Guest convenience was an afterthought. Guest safety may have been compromised.Eight days after checkout I developed a febrile illness consistent with leptospirosis that resolved with doxycycline. Given property conditions, this was not surprising. The children's bedroom had active moisture on ceiling tiles, a hole in a damaged ceiling tile, and audible scratching in the walls during our stay — evidence of active wildlife or rodent intrusion we reported to management. The master jacuzzi had no fill spout, filling only through jets and filter. Jetted systems without proper fill infrastructure and unknown maintenance histories present a recognized sanitation and bacterial exposure risk. There was a bee infestation in the bushes by the front door. We reported all of this and recieved no help. The booking process involved mandatory biometric ID verification through an undisclosed third party after payment, while we were already traveling. The listing falsely claimed data "is not stored." Post-booking terms included a clause permitting removal for real estate showings and a likely unenforceable chargeback waiver.One dish towel. No pot holders. No written instructions. An app that failed at check-in while we stood outside with children after traveling. A porch unusable due to carpenter bee infestation. Thermostats seemed to ignore guest input.Prospective guests should ask detailed questions before booking. This was the worst experience I've had on VRBO.
