We are charter members of Rancho Banderas having purchased our timeshare in the late 90's just as it was opening its doors. We've been visiting the resort on and off for 20 years and are always in awe of the sheer beauty of the location, Playa Destiladeras, and the intimacy and privacy of the resort itself. We chose to buy an hour by car north of Puerto Vallarta to get away from the noise and massive tourism development further south and 20 years later, we are still very pleased we made that decision. We travel to Mexico to get away from it all and this resort serves that purpose very nicely. Even though some of the promises made during the original, high-pressure purchase transaction never came to fruition, and our annual maintenance fees have climbed dramatically over the years and are quite steep now, it all feels worth it in the end when we have access to such a wonderful part of the Pacific coast. Our most recent visit this past holiday season was perhaps the most relaxing one ever. We spent countless hours walking the 2-mile beach (with sand that feel as fine as icing sugar), enjoyed several meals at the restaurant and prepared many in our suite, ventured to neighbouring villages such as La Cruz and Bucerias and took advantage of the excellent spa services onsite. Even though Marival, the ownership company, had started construction next door on a major addition to the resort, we barely heard a sound other than the pleasing, calming crashing of waves. The one issue we experienced was a major miscommunication about getting a private oceanside table for two for the resort's fancy New Year's Eve Celebration. We have been seated at the very same table for the previous new years eve's we've enjoyed at the resort. The value is good, food excellent, and service attentive and professional. We were promised the very same this year when we spoke with the restaurant sommelier/captain Miguel and each time we spoke about it with him, we were assured we would be taken care of. On New Year's Eve we arrived ready for yet another stunning experience only to find we were directed to a crowded table of 8 strangers on the dance floor! We expressed our confusion and displeasure and explained what we'd been promised and were told there was nothing they could do about it - we had to sit there as they were not seating anyone at private tables. We became very frustrated (bordering on angry) as we felt we'd been mislead and our special evening (which was also a celebration of 25 years marriage) was about to be ruined. After determining that no one was prepared to do anything about the situation, we demanded a refund of our money and left disgusted and hungry. The following day, we visited the concierge who apologized and refunded our payments. In the interest of moving on and remaining positive, we also visited the restaurant manager Luis and sommelier Miguel and apologized to them for our anger and rudeness the night before. Both were receptive, kind, and apologized profusely for their error. We proceeded to booked a table for two that evening thinking we'd celebrate a private, romantic New Years Day dinner instead. When we arrived that evening, we were given the best table in the house, treated to an amazing meal, wine and digestifs afterwards. The entire evening was wonderful and Miguel and Luis took very good care of us. A few days later, I received a call from the resort operations manager Timo, who encouraged me to share my experience. Timo was very diplomatic and apologetic. We spent time talking about the resorts history and future plans and he insisted that next time we are there, we get together to enjoy a drink and a friendly face to face conversation. Timo made it very obvious he valued our patronage and was extremely professional, informative and friendly during our conversation. For the first time in 20 years we were made to truly feel like valued charter members who so many years before were among the very first to take a chance on Rancho Banderas. I very much look forward to heading back there again this year, or next, so I can create more wonderful memories in a very special place.
Geographically an interesting spot with extremely nice beach. The resort is amazing offering professional and friendly service, high quality food and clean and well kept rooms. Not too big resort enabling personalized touch.
We have been here 5 times now and just booked another trip in July. The hotel itself is a little older and some suites are nicer than others. You dont want to spend much time in your rooms though, the beach is amazing and relatively private, there is a couple surf breaks a short walk up the beach in front of Los Veneros. The restaurant is fantastic, always an amazing meal but the staff are among the best of any where we have traveled. They always remember us and treat us very well. Cant wait to go back.
Before going, I read all the reviews of this resort so I knew what to expect. The staff was all very friendly and that is what makes this resort great. We came in and check in was very easy and quick. Here is the displeasure of our trip...we came in with a reservation for one bedroom thru Interval International for 3 people. Our initial room was in the old building and the door was wide open and windows open. We looked at each other and didn't think of anything. We closed it up and turned the air on and boy did we get a whiff of cigarette smoke. It was worse than any poker room in Las Vegas. Since I have severe allergies and asmtha, we called the front desk. We waited outside and they presented us another room that smelled of mold and mildew. That wasn't going to work either. We waited for another room in which had not been used for awhile so housekeeping had to clean it and freshen it up. Now, this hotel was not even half full with guests and we finally got a room but still in the old building that will be demolished and had no view and we heard construction right outside our window every morning. We felt like we were second class citizens and had the nerve to ask if we wanted to purchase a timeshare. No thanks! The good and service was great and that is the only reason why we stayed! Before booking, call and make sure you know where your room will be! We probably will not be back there! We were next to the break room for the staff! Funny thing is, the poker room that we were first given had the windows and doors open majority of our stay! We are world travelers and never have I requested a change in rooms!
Rancho banderas is a really nice play to stay thanks in part to only 49 villas available, went on non high season but holliday weekend and despite place start to get crowded over rhe weekend, never felt like a crowded place, villas are really nice and big, we stay in a two bedroom oceanfront one and was amazing, place feels like home in a couple of days, big comment mentioned everywhere is that there is only one reataurant, but marival resolved the situation very good like this: Every morning, expect the same breakfast, lunch will be same also every day, but every night menu will be different for dinner, each day with a theme (mediterranean, french and so on), i forgot to mention we were in an all inclusive plan, but dinning get a la carte, prices are high in pesos, but ok in usd, so make sure to get a good meal plan, bring your own food or expect to pay high prices; quality of the food is some days regular, some days really good, so you will find some other reviews with complains about it. Pools are small but again you have to remember that those are two pools for 49 villas so its ok, besides there is another low water area where you can get your tan, the week that we stayed, the hotel started construction works on the lot by the side, meaning in around one to two years will be bigger thus more crowded than it is today.
This place is Wonderful. For September to be the rainy season in Mexico, this bay (Banderad) delivered 7 sunny days and beautiful sunset evenings. Even though the humidity was high, the wind, waves, excellent views from the suite (#310), and 5-star service made this place stand-out above many. The chef is magnificent, and there are two (2) local towns...San Pancho and Sayulita, are amazing day-trips not to miss. We will be back.
If you're looking for a resort that is away from all the "tourist" hustle and bustle of Puerto Vallarta or Nuevo Vallarta, Rancho Banderas is perfect. My wife and I spent a week at the resort in late July. Yes it is humid, but we knew that going in. The resort is beautifully located on a small cliff area that gives on great views of the bay and Puerto Vallarta lights at night. It's only a few stair steps down to the beach that extends over a mile in both directions from the resort. It is a wide beach with hard packed sand (when wet) making it very easy to stroll upon. The water is shallow and is only waste deep 50 yards off shore. Good waves to play in. The main feature of the resort is the triple level, negative edged pools that cascade down to the beach. The upper pool is for activities of all kinds (volley ball, basket ball, water aerobics, etc). It spills into the middle pool where folks can relax in fixed, water loungers or just soak. It has a small grotto. The pool then spills into the lower pool that is mainly set up for kids, including 2 tunnel water slides. Sweet!! The restaurant is open air and features an international menu that changes each night. Great selections and well prepared. Excellent sauces and good side dishes complement the main courses. The service staff, both day and evening, are wonderful and professional. We choose the "all inclusive" option simply because of the remote nature of the resort and the lack of any close restaurant alternatives. Given the international menu variety and relative cost, it was well worth it! The grounds of the resort are immaculate. The buildings, though dated, are well maintained. All of the resort staff are friendly and engaging. My only (mild) complaint is that the suites are well worn and dated. Nothing special. If in the future the rooms are updated to the "timeshare" demo suites (gorgeous!), then Rancho Banderas will become a TOP destination resort. Suites not withstanding, we loved our time at Rancho and will most definitely return in the near future!
Our family can't wait to return to Rancho Banderas. Eleven of us (6 adults, 5 children) went there to celebrate my 75th birthday. We all say muchas gracias Rancho Banderas. The kids loved the pool and slide, and activities such as pottery making. Adults loved the relaxed ambiance, beautiful beach, and activities such as water volleyball. The food was very good, and sometimes great. We had three suites. Two were directly on the beach and were exceptional. The third room had a nice pool and ocean view, but was in need of TLC. The staff was attentive to our needs. The small store on site was appropriately stocked, and the buses to Bucerias and Punta De Mita ran about every 20 minutes. All in all a great vacation.
This hotel is a quiet, peaceful resort about 45 minutes outside of Puerto Vallarta. We went with 3 teenage boys and absolutely fell in love with the place. The location is right on the beach on a cliff. The open air restaurant overlooks the ocean. The entire resort is just peaceful. We spent most of our time on the beach, with one son choosing to go to the pool instead. No issues getting chaise lounges because there just aren't that many guests. It is a small resort. The pool and beach are so close,I felt comfortable just letting the kids venture from one to the other while I relaxed on the lounge chair. I recommend doing the all inclusive plan. The food was great and it is nice to not have to worry about paying. You can eat whenever. You do have to sign a check for each meal, so you see the cost of the food and tip if you wish, but at check out, only the tips are charged to you.The food selection is good. Each night is a different theme. You can order a-la-carte or go to the buffet station which is different each night (prime rib night, pasta night, taco night...) Breakfast is just the buffet with an omelet station and a grill station. The French Toast is spectacular! The room itself was beautiful. Very clean and well kept. Not brand new- but still very nice. Overall, I highly recommend this hotel if you are visiting Puerto Vallarta. It is a little off the beaten path (the taxi ride there is an adventure itself), and it is a hidden paradise.
My family and I traveled to Rancho Banderas during the last week of June. The resort was wonderful. It is a small, quaint resort. You get to know the staff and the other guests through out your stay. We did the all inclusive plan and I highly recommend it. It is nice to not have to worry about paying for meals. You can grab food whenever you want. We hung out at the beach all day and just ordered food and drinks when the need arose. Sometimes, the staff was a little slow because of high demand, but we could easily walk up to the restaurant to order it ourselves. The staff is super friendly and willing to help you. The food was really quite good. For dinner, you could order a la cart or go to the buffet station for dinner. Each night was different theme and all the food was delightful. You have to have the French Toast at breakfast. My entire family loved it. Our room we had was spectacular. It overlooked the beach. Vaulted ceilings and super clean. I read the reviews that said the rooms were dated. Yes, our room probably could use some touch ups, but you didn't notice it once you saw the view. Our balcony was enormous and you could sit on it and watch the ocean. Beautiful! If accessibility is an issue, be warned- there are stairs to the beach and lower levels of the pool. Our room was on the third floor so we had stairs there as well. But i just used the stairs as a reason why I could order dessert at night! Overall, I loved this resort. My husband loved this resort. My kids loved this resort. It is a quiet gem.
