Really reticent to write this, as the staff at Thara were more than helpful with our baggage and arrangements. Unfortunately, this is where the compliments end. The hotel is dated, dingy, and at a very seedy spot in Patong—nowhere near being appropriate for families, despite the claims. Our rooms (we left and came back, as we had prepaid) were all down a dark, narrow back alley behind the hotel. The rooms themselves were nothing special or terrible, but our last one smelled like a moldy locker room. The pools lack any sort of shade, which, to me, is a requirement when children are involved. The absolute WORST part of everything involved a family of very large and opportunistic rats seen inside the attached restaurant at night. The place was oddly empty, though had lights on and tables set up. I counted five rats under one table as we walked past. There is a little walkway separating this section from the restaurant’s breakfast area, so I’m sure it’s infested as well. Walking past the place to get to our alleyway/room on our last night, the restaurant had lots of steel rat traps set up, so I guess there’s that. Seriously, one of the worst/most disturbing “resorts” we’ve stayed in after two years of travel. For the price, I had so much higher expectations. A hostel would’ve felt cleaner. Again, to the staff who may read this—we are beyond appreciative for your kindness and helpfulness—this review is for the grounds only. Hopefully, changes can be made.
The Hotel is beautifully laid out, just a 10 minute walk from the happening street of Bang-La Road, a 5 minute walk to the beach with its crystal clear emerald waters, large, well appointed rooms and a four featured bathroom. The rooms do have a challenging switching system for lights, fans and TV, which is located in one central console next to the beds... though labelled, it is difficult to read the labels and one never knows which way the switch works. The TV was surprisingly connected to a vast variety of channels. There are two pools and include a kids pool. The breakfast is elaborate. though they do have dining options, but, being surrounded by other options, we did not dine in. They provide extra towels for the beach. Like all other places it does cater to a a large Chinese crowd which can be daunting due to their incessant chatter. In fact in our case, check-in too was a delayed affair due to the previous Chinese family not having vacated their room in time (we got our room as late as 3:45pm)
We had a one night stay in an ungraded room, the rooms are old, unhygienic tea cups, old washrooms with average cleaning, terrible dirty breakfast among lots of flies, average pool. A stinking smell all over in hotel where ever u go. Think before u booj.
Pad thai pak, panang Pia Salmon, a glass of White wine and a bottle of water cost 588.50 Thb. Small but stylish portions. Okay but a bit pricey. Some street food places serve better pad thai for cheaper price than this.
We are currently in our 3rd night of 5 and can not wait for it to end. The staff start slamming doors outside our room at 5.30am and don't seem to care that they are yelling and talking in the corridors outside your room anytime of day or night- must of forgot that we have paid to be on holidays in a peaceful place, resting- perhaps they should be more respectful to their guests and keep their voices down or take their loud group discussion to a staff area. The same can be said at breakfast- so many staff standing around just talking loudly whilst you are supposed to be enjoying the company of your fellow travellers- but who can when they are just standing around in their groups being noisy - like we are aren't there. It's very unprofessional and frankly- rude. I gave it 2 stars- 1 star for the comfy bed and another for the location- but certainly won't be returning or recommending to anyone.
If you are a champagne diet on a beer budget type of person then don't stay here! This is a no frills property but having said that, it ticks all the boxes for me. The rooms form a U shape around the pools and gardens and all balconies are overlooking these. The pools are gorgeous and well maintained without that strong chlorine smell some pools have. There is no lifeguard, no food or drink service around the pool and no swim up bar but this just adds to the family oriented charm. The in room fridge is also empty allowing you to put your own drinks in it. No minibar in sight. I was somewhat dismayed to read a scathing review of this property stating that it was overrun with rats. I've yet to see one!! There has been extensive property development next door and maybe that unearthed some rat nests but there's no sign of them now. I found the included breakfast very adequate, the staff friendly and attentive and reception staff attended to all my needs in a courteous, efficient manner. I would thoroughly recommend this property to anyone wanting an affordable break on Patong Beach. This property is in a fabulous location, across the road from the beach and surrounded by eating and shopping opportunities. The Jung Ceylon shopping centre is an easy stroll away down infamous Bangla Road. Love this place.
At late notice decided to overnight in Patong & booked 2 rooms through Agoda - price was reasonable but not great when compared to some other more modern Patong hotels/resorts. Have stayed there before & all was good then & well located to the Patong sights. This time as the hotel is older, all was a bit tired & less appealing compared as other hotels we have stayed at. The rooms are comfortable (3 of our 4 guests said the beds were very hard & uncomfortable), the bathroom older, but roomy but no wow factor. We paid extra for a pool view room but the view isn't worth it (ie if the garden view rooms are the same or better). Had to pay 50% of a daily room extra for a late check out of 4.30pm in 'low season' when the hotel didn't appear booked out. The room rate was the rack rate & not the daily rate we had received through Agoda. Don't book airport transfer through hotel as quoted 1500 baht & got a quality taxi pick up from hotel for only 800 baht for 4 people. Also wanted a bucket of ice - fee was 750 baht. Other hotels offered either free ice or access to self serve ice from a machine. Only had breakfast at the hotel which was alright but not great & inferior choice & quality to other buffet breakfasts we have recently enjoyed. Staff are generally nice except when there is an issue when language becomes an 'issue'. Stay was Ok but unfortunately think we could have done better especially during low season.
If like me you sometimes see a one star and think 'oh yeah moan about everything, must be exaggerated , please read my other reviews before you judge me !! I'll let my wife start with the review ...... Arrived to a warm welcome by the reception staff and check in was smooth. It was at this point we were informed that our room had been up graded. We were shown to our room and this was the moment our hearts sank. Dark and gloomy doesn't cover it, mixed with a grubby bathroom complete with cracked sink and exposed water pipe bunged up with silicone we knew we were not staying in this room. We walked to reception and gracefully explained that the room was not up to standards that we would expect for the cost. We made it clear that we no longer wanted to stay at the hotel to which we were told there would be no refund if we left. We were offered the room which we had originally booked which was again not up to much and directly outside there was noisy building work going on, hence the alleged up grade ! Onto another room which we were informed was significant additional cost but which we thought we would pay. The "better" room was just unbelievable! Dingy, worn and just damn right disgraceful. Alas we had no choice but to spend the night in the dark hovel we were originally given. The following morning we were rang by reception staff to say a room that we originally booked but was in a different part to were the building work was going on was now available to view. The room was as uncared for as the others but as it was brighter and absent of a cracked sink we took it. The room was dirty, tired run down with a hard bed and lumpy pillows.I brought some cleaning wipes to clean down the sides myself. However, that being said, the rats seem to like this place, but more on that later. They do provide bath robes which I thought was a nice touch, that is until I tried one ! It smelt horrid and was as stiff as cardboard but good for exfoliating the skin ! So that's the rooms covered ! Now for the outside. We have 2 chairs over looking one of the pools which would be lovely to sit out in if the paint work didn't peel off and stick to you ! So the rats .....oh the rats were a frequent visitor to our door stop, which we reported to reception staff who looked at us blank until we showed them a picture ! Positives: Plenty of pools and well kept shrubs and lawn. Kids splash area and pool. Good air con in room. Bedding changed daily Ok wifi most of the time Ok breakfast, however doesn't cater for English unless you like boiled egg and toast.but that wasn't a problem for us. Nice staff who are helpful. Nice lobby with clean toilets. Would I stay here again, err that's a resounding no, no way, not ever. If it hadn't been for the high season we would have found a different hotel and let them keep the money. Our only saving grace was a few nights away in phi phi. Not worth the money and not a 4 star by anyone's standards. We had previously stayed in Bangkok and Chiang Mia for much less and so much better. The rats need to go ! My wife has written this review up to now as normally she isn't bothered about doing so from here on this is me... you lucky reader ! I think she made it sound better than I would've the rooms are beyond tired, the rats and this is no exaggeration are running freely in the late afternoon, under the sun lounges whilst children play in the pool 2 metres away. The conversation my wife mentions with e staff, in my humble opinion is somewhat more gracious. I said they're were rats after a night of watching them, the word rat was repeated many times, the staff appearing not to understand and saying 'mouse' repeatedly, well I know a Rat and once a googled picture of a rat and sun lounger, they offered to send someone to look .... well the next night I sat outside and one ran between my feet , within touching distance !! Almost done ! Bear with reader !! This hotel's clientele is predominantly Chinese in large family groups, sometimes the noise can be excessive - this is understandable , I've been away in large groups and have probably made similar noise. Finally ... promise almost there ! I would like to thank Kathy (Jiraporn, sorry if I've miss spelt it) on reception, very attentive and a good ambassador for the hotel ! The hotel is located in a good place for beach/nightlife (had to add that !!)
Unfailingly polite and courteous staff in a great location close to the beach for a very reasonable price. Tour office in the hotel was easy to work with, and the front desk was helpful when I wanted to venture out on my own. On-site restaurants were great for lunch and dinner, but you got what you paid for at the free breakfast buffet. The bathroom was a bit dated, but I didn't go to Thailand to see a hotel bathroom. I would definitely stay there again the next time I'm in Phuket.
This was great..... the rooms breakfast staff pool. And walking distance to bangla and patong beach. Man this is a must stay in phuket. Younguys gotta try it out. Its got its own unique ambiance. Feels so homely
