Pueblo in Colorado grew from a steel mining town into a thriving city. While you can still learn about and see some of the city's history in the museums, you also get to enjoy events, architecture, restaurants, and the outdoors that Colorado is known for.
Pueblo is a great destination for all kinds of travelers. It lies on the doorstep of the Rocky Mountains. Naturally, the active and outdoorsy types will delight in this fact especially. But also for history afficionados, the myriad of museums will provide ample entertainment, and families will enjoy the annual Colorado State Fair and Buell Children's Museum.
For a central base, take a look at staying in the Union Avenue Historic Commercial District, which offers easy access to a lot of restaurants and bars but also to many of the main sights in Pueblo. Book a hotel near the Historic Arkansas River Project to reside in downtown Pueblo near Gateway Park. This river walk shows the history of the devastating Pueblo Flood of 1921. But nowadays, it is mainly a source of delight as it is rather nice when going for a walk or run in the morning, or to enjoy sunshine when the weather is nice. Next up, El Pueblo History Museum is only a couple minutes walking distance from the park as is Buell Children's Museum.
Alternatively, you should take hotels in the neighborhoods of State Fair and Bessemer, to the south of Downtown Pueblo, into consideration. These neighborhoods are more residential but home to two popular attractions in Pueblo: the annual Colorado State Fair and the Steelworks Museum of Industry and Culture. A hotel in State Fair is great in case you are planning on attending several days of the festival. The Steelworks Museum shows how important the fuel and iron industry was for the city of Pueblo.
Should you not be as interested in downtown Pueblo, it may be worth to look at hotels near Pueblo Zoo, which is located nearby Arkansas River, City Park, and the Nature and Raptor Center of Pueblo. A little farther to the west, you will find Lake Pueblo State Park. It is perfect for hiking, recreational fishing, camping, and even swimming at the swim beach. Book a hotel in this area if you prefer staying close to nature, but still want to go into the city for dinner, for example.
You will find a number of 3 star hotels in Pueblo. Book a room in a 3 star hotel if you are planning on discovering the city more than staying inside. These 3 star hotels offer a bathroom with shower or bathtub and basic toiletries, internet access in the hotel, and usually a breakfast buffet.
In case you are planning a trip with extra relaxation, comfort, and luxury, take a look at the 4 star hotels or 5 star hotels in Pueblo. Extra facilities in the 4 and 5 hotels include room service, minibar, on-site restaurant, and a safe.
Pueblo Memorial Airport is located a little outside of the city. Depending on your flight times, it may be convenient to book a hotel near the airport. This way, you do not have to go find your hotel late at night or find your way to the airport in the early morning. It will also give you a chance to check out the Pueblo Weisbrod Aircraft Museum at the airport. Another option for flying into Pueblo is Colorado Springs Airport, which is about an hour north of Pueblo.
