We loved our time at this hotel and had picked this hotel due to the other reviews. However, as we arrived from the UK at 9:30 AM after a long haul flight with TUI and an hour and a half transfer the last thing we wanted was to be told our room would not be ready until 2:00 PM. This was the equivalent to 4:00 AM to our body clock and we were very tired. We totally understand that the hotel needs to clean the room between turn around of guests but would suggest they have a curtesy room where we could at least change and take a shower. All we were offered was to change in the toilet by reception which was hot and full of mosquitoes. My advice would be come prepared as we had to rummage through our luggage to find a suitable change of clothes, sunscreen etc. However, all that said. Once we had got over this initial set back everything else was wonderful. Close to beach, bars, restaurants, shops etc.
Stayed here for 2 weeks extremely friendly staff great location.breakfast had a wide selection and all very nice and well presented and tasty our room was large and well cleaned the bed was very comfy . The beach is minutes walk from the hotel and restaurant only 5 minutes away.I would not hesitate to return or recomend this hotel.
We booked a tui multi centre trip, stayed 3 nights in Century Park hotel Bangkok and 11 nights at the Bhandari resort and spa Khaolak . Had a great time! Bangkok was noise and fast, but felt very safe. Did tuk tuk rides, travelled on the sky train( wish we’d done that sooner than the last day, it was so easy!) Did the grand temple visit and visit to the ancient city. Could have done with another day in Bangkok. The street food was excellent and inexpensive. Bhandari resort and spa was lovely. Very close to the beautiful beach and an easy stroll into the town. We both did the cooking course on separate days run on Tuesdays and Thursday at present (so we could get more recipes!) Don’t have a big breakfast that day as you get to eat it! We were allowed to join each other to eat the food that was cooked . Charlie and Tum were very helpful and fun and a credit to the hotel. Kevin at reception had very good English and was happy to answer any questions We did the James Bond and beyond trip through tui, really good! The staff were always available with answers to our questions and very good English. All in all a great holiday.
We are on our last day of a 2 week stay at this hotel and already planning a return visit. Overall our stay has been superb and we wouldn't hesitate in recommending this hotel. We stayed in a bungalow which was perfectly situated near all amenities yet still very quiet. They are very spacious and equipped with everything you need and cleaned to a very high standard everyday by a happy friendly cleaner who always has a smile on her face! The interior is slightly dated, and as other reviewers have commented, the lighting is a bit dim, but these are very minor points and in no way detracted from our stay. The beach is just across the road, there is a government enforced ban on sun loungers on the beach anyway, so it really doesn't matter that the hotel is not technically beachfront. The beach goes on for miles. Plenty of restaurants just up the road and taxis always available if you can't face the walk in the heat. Never had a problem getting a sunbed around the pool, despite the inevitable early morning reserving. If you are looking for wild nightlife and bars open until the early hours, this hotel and indeed resort is definitely not for you. It is very quiet and chilled and there is little open past 11 pm which suited us just fine. The thing that has really made this holiday however is the people, both guests and the brilliant hotel staff. Maybe it's because the hotel is small, but I've never stayed anywhere with such a friendly vibe, all the hotels guests were really friendly and good mornings / hellos etc were common place between guests of all nationalities which I really enjoyed. Most of all though it's the staff in the hotel that make you feel so welcome they all work so hard yet they always have a smile on there faces, whether it's the chef on the egg station at breakfast (who makes an excellent omelette), the waiters, cleaners or groundskeepers. We have to mention Jackie who made our holiday, always smiling and making jokes and genuinely making friends with us. And also to the beautiful Sky who always had a smile on her face when we saw her and Zai who we wish all the best with the baby. The standard of the staff is outstanding! Thoroughly recommended Thailand has so much to offer and the Bhandari is the perfect base to experience it from.
This was our first visit to Thailand and we chose this resort for several reasons. The first was that it was a relatively small and traditional resort that was designed for older couples with few child facilities and no evening entertainment that might attract younger groups. This is exactly what we found. The hotel was relatively small with a mix of nationalities and there were very few children there during our two week stay. The staff were charming and very keen to please despite a few language issues with the younger staff. However, as we don’t speak a word of their language, we have no complaints on that score. The pool and the rooms ( we had a bungalow) were kept spotless and were very well equipped with everything we needed. The storage space for clothing was a little limited despite the rooms being large but we coped with that small problem. The second reason we chose the resort was it’s location. It is just across a very small road to the beach which was safe to swim at but didn’t have any sun beds or umbrellas as they are now banned in this area and it was a short walk (5 minutes) to the main roads where all the restaurants and bars could be found. There was a huge variety of restaurants and we ate at quite a few but had a couple of favourites. For Thai food we likes Phu Khan Lak which was not the cheapest, but had a huge range of beautifully cooked and presented meals. We had a couple of excellent two course meals with local beer for £25 in total. For brilliant pizza we ate at Bella Italia which was slightly more expensive for two fab pizzas and a half litre of red wine. There was also a taxi rank right outside the hotel from which you could get to lovely beaches and local markets for about £4 each return. The downside of the resort is that many of the local trips start in Phuket, and as a result mean an hour and a half trip in a minibus at the start and end of the day, but they were worth it. We went on a local nature reserve trio which involved a visit to the Navy Turtle sanctuary, a visit and swim at a waterfall, a raft down a river, lunch and the a visit to a small beach.there were 4 of us on this trip and it was excellent. We also went to visit 4 temples. This involved a lot longer in the minibus, but there were only 6 of us and our guide, Gift, was very knowledgable about the culture and her English was excellent. We also went on a cruise to Hong Island on ‘La Moet’. Although the scenery was stunning, we felt that the day was overly expensive and did not live up to our expectations. Our flights in both directions on Thompson’s Dreamliner were excellent and all went very smoothly except for a 2 hour queue at passport control inbound to Phuket, which was not Thompson’s fault at all. OverLl we had a brilliant two weeks and although we will probably not return to Thailand ( there are still too many other places to visit),I would. It hesitate to recommend this hotel to friends and family.
We have just returned from a two week stay at this hotel. We absolutely loved it. A quiet escape from the bustling main highway but just across the road from the beach. The staff were so friendly and very efficient. We booked a trip with Island Escapes through the very helpful reception. An unmissable experience at the Hillside Retreat for elephants. It was the highlight of our holiday. Washing and feeding the elephants.you must do it! We loved the happy hour in the bar in the evenings although the choice of music could be upped! The BBQ was amazing with lots of choice,as was the buffet breakfast. Thank you all for making our stay so special.
Spent second week of two centre Tui holiday here in Jan 2018. The hotel has a beautiful traditional Thai style setting with the beach just across the road. we had a first floor corner room with wrap around balcony with a view of the mountains. The rooms are well equipped, provision of pool towels and flip flops, dressing gowns and slippers which you may need as outdoor shoes are left outside your room as per Thai tradition. There are also umbrellas provided in your room which unfortunately we did have to use!! It's not that green without a reason, however the staff seem to have coping with sudden downpours down to a tee. We were on B&B bases and the breakfast offering was very good. The pool is a good size and there are plenty of sun beds, however the large palm trees in the gardens do cause some shade but generally we found we could move beds to improve our position. The staff are very friendly and eager to please and a poolside bar service is provided. The hotel is well positioned within the resort and there are lots of bars and restaurants in the area.
Spent one week at this hotel as part of a 2 centre holiday booked with TUI flying out of Gatwick UK. We absolutely loved this hotel and it's location. Very authentic Thai, lush greenery and ponds all around, it was gorgeous! even though very green we didn't experience any bites from insects. The staff are great, particularly Charlie at Breakfast and the lads in the hotel bar! so friendly, talk to them, they love it! Very big rooms with living area, all wood, fridge and kettle provided plus 2 bottles of water provided free of charge every day. Not much storage space for clothes, plugs are also not located near mirrors so difficult to do your hair! other than that is was lovely, so relaxing. The beach at Khao Lak is stunning, you can walk for miles. Great little shops, bars and massage palors on the walk to the main road. You must also visit the Moo Moo show (see review). We would 100% visit this hotel again, loved it!
Stayed here for two weeks with my wife in Jan and had wonderful time. Being big fans of the Maldives, sadly now too expensive for us, were were looking for somewhere with the same natural, peaceful atmosphere and we found it here at the Bhandari. The hotel looks and feels classic Thai and is set in beautiful grounds, with trees plants and water features - a true oasis and yet only a short walk to the the bustling main road with its shops an restaurants. Our room overlooked the stunning long rectangular pond, with the spouting elephants near the spa - we took so many photos of this view, just magical, especially at sunrise. The room was big with a large comfortable bed, nice bathroom and a balcony with chairs and table, perfect for sitting out with an evening drink. There was a nice cold fridge, good kettle with tea & coffee, free safe and great WiFi. Room cleaning was excellent and the staff always smiling and friendly. Breakfast was nice with plenty of choice, the only disappointment being the cold plates, not good when you want a hot breakfast. We spent a lot of time by the pool, which was lovely and quiet but, if you’re a sun lover, you will struggle as the palm trees provide a lot of shade. One way round it is to use the pool, to catch the morning sun and then decamp to the beach, over the road, for the afternoon sun when the pool gets too shady. We stayed bed & breakfast so in the evening we strolled up the hill to the main road where the many restaurants lined both sides. Have to say, we didn’t have a bad meal in two weeks and the prices were just so cheap compared to home. For nicely presented food we liked ‘Spinach’ and ‘Orchid’ restaurants, for super cheap but authentic Thai food ‘Bar Central’ and the legendary ‘Go Pong’ (plastic tables, chairs, tablecloth and forks but super fast, tasty, authentic food). I had three massages in the spa and they were all excellent - for a reduced rate, there is a happy hour around lunchtime. If you like a massage, your in heaven here. Apart from the great hotel spa, there are so many massage places in Khao Lak. Prices are keen and competitive with a standard dry Thai massage (pressing and stretching) costing 300baht an hour, that’s a whopping £6.80, even with 100baht tip it’s just ridiculously cheap. For a better experience choose an oil massage, either standard oil, coconut or the ice cold Aloe Vera (great for sunburn). At 400baht (£9) you’ll get an hour of deep tissue massage with some traditional Thai stretching thrown in at the end - bliss! After trying a few places, I would highly recommend B.Massage & Nails, halfway up the hill to the main road. If you’re fortunate to get a lovely lady called ‘Rin’ you’ll be in for a treat, I had terrible lower back issues when I arrived and after a couple of sessions the pain had just disappeared - just tell her Neil sent you :-) In summary, the Bhandari Resort is a peaceful hotel in a perfect location with a real traditional Thai feel - we will definitely return!
We stayed at Bhandari for 3 nights and 2 days and in general had a nice stay. We would have been able to recommend it if it weren’t for our experience at the end. When checking out they accused us of taking water from the mini bar that you need to pay for. We knew we hadn’t because there is a very obvious tag and seal on the bottles and we were careful not to take these. She then had the house keeper produce a half drunk bottle and had her manager come and accuse us as well, it was terrible. When we still assured her we didn’t take it she then tried to make us feel guilty by saying, “It’s okay, we’ll make the house keeper pay for it”. I really don’t understand what they were trying to do, the whole thing just left us with a terrible feeling and now we would not go back.
