Feeling like a hostage right now. Booked two nights. We aren't really fussy, and rarely complain. At check in, we are told the breakfast is NOT on site. Must drive to it at another hotel. Green bands were put on our wrists and we were told not to remove them. They were to verify we are guests when at the pool. There were no other cars at the hotel. Who wants to wear a lime green band for two days exploring? Wifi only in their tiny lobby or outside the lobby. But, there is a stray dog that is outside the lobby, which has pooped in about five spots on the terraced area! There is no hot water. There is NO ONE on site after 8:00 pm. They give you a number to call for problems. We came back at 10:00 pm, and the room key wouldn't work. (They give only one) We call the person, he speaks no English. We were lucky another guest had just arrived back, and translated. No phones in the room. So if you had no phone cell service, you would be out of luck and sleeping with the dog. They have a NO Refund policy. There are no face towels, they will SELL you a towel to use at the pool, they will sell Coffe for the maker in your room, and other rudiculous rules. No controls on the A/C. The toilet runs all night. The place is in need of repairs and updates throughout. When I asked to cancel the next day, the front desk person, who arrived 20 minutes late, became angry and irate. I told her these complaints are not personal. I asked to speak to a manager. She refused, said that won't happen until after 12:30. Not spending my day waiting. I am trying to get my booking company to help us escape. I'm on vacation, I don't feel like it. The view is pretty, but for $100 per night, absurd and crazy.
Not bad for a Parador. Desk attendant on Saturday was notified that our room 206 was not serviced. He explaine that the attendant was already off. We asked for towels but, they were never delivered to our room. Get ready to pay .50 cents every time that you need ice. Wi-Fi did not reach our room or swimming pool.
We had reservations for a 4 day weekend and after one night we checked out and stayed somewhere else. First our flight was delayed so we call the hotel to confirm and ensure no cancellation due to flight. We were assured that everything was fine. We get into the hotel around midnight and they can't find our reservation. It had been transferred to a sister hotel and no one notified us nor the clerk on duty that night. He gave us a room for the night and told us to resolve it the next day with the morning crew. The room was sub-standard with mold on the walls, dirty and even a hole on the shower wall(see pictures) My family and I got sick by breathing in all that mold all night. In the morning I made the staff aware that we were checking out due to the conditions of the room. I was asked to go see a room at their sister hotel and that in order to not get charged for the whole weekend I had to contact my booking agency and have them send on email a reservation modification. That was another 2 hours on the phone. The clerk at the desk explained why our reservation was changed but that they failed to inform me or the night staff of the change. NEVER AGAIN will I stay at this facility or their sister hotel. Worst experience ever.....
no wifi no local phone no good cleaning ok breakfast but not cheap have to pay for ice tv channels ok clean pool and beast view and no supervisor at the hotel and stray dogs people are not friendly and no air in the lobby
This hotel offers an all-inclusive package. The offer I got included the breakfast only and for me it was the best choice. The breakfast is serve at the facility but the rest of the meals are serve at another restaurant in a hotel nearby. It owned by the same company but the food for me wasn't the best so I prefer to go somewhere else. As for the rooms, very clean, nice bed, A/C, cable TV and a beautiful view to the ocean. The beaches near the hotel are not recommended for swimming, so I would suggest to get up early and go to Fajardo. It should be like a 30 min. drive from the hotel. If you just want to stay in and relax is the perfect place.
We got a room for one night in the second floor facing the ocean. The room had two beds one was full or maybe queen the other one was a twin. It also had a fridge, microwave, desk, coffee maker and a small balcony with an awesome view of the ocean, from there you could also see the pool. There was no wifi which was the perfect excuse to get away from technology. AC worked fine. I think the only thing missing was breakfast but at least you can bring your own food and store it in the fridge.
We had a piece of heaven on earth. The beauty of nature, the sounds of the waves, the sunrises and sunsets are for ever part of our memories. Nature's lovers will relax and enjoy a quiet vacation here.
The positive: cannot beat the views! Simply gorgeous. Definitely ask for an ocean view (not a busy hotel, so should have one) to make it worth your while, otherwise don't stay here. No amenities besides the pool, which may or may not be clean. No clerk after 9 or 10pm. No bar/restaurant, telephone. There is a dorm fridge, microwave, and alarm clock. Traveling there is not easy and there's not a whole lot near to see. Still, nice to get away from the tourist for a couple of days. We did have room service everyday, so not sure what these other reviews are about. Front desk lady was nice and helpful. We had to go to the main balcony for the wifi.
Quiet , cozy and relaxing environment. The building is in good condition, clean with a beautiful and simple landscaping. One blue hammock hangs from a palm tree. (I wish for more than just one) Jennifer -which is bilingual, professional and attentive- is in charge of the reception along with Perla ( I apologize if I misspell )There is 2 kind of rooms. The ones in front of the swimming pool ,that comes with a bottle of Raid mosquito spray or the ones in the other side. Of course, the mosquitos are easy to ignore. The rooms in the second floor by the balcony have an outstanding view Our room comes with the basics: a clean bed, tv/chest, small table and chairs, no phone, wi-fi, 2 night tables with lamps that doesn't work, a disconnected radio and a bathroom with clean towels and the essentials. The room is spacious with little decoration. The cafeteria/restaurant is closed and there is no room service. The owner or manager doesn't have a "plan B" regarding staff. It looks like the management likes to run it's business with the bare essentials. Which bring us to the negative side: If no one clean the swimming pool or check for chlorine levels every day.. close it! I have a swimming pool and the water is not suppose to be "cloudy" If there is no staff to clean the rooms: hiring someone in the mean time to do the housekeeping. (we didn't have housekeeping) The cafeteria can offer at least a simple brunch... hire someone to keep it open. I been in many hotels, paradores in the island, and this is one of my favorites,,, but the management needs to pay attention to details, like lamps that doesn't work, locks without keys to unlock it and outlet cables sticking out dangerously from the wall. This place is a gem...with a breath-taking view of the shore and a good piece of land to build a small deck/bar/cafeteria facing the ocean... but maybe that's just me. I hope the best for the staff.
As is often the case in Puerto Rico. people who should know better allow incompetent people to run important sites and institutions. The owners here have an unbelievable level of incompetence. On Labor Day I asked to drink some Coke at the pool on a hot day and found out it was impossible. Of course one could return to one's room if one had a cooler. The sign at the pool says along with a number of other stupid rules, that no coolers are allowed at the pool. So I asked the person in charge on this holiday afternoon if I could buy a soft drink. She was embarrassed to say that the soda machine was broken and that the restaurant was only for breakfast. The sane geniuses run the Parador Palmas de Lucía also in Yabucoa. What a farce! The young lady told me she used to work at the other parador (inn) where the restaurant was open most of the time so there was no problem getting drinks. What really burns me is the fact that the few nice tourists at Parador Costa del Mar have to get in their car and drive to little dives unless they know that the best restaurant in Yabucoa, el Nuevo Horizonte, is just a few miles with breath-taking views, up the hill toward Maunabo and has great food and gorgeous views. What the innocent tourist does not know is that the beach nearest them is el Cocal, a surfing beach reached only by a dangerous winding road. If they stop to buy food and drinks at any of the little stands along the way, they are in danger of getting mugged or worse. Since I live here, I can go to those places but both the nearby beach and the little kiosks or small places along the road can be dangerous; BTW, the beach at Palmas de Lucia also is crazy and dangerous unless you are a champion surfer or swimmer.. So it goes in Yabucoa, a great place to visit if you know someone there but rather risky otherwise. Except if you are a very daring traveler who wants a real adventure. Watch out for the sharks (human, not fish!)
