NH Haiti El Rancho3.5 out of 5.0

The El Rancho in Pétionville, Port-au-Prince, Haiti, is a fabulous property that feels like a resort in the middle of the city. The rooms with an inner view of the grounds, the swimming pool and the external lounge and terrace also give a view on the second and third floors of the mountains in the distance and the Caribbean. The style is relaxed and very tasteful in a kind of Caribbean and South American ranch style. The food is wonderful and matched by friendly, accessible and efficient service. The art work in all the rooms and the restaurant, meeting rooms and lounge areas are original and beautiful works of Haitian art. Notably in the lobby entrance are original works by the outstanding and world-famous artist Philippe Dodard. For those who enjoy them, there is also a casino on the grounds and a spa facility. This was my second trip to Port-au-Prince as a visiting health care professional and professor and it was again very delightful. Once you leave the protected grounds, of course, you confront another reality in Port-au-Prince but it is also important to note the warmth and strengths of the Haitian people who persist and often thrive under the most difficult of circumstances. Although I consider it a luxury hotel, the prices of both the rooms and the meals match those of mid-range or even lower level hotels in the USA. I recommend it warmly and as I will be visiting to continue our university mission in Haiti, now consider my home away from home in Port-au-Prince.

I have stayed at this hotel many times, and always found the staff helpful and accommodating. In particular, Rachelle, Julio, and Astrel were super friendly and helpful! I'll be sure to stay here again on my next trip to Port-au-Prince.

This hotel is very nice and I loved it! The check in was great and the room was big and spacious. Only thing I did not like is that the maids come knocking on the door very early in the morning and I really could never get used to that. But overall a nice hotel and nice bar and restaurant!
Rachelle Auguste is the best host in the restaurant! I like this hotel because is very exclusive, quiet and beautiful. If you want the best option for business in Haiti, El Rancho is option! Highly recommended.
2nd trip to El Rancho to run a training session. The bedrooms are very nice although they upgraded me but wanted me to pay the difference... after taking with them I am pleased to report they understood the error of their approach. I didn't need a upgrade so would not be paying for a room I had not booked. Conference room was ok room could be better if it was wider and not long and narrow but it still worked. However team again through the whole hotel and conference are excellent, all are friendly and I will return again if they will have me :) the food is excellent ..overall a very nice hotel and if you have the time sitting around the pool with a cool drink is excellent...one of the very nicest spots for a hotel in Haiti
This was the second time within 3 years for us staying at the NH haiti el Rancho. We were very satisfied except for 2 items which should be standard for a hotel of this category. 1) No pool towels by pool, towels must be requested at front desk and, if you are a group of 7 which we were, you are told that only 3 towels are left despite being no one else in the pool area?! 2) Having to beg for towels for the bathrooms. We had 2 rooms with 2 persons each and 2 rooms of 3 persons each. For 3 persons only two large bath towels were provided. Upon requesting one more for each of the triple rooms we were met with resistance and explanations why this would be difficult. I am from Haiti, I understand that a lot get stolen by staff members or maybe even guests. But, when I book a room in a 5 Hibiscus hotel, I do expect enough towels in the rooms and not having to plead for pool towels!!!!
El Rancho is my favorite hotel in Haiti. It's a wonderful place to decompress and enjoy the pool. We received the best customer service from Rachelle, a waitress at the hotel's restaurant, Piaza. She also was an amazing Creole teacher. She made our dining experience so enjoyable. I highly recommend El Rancho! You must come here!
