duty Manager) we went up to our room. Whilst the room was nice, the bathroom was TINY. The shower curtain didn't come anywhere close to the ground so the water flooded the tiny bathroom every time you took a shower. So again, we went to go down to reception to rectify this. We were told we had to change rooms - which I hate having to do as a "solution" to THEIR problem. Why should we have to do this when it's not even our fault? Alas it really was the only solution. Finally we got into a decent room and had a good night sleep. The following day we read the hotel room compendium and learnt there was a pool/spa on level two. So off we went to level two to try and find it - with no success. We picked up the phone in the corridor and asked reception where it was located. Level 2 he said. Gee, thanks! We gave up and went down to ask the same man at reception and he said it was in the other Hilton hotel across the laneway and that it would incur a change. We couldn't believe our ears. Why didn't he just tell us this at check in or on the phone? Because they employ staff who cannot operate with any sense of logic, that's why. I can't help but feel every aspect of our stay was excruciatingly painful. The sign at the reception practically BEGS you to communicate any issues to give them the chance to fix it. Eventually they may but it is a painful process. As mentioned, the staff just seem to have no logic or pro active approach to customer service and without stereo typing, I can't say I was surprised. Even reading the responses to reviews from the Operations Manager on here are cringeworthy in itself. Poor grammar and barely making sense. What hope does anyone really have???
Stayed for two nights. Room is nicely appointment. However, very small single beds. Had to catch myself for not falling out. No desk space for work. No power outlets easily accessible near the bed. No food or drink service. Advertised for having a lounge/bar. Nothing, all defunct or not operational. No breakfast or dinner service in the hotel. Rain, snow or shine you have to make the way over to the main Hilton building. Biggest disappointment is the location. In-between nothing. With the shuttle it can take 30min+ to get into Queenstown (one way) if you get a seat at all (booked out frequently) and you need to make reservations well in advance. Same for the return trip. Yes, there is a water taxi which is a hit or miss. Not recommended and will not stay there again.
Queenstown is beautiful. This hotel is well maintained and located along the water. Rooms are large and equipped with a kitchenette so you can cook your own meals. It is located quite far from the city center but does offer a free shuttle. The staff were friendly and very helpful.
