The hotel is fine and the people are nice enough, it just lacks any sense of warmth or character. The rooms are fine and kept clean. The food is cheap and the quality reasonable, just nothing special. It could be quite a nice hotel but is distinctly average.
Beautiful property. Outdoor pool in atrium of building was quiet and away from the noise of the street. Checked in and seemed there was some confusion as to our reservation. Had requested two beds. Taken to a room that reeked of stale smoke. Refused room and was taken to a room with queen bed. After 4 tries finally got an appropriate room. English is not understood well Not in a great location for walking around and exploring. The main area is along the river where the restaurants and bars are. Not a long walk but very hot out. Tuk tuk is US$3 The rooms are well set up, very clean and you can see there has been effort to supply the little touches The breakfast was good
The location is fine. We had a comfortable room. Good bathroom. Good coffee lounge, good breakfast and a nice dinner. We didn’t try out the pool. Friendly and efficient staff. Good WiFi. Overall it’s a four star place. It just lacks a bit of atmosphere - perhaps because it’s pretty big and there weren’t enough people or perhaps because the inside design is a bit austere. Possibly it was designed more for business than tourism? Anyhow we enjoyed our stay and everything was ok. It’s a good base in PP, it just doesn’t have a wow factor!
We travelled as a couple with a widowed friend on a tour arranged by Freedom Asia. I had asked for quiet rooms since we live in a village and when staying away from home, we are not used to noise in hotels. We went up to the rooms and our friend was shown into a nice room overlooking the pool. We then went to our room opposite, and on entering felt a crunching noise underfoot which was broken glass. Fortunately I had shoes on. The room had not been cleaned and furthermore it overlooked a very busy road. I went back to reception and complained to be told initially that the hotel was full and that was the only room available. They apologised for the fact that the room had not been cleaned. On pushing the point about overlooking a main road, they eventually found and allocated us a room overlooking a large car park which was quite quiet.
This hotel is very well suited to business as well as group travelers. Arriving by boat on the Mekong river, we actually didn't expect this modern type of a hotel in Phnom Penh and were pleasantly surprised. Rooms are spacious, as in most hotels in south -east Asia, the service attentive and friendly and the hotel facilities very good. Recommended.
Last weekend I had the opportunity to visit Phnom Penh for the first time. It was an enchanting and beautiful visit as well as a serious side visiting the Genocide Museum in Phnom Penh and a Killing Field just outside the city. The people were friendly and helpful and we enjoyed visiting various markets, historical sites and temples. Also, the night food stalls by the large city park was delicious and so cheap. $8 to feed two us, including drinks. The main reason I'm writing this review is to praise the Palace Gate Hotel. It has only been open 3 months but is already a first class operation. The facilities are fantastic including large very well appointed rooms, a very good restaurant and a fantastic pool. Also, the staff is extremely well trained and very helpful. I need to mention 2 young men on the front desk who were exceptional and their names are Borey and Bunny.. Thank you guys for making various arrangements.
The hotel was is in every way a good for a business trip. It is a bit dated, but the hotel was clean, staff was friendly and the room was spacious. Shower was a bit complicated to use with several gadgets.
Stayed here second times in my travel to Asia, hotel iffers a great choice of room and facilities with great customer service. The location is best, easy to get in and out to the city especially when you only have a short time. Breakfast is great with local ans international option
Tired feeling hotel in need of a face lift after some years. On a positive note hotel has two Chinese restaurants, one Japanese restaurant, a nightclub and all day dining. Decent mid range hotel. Two big ballrooms for functions etc.
Stayed in this Hotel for a Business Trip. Good ambiance, easy access to main places, Clean and Tidy, Customer friendly, good service, daily room makeup and Decent Breakfast. I took service apartment type room as my stay was like for 3 months. Best part I liked for choosing this is, the hotel provide complementary tea/snacks from 3:00 pm and unlimited beer and wine ;) from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. This is the first hotel where I see this compliment. Also 60 pieces complimentary laundry per month. Inshort, one will not regret for stay here, worth the penny spent.
