The summary is that this hotel is to be avoided. The staff are unfriendly, the rooms are terrible and it is expensive for the facilities offered. My bathroom was mouldy and the bedroom was little better.
Nothing really to rave about here, but you can't really complain for the price! Twin rooms had reasonable space and a basin in the room. Shared bathroom left a little to be desired, two toilets and two showers between three floors. Like I said, a good price for somewhere to sleep but don't expect much more.
The entry hall is well decorated, staircase and rooms are of much simpler standards. Nice receptonist speaks all European languages :-) Totally quiet area at night, but close to many cafés, restaurants, shops and 10 mins walk to Marais. Fare is very good considering the generally nice hotel. Downside: The only shower for rooms with shared shower has neither a hook or chair for clothes and no shelf for soap and shampoo bottle. That's miserable and could be improved with so little effort. Please!
Hotel Picard is in a central location close to the metro and main streets. Also in a quiet area despite the fact it is in a major city. Fabio is very good at his job however I think he is let down by the establishment itself which is rather disappointing. The lift is tiny and slow, the hall ways are narrow and very awkward to move around. I was on the 4th floor. The door was incredibly difficult to unlock and lock. The safe didn't work. The Windows however did open up to allow in some nice summer air. The bed had mites and the shower was very impractical. The door wouldn't close in the shower and the lights would turn off and you would have to get out of the shower and turn on again. The toilet also had no paper in it on Saturday night. I loved the location however the other aspects of the hotel would mean that I wouldn't consider returning to it not recommending it. One mark for location, 2 marks for Fabio and the fact they allowed me to keep my luggage their after checkout
Building is quite old fashioned, classical french building with very narrow entrance to the room and historical elevator. Location is perfect, very close the metro stations. Best detail about the hotel is the "Fabio" who likes to help visitors about all the issues. It was great 3 days at the hotel.
Yes, I am aware we booked a budget hotel. As a solo traveller, I know what to expect for the money that I pay for. But this.... this was something else. My friend and I stopped in Paris on our way backpacking to Budapest and got seemingly a great deal on booking.com, with our own bathroom. The room was tiny and no en-suite to be seen, but the gentleman at reception assured us we had a private external bathroom.... only to walk in (after locking the door!) on our neighbour in the shower, who'd obviously been told the bathroom was theirs, too. Talking of which, the bathroom was horrendous. There was no holder for the shower hose, and when I picked it up to use as a hand shower, the actual head came off! The toilet was done on a pressure-push system, the water pressure was nill to none, it was overall ridiculously outdated, shared, external bathroom. Not what we were promised, at all. The bedroom was tiny but the bed was comfortable. The décor was aged but not horrendous, and although we were in a busy part of town the noise wasn't ridiculous either. The location was the only highlight of our stay, including one particularly friendly staff member who allowed us to leave our bags after check out before we moved on. The night before we were due to leave my friend and I got stuck in the lift early morning. We were subsequently helped out with no apology, and told the next morning that 'it happened all of the time'. Stay away. Stay elsewhere, for the money I guarantee you can find another budget hotel without the issues here. Eaten alive in the night too which is never a good sign... Very very disappointed.
Visited Easter weekend. Good central location 10-15 minute walk from Notre Dame, 5 minutes away from a lovely local produce market. Our room was on the 5th floor served by the world's smallest lift! Room was quite small but we thought it nice, more than adequate for a weekend break. Separate bathroom heating and TV in the room. Breakfast area was pleasant. Breakfast 7€ well worth the money, tea, coffee, fruit juice. Croissants, bread, jams, cheese, eggs and cereals all on offer. Room was clean, staff very friendly and helpful would stay again.
Yes this is a budget hotel, but you get what you pay for, a cheap stay in a great part of Pairs. Yes the rooms are small and look like they need renovating, but they are clean. And yes none of the rooms have bathrooms, but there are toilets and showers on 2 of the floors. While staying in this hotel from 27th - 30th March, I had a pleasant experience. The staff are helpful and the room is clean, what more can you ask for when you are paying £40 a night. I was only in the room for maybe 2 hours a day, when I got up and when I went to bed, so the fact that the hotel is extremely basic didn't bother me at all. During my stay at Hotel Picard I used the shower twice, and didn't have to wait on either occasion. The bathrooms were very, very basic, but clean also. All the rooms have free Wi-Fi and large windows that open to allow a breeze into the room. The surrounding area is also brilliant as near many Metro lines and surrounded by lots of lovely bars and cafes.
Although the location is great, between Le Marais and Republique, the hotel is like one of those road motels. Cheap carpet, smelly room, bathroom looks like it has not been finished. Staff is ok. More than once I had to wait over 5min in the evening for someone to open the front door. Fabio is too nice sometimes, not getting we don't want to engage in a conversation, but rather just get to the room and rest. It is by far the worst hotel I have ever stayed been in Paris. By the way, my window wouldn't open, making the room smell stronger. I reported it to the front desk. This young guy tried to open it, didn't manage to, and told me someone would fix it the next day. I spent the whole day out. In the evening, it was not fixed. I complained again in the morning, and the solution was to put me in another room, since apparently nobody was willing to fix anything. Never more.
Great location near metro in Place de la Republique, staff is nice and kindly, Fabio gave me some advices and recommendation about trip and what to see in Paris. Fabio can organize shuttle from hotel to CDG airport for cheap price.
