Nine couples had wonderful golfing/touring/shopping/lobster eating experiences in an incredibly gorgeous Inn.Premises are exquisite! Amenities went above and beyond. We were able to watch a beautiful wedding being held on the lawn area. Staff were so helpful. It will remain an unforgettable trip.
One of the finest properties where we have ever stayed. Excellent from A-to-Z. Great location. Outstanding service. Classy touches. Beautiful setting. Walk right down to the picture-perfect Crescent Beach. Use the Inn to spring into Portland or up or down the coast. Can't wait to return!
Gorgeous setting, friendly staff, and great beach for families. Table service needs to improve dramatically, particularly in light of their prices for dinner. My son was asked to stop practicing his violin, which he has done every day while we visit the last three years, due to the "noise "(he plays well, no squeaking and it is not loud). The staff had to relay this concern as the people doing the complaining were too cowardly to do it in person.
For more than 30 years we have returned to the Inn. Driving up to the front entrance is never disappointing and the service is 5 star from the moment you step out and into the entrance. There are so many staff that make each stay perfect....caring, professional and individual attention is given to every guest. Immediate relaxation as you smell the perfect Maine weather and stroll to the beauty of Crescent Beach....sensational!
This is our last night at the Inn By the Sea. We are a family of four and this is the second half of our Maine adventure (we spent the first few days in Portland). Okay, so, it's true: the beach is great (and the path walking down to it, amazing), the grounds are beautifully kept (there are people out every morning pruning), the rooms are spacious (plenty of room for us and our twin pre-teen boys), but from there, things start to fall down for me at Inn By the Sea. The rate per night, and I get it, it's Labor Day weekend, is pretty extravagant. And with that, I expect pretty extravagant service and amenities to go with it. A few things that really struck me: the daily cleaning service is very limited. The beds are made, the soiled towels taken, but other than that, there is no cleaning done. No floor swept. No showers cleaned. No sinks cared for. It's just the bare minimum. You know the 5 star hotels you stay at that truly clean the bathroom vanity area so much that they put your son's toothbrush on a towel that's folded nicely and you're like, whoa, that's a really nice touch: that's what the Inn By the Sea should be doing. Also, minor, but major, if you're going to provide dishtowels in your kitchen (sans oven), please make sure they are absorbent. These just literally move the water around. While we're on the topic, the paper towels, they are paper thin and don't absorb either. I found myself having to use bath towels (which are lovely, by the way) to dry the dishes. Listen: with the view, the beach, the grounds at the Inn By the Sea, you won't be disappointed. You just may be disappointed in the other aspect that they should be paying closer attention to. If we come back to Maine, I'm sad to say, we won't come back to Inn By the Sea.
The staff and accommodations are truly wonderful. The view of the Sound is exceptional. Unfortunately, flea bites and lots of unsupervised children made our stay less than perfect. My college-age daughter and I each left the Inn with more than 20 bug bites on our ankles. I can only assume that because the Inn allows dogs they have a flea issue. We did not go on the lawn so the bites had to come from indoors. Second, they need implement more effective policies for guests with small children Although the swimming pool offered one hour of adults-only time, children showed up and swam unaccompanied by parents during that hour. It was very disappointing that staff did not address it. Moreover, several families allowed their young children (ages 3 years to 8 years old) to roam around the property completely unsupervised. Again, this seemed to be not only tolerated by the Inn's staff, but expected. It really detracted from our enjoyment of the beautiful restaurant patio. Yes - I'm a parent, and yes - I understand that as a family-friendly Inn some kids are bound to be disruptive. In any event, I have shared these concerns with the Inn and I believe they will address them
We stayed here over one night for a special birthday celebration. The location right by the sea is very nice, but the hotel and service given didn’t meet the expectations I have for a place at this price. Food was good but not more than that. Although I do appreciate them having vegan options.
We loved the Inn by the Sea. We have a six month old, 63 pound Labrador puppy and specifically chose this location because we heard that it was pet friendly. This could not have been more true. Normally "pet friendly" means relatively shoddy accommodations and a preference for dogs 20 pounds and under but our puppy could not have been more welcome and happy. He had full access to the property (literally, everywhere save obvious places like the restaurant) and every member of the staff was warm and welcoming towards him (as were the guests, btw). The room (second floor loft) was spacious and comfortable and the property was well maintained and carefully curated to provide both sociability (s'mores by the fire pit on the main lawn each evening attended by multiple families) and privacy (plenty of comfortable "nooks" to sit in quietly), when preferred. A great place with a pleasant staff that attracts likable guests.
This was the best anniversary gift ever :) My husband and I got married here 10 years ago and it was wonderful to be able to come back and celebrate our special anniversary years later. We would come every year if we could! It's a beautiful Inn on the beach and the staff is excellent!
We loved our stay at Inn by the Sea! It has a great location near Portland but far enough away to feel like you are in a remote resort. The bed was so comfortable, The grounds and location by the sea were so beautiful, the breakfasts were fabulous and all of the staff were so helpful and nice. Loved it!
