My Family and I truly enjoyed our stay at Alsol Del Mar. It varied from other times we'd spent in Dominican Republic! It was just right for our soul! It provided the relaxation and Family bonding we deserved. The resort's motif was a pretty seashore/ coral type. Our villa was large , modern and quite inclusive. Amongst everything about our villa, we also enjoyed a large personal deck with a full jacuzzi and outdoor shower. Food was exquisite, whether at the restaurants or with room service. Most importantly, the service was superb! Personnel went above and beyond to ensure your comfort, including periodically calling to make sure sure things were well. Job well done Alsol Del Mar!
If you're looking for a relaxing, quiet, tranquil place this is perfect for you. My wife and I work a lot so this was perfect for relaxing. The staff were super friendly without being overly pushy like most Caribbean resorts. Very laidback atmosphere. The room we had was awesome, The loft overlooking the ocean was amazing. Most menu Items were tasty. The drinks were excellent, just let the bartender know how strong you prefer them. The beach is small but quiet and relaxing, always a seat and some privacy. This resort is good if your not looking for all the hoopla. If you like to party its places downtown Punta Cana for that $35 each was for a taxi. I'm definitely returning here next year. It's not really a place for kids IMO, but there's other Alsol's in Cap Cana that are.
Well we were specifically looking for a place that was quiet but most importantly had multiple rooms so our two teens weren't piled into one room with us. It isn't over the top fancy but our rooms were very spacious, well appointed, outfitted with a full kitchen and dining room, large bathroom with tub and large walk in shower, private hot tub on a large balcony. If you are looking for a place with happening nightlife / partying / and going all night go to barvaro. This is a very quiet and peaceful place and that is what we wanted. In fact most of the Cap Cana area is that way. We had no issues with crowds at all in fact it felt like we had the place to ourselves. The beach I have to say is a little disappointing as there is a Reef that blocks the access to the open ocean creating a lagoon. The Seagrass this time of year didn't help. If you have small kids the beach is perfect as it is very protected. We found out however that it is close to Juanillo beach and is a 30 minute walk or a 3$ cab ride. For us it was perfect and the things that were a little lacking with the beach were made up for by the kind and courteous staff - there are many to name but Juaquina and Jon Carlos were who served us most. Example - we had an early excursion one morning and they both welcomed us in to the restaurant before it opened and had a breakfast to go ready for us to take - we simply mentioned something the night before. Everyone here was wonderful and very courteous. The food was Amazing and they tried to accommodate everything. Again there are not 10 restaurants going all the time and if we were staying longer we might have needed a change but we were all very pleased with the variety and the food. If you stay in CapCana it is about a 100$ round trip cab ride to Bavaro beach and some of the excursions over there didn't want to come pick us up like the dune buggies - they told us they were full for the week but we later found out they didn't want to come to cap Cana. I'm not sure what else to say except this is our last night here and I'm sad to go. Security is not an issue. The people that have postings of problems and crime probably brought it on themselves.
Before I discuss anything I must say that Yimi (Jimmy) the Activity Director is the best I have ever come across in all my years. He works from 9 am to 11pm to make your stay enjoyable.A few of the many activities he provides are: yoga, pool volleyball, Capa Cana bike tour and games with prizes. He is always smiling and enthusiastic and knows every guest's name.Definitely my families favorite hotel employee. Upon arriving we were greeted by friendly staff and a fruity beverage. I had emailed ahead because reviews said the hotel is very quiet with a tiny bit of beach full of seaweed, so I intended on getting a "letter" at front desk to spend a day at the sister hotel, "Sanctuary". Well the sister hotel is no longer Sanctuary, it is Alsol Luxury and Alsol Tiara and the letter is so you may have one meal at the alternate hotel only. Jesse was nice enough to allow us to exchange 2 nights at sister hotels due to the miscommunication. The staff goes out of their way to please. We went to Blue Lotus for hibachi and Ciello for Italian. Don't expect New York Hibachi or Italian, but again the staff does everything to please so the food is good but not great. Del Mar has no gym so we took a $3 taxi to Luxury each morning to enjoy their gym. Be aware taxis and shuttles for activities run on Dominican time meaning 5 minutes can turn into upwards of an hour wait. We had a 2 bedroom suite which was nice and clean but master bedroom was hard to cool. I was a family of 4 but first day we had one towel and every day I had to call for 4 towels( you can ask for more but you get 4). You have breakfast and dinner in one restaurant and lunch is strictly at the pool. There is waiter service at pool. There is plenty of variety to find something to eat and the dinner menu changes up a little. The breakfast is buffet and there is a wide variety. They will make you whatever you want if it is not on buffet. There are families as well as couples staying at the hotel but a small and very quiet crowd (which works for me).. The pool is magnificent but again, there is no beach and no water sports here. We did the Beach Getaway for $60 each. A shuttle brings you 5 minutes away to a nice beach with lounge chairs and overhead cover if you need. There is a bar/restaurant on beach and waiter service to your chair with constant drinks. There is one kayak and 3 paddle boards to use. This lasted about 3 hours but the return shuttle was an hour late. We did the buggie tour for $85 each(wear a bandana and shades) which leads you to Ojos Indigena to swim in water then biggie back 30 minutes where a bus takes you to Playa Blanca. Again the bus was about 30 minutes late so our stay on the beach was 25 minutes. The waiting is terrible but the excursion was great. We also took the shopping tour to San Juan Mall which is 20 minutes away but first you stop at every hotel to pick up shoppers so it takes an hour. You get 2 hours there which is enough because it is mostly boutiques. The bus to go back was again 35 minutes late. We did horseback riding at the Scape Park $69 each. The workers are very nice, but if you want to ride above a slow walk or ride with your group then this is not for you. Still an enjoyable ride. Lastly, the masseuse was unavailable for us so the front desk was kind enough to book us a massage at the spa in Alsol Luxury. It was amazing. Overall a good trip made better by a great staff at hotel.
Lack of a better term... AMAZING. The vacation was truly relaxing. If you are looking for shopping, gift, city life, and etc. This may not be the place. If you just want to be relaxed in a safe remote location. The resort isn't very large which was something I was looking for. I've been to other resorts and it was large and full of people, made it harder to use some of the amenities; Also Del Mar was small with a limited amount of tourist. It was remote and safe. Just entering into Alsol alone; you had to go though a security check point, then to your own resort. Although further away from any shopping center. The comfort, safety, food, and services were absolute top notch. I don't have any children and only visited with my significant other; when I have my own children, I would not hesitate to travel and visit this resort again. I highly recommend families, friends, couples, really any one who just wants to relax to visit.
Very relaxing remote, very quiet resort in Cap Cana to get away from it all. Fantastic views, nice pool and swim up bar, We did the all inclusive package and had terrific meals, room service and cocktails galore, One nice restaurant for breakfast and dinner and the pool bar for lunch. All staff go above and beyond to make your stay here perfect. This resort is more for couples. Yimi the activities director for the resort was so helpful and friendly. We learned a lot of Spanish from him. We did the bike ride to Juanillo Beach, Yoga and Volleyball with him. We appreciated all his expertise.Every night there was a fun activity in the lobby like dancing or karaoke. The ocean here is not for swimming only to take a dip. There is a lot of seed weed that is cleaned off the beach every day. We did not have a car so you must take a taxi into town. The excursions where expensive but well worth the money. Scape Park is really close and a must for some exciting adventures. We did the zip-lining and the VIP Catamaran boat tour. Both were very safe and a lot of fun. Clarisse the pool bartender, Angel the bell man and our wonderful maids were all so attentive to our needs. They are upgrading the resort and in the future there will be a golf course and I think another restaurant. The reason I gave it a 4 and not a 5 is because of being unable to swim in ocean and the lack of restaurants.
Lack of entertainments. No gift shop. To purchase something you have to drive 30 min to another place. Boring place. 3 restaurants is false. You can not chose. Only one is open each time. One of them is an eating place around the pool.
Breathtaking views, exceptional service and definitely a place to relax. The staff is extremely attentive, courteous & fun. Everyone was outstanding, but the gems that shined the brightest were Adonis, Jimmy & Garro. Thank you for making our vacation relaxing & memorable. The beach within a bike ride or walk from the resort is worth going to. Very mello resort.
Beach.....If you love the beach, and have seen the beautiful beaches the Dominican offers, you will NOT find it here :( There is a small cove that is very rocky, lots of seaweed and you will struggle to get waist deep in it. If you walk to the left along the beach you will find a better beach but nothing like the Bavaro beaches. There is a public beach "Juanillo" that you can take a taxi to for $3. Nice....but again not comparable to the Bavaro beaches. Food....I have been to the D.R. 6 times, I see lots of people complaining about the food here, honestly it is the best tasting we have ever had! That being said, the menu is small and repeating, lunch is only served poolside. Dinner is menu almost every night. But great service and very tasty! Rooms....WOW! I really wasn't expecting a huge condo! Ours was extremely clean, our view was off the hook! (room 10303A,B) Master bed was amazing. Yes there were minor things, our hot tub leaked, but a call to the front desk and within 5 min it maintenance was there to fix it. Pool....huge! pool bar very attentive and speedy service. you can order drinks or food anywhere around the pool and with some tipping they will even walk it out to the beach! Entertainment.... well there really isn't any, but there aren't enough people on the resort to do a lot with. Wifi...poor, really really poor Front Desk...We have had many experiences with resorts, this was by far the best! The head concierge speaks very good english and handles any issue with class! Special occasion..... in our group we had a young lady turning 19 while we were there! The front desk found out, she was given a birthday necklace, banner on our door, the dinning staff at breakfast brought out a cake with a huge sparkler candle in it and sang to her! That evening we visited the Luxury (beautiful to walk around at sunset!) we had dinner at the Italian restaurant and they somehow knew it was her birthday and sung to her again!! Kudos on making her day special!! To the people that complain about ants and the stray bugs...do you realize you are in the tropics?? One final note, the little black and tan Chihuahua is cute, but he doesn't like men or small children. I worry he will become a liability for the resort at some point
This is a beautiful resort with an outstanding staff and amazing accommodations. The accommodations are very modern and well equipped. Our one bedroom suite also had a jacuzzi and terrace which allowed us to enjoy the beautiful view of the whole resort as well as the beautiful Caribbean Sea.
