For us the Continental was a very good choice. Our bikes got a place inside the building. De room we had, was spacious en renovated. It had a nice bathroom and the beds were fine. We had breakfast in the hotel, which was good. The hotel has a nice atmosphere.
We stayed in Pau during our motorcycle tour of Spain and France, after a slightly protracted route due to the Pau Grand Prix, we arrived at the hotel and were able to park in the hotel's secure underground car park, which is just 100 yards up the road. The staff in the hotel were friendly and vey helpful and the hotel has much charm, however there are many signs that it is now in need of a refurbishment. Our room, which incidentally was completely circular was huge, but the carpet showed signs of being threadbare and the mattress was at the end of its useful life and had completely sunken into the middle. On the positives, the bathroom has a nice bath with shower over and a separate toilet, however neither us or our travelling companions were able to get the water hot enough to enjoy a bath after a day of riding through rain. Breakfast was good, typical French fare, with the addition of sausages and scrambled eggs which were tasty. The best part of the hotel is its position in the town, step outside of the hotel and everything is within a very easy walking distance, luckily for us as the rain continued to pour through the evening, so finding a bar and restaurant didn't leave us soaked to the skin for a second time that day. If I heard that the hotel had been refurbished, I would definitely visit again, but for now, my next visit will see me seeking a room elsewhere.
we had a one night stop over in Pau and had pre booked this hotel. With the road works going on it was a bit difficult to get to and with very little to none existent signage outside I drove past 3 times and on the fourth time parked the car to walk and find it only to find i was stood out side it but could see a sign for best western but this turned out to be the carpark on walking back found the hotel. On entering i was really surprised the foyer is really nice and welcoming and the lady behind the desk was so very helpful. we parked the car which was free a really big help as the last hotel charged 14 euros per night. The room itself was really nice and spacious and spotlessly clean as i have always come to expect with BW the bathroom was huge and also spotless. Out of the hotel and turn right you are on one of the main streets and your walking in the city it is so well placed. The breakfast next morning was worth getting up for the scrambled eggs were some of the best i have ever tasted and the coffee from the machine was so very good. I will stay here again without doubt and highly recommend this hotel.
This hotel is very well placed for the centre of Pau, but it is looking tired and needs a bit of refurbishment. The room was of a decent size, but cold when we arrived and we were pleased to be given an electric fire. One serious fault is that the WiFi connection only allows one appliance to be connected in the room if the same email address is used - we only have one email, so only one of us could use the WiFi at a time - very poor organisation. Also the coffee machine is fine, but I wanted hot water for my own tea bag. Not possible. A disappointing stay.
The hotel is surprisingly old and need some maintenance work pretty badly. The room assigned to me when I arrived smells so bad, moldy and disgusting. after blowing the air for 5 minuets, i decided to ask for a change: no way i can sleep in this kind of room. Luckily there is a spare one which doesn’t smell anymore, even though the bed is made of two twin sized put together. stay away if you can.
Very quirky old building in the centre of town - easy walking distance to the promenade to view the Pyrenees and the chateaux (very worth a few hours to visit ). Room was very large with a great shower - water pressure fantastic ! Parking close by and managed to get our estate car in and out without the usual difficulty posed by underground carparks !
Very central location. Very old hotel, even though it is a best western. Very quiet and well renovated interior. Good walking opportunities around like the castle of Pau or the promenade with great views of the Pyrenees, if it doesn’t rain... and it rains a lot here. Still, very nice area to visit due to special food - foie gras (I know!) - Madiran - absolute excellence although very heavy red wine.
The staff here were very helpful to us especially since we spoke so little French. The were right there to help me get in my room when I had a difficult time with the key. They brought an extra towel promptly when I requested it. The room was not air conditioned as many are not.. With the temperatures in the 90's thankfully they had a fan in the room. This hotel is very convenient to the older part of Pau and lovely to walk from the hotel to sites and restaurants. The hotel was doing some construction on the front so they put us in a room that seemed to be located next to the back fire escape?? We had to go thru 2 doors to get into our room. But it was quiet and modern.
We stayed in a room for 3 which was large and roomy. The room was in good condition though a little tired. The bathroom was excellent with very clean and modern furnishings. Pau was really hot when we stayed and it would have been good to have air conditioning. This hotel also allowed our pet dog to stay with us The hotel is really well located in the centre of Pau and very close to the shopping and main square. A real bonus is that it has its own parking very close to the hotel with secure access. You need to go into the hotel and ask for the code and they will tell you where to go. The staff were very friendly.
Very friendly, helpful staff. Couldn't fault the cleanliness but the room needs a makeover. No drawers to store belongings & the wardrobe not suitable for a family if staying more than a couple of nights. Beds a bit hard too.
