Good budget choice in eastern Paris

For the price, within Paris, this is a perfectly respectable hotel, and excellently located for transport, close to the metro station and bus stops at the Place Gambetta. And the desk is manned all night, so one does not have to rush back in. The room is basic, as one might expect; contrary to the photos on the website, which give the impression that the bed has only a traversin (one of those skinny bolster-pillows), there are in fact regular pillows available in the closet. The walls and doors are thin, hardly surprising in a small, old building, so any noisy neighbors or raucous late returners may be disturbing.

Small, well located simple hotel, friendly staff

For a couple of nights while visiting the Tenon Hospital it met my requirements. It is not a place for those wanting all the extras but for a clean room, plenty of hot water, a tv and wifi it does the job economically. Plenty of local places to eat close by at reasonable prices as well.

Pleasant local, family run hotel

Hotel Paris Gambetta is convenient for the Metro. It is close to the main entrance to Pere Lachaise cemetery is you want to visit Oscar Wilde's grave amongst many others. The area is good for bars, restaurants and food shops.

This hotel is in a great location not far from the freeway and a very short walk to the bus that takes you right into the center of Paris. The staff were amazing, very friendly and helpful.

A wonderful studio apartment!!

We chose the studio apartment as it had a kitchenette and a washing machine. The bathroom was beautiful and large by European standards with great water pressure. The apartment was very clean, the bed was VERY COMFORTABLE, the best thing about my stay!! The kitchenette was awesome with a coffee machine, large fridge and hot water kettle. The room and apartment security was great, the front door has a code and the doors are all very secure. The neighborhood is very safe. Gambetta is a great neighborhood to come back to after a long day of sightseeing and this hotel is extra convenient to the buses and metro. There are local grocery stores (Monoprix, the larger store is on Avenue Gambetta, and there are two Franprix on Rue des Pyrenees) You will also find some great food stores on Rue des Pyrenees for cheese, fruits and vegetables, etc. There is also a Jeff de Bruges chocolate shop further down this street. On Saturdays there is also an outdoor market near Rue Belgrand which is fun to visit. If you are taking a taxi back to the airport after your stay, be sure to ask the concierge to book you a taxi the night before- they have a service that is cheaper then the taxis that line Rue Pere Lachaise. (around 38 Euro) When arriving at the airport in Paris, be aware that there should be a fixed price for a taxi into the city, around 50 Euro. I would 100% stay at this hotel again!!

Apartments are great but watch the shower

The apartment was lovely - had everything i needed for my stay and was a very comfortable experience. The only issue I had was that the shower had a hole at the bottom and so when I showered in the evening, the whole shower room was flooded with water. As this was night time, I had to walk out the apartment, cross the road tot he hotel, get a mop and then mop the floor as I was wary it would cause a longer term damage and I didn't want to be charged anything extra on that. Because it was in the evneing, ther was only one person at the desk and so they couldn't leave their post and so I had to sort out the problem. So be wary with the shower, I later moved to just using the shower with low power and standing in one corner.

The hotel room looked nothing like the pictures. The room was clean but had a foul odour.The air condition was not working and they did not have a fan to give us.We had to try and sleep in sweltering conditions.Luckily it was for only one night. The only positive about this hotel was the friendliness of the staff.They were estreamly helpful with the baby and providing information on the attractions available. I would not stay in this hotel again it was not worth the price they charged.

Hotel Gambetta, Parisian Charm

The Staff was very helpful, eager to help with directions to sights, WiFi use, etc. The room was small and clean, but traveled in August and found the room very hot.To cool the room off you must open the large windows to the street,which quickly fills the room with the bustling sounds of Paris. The room echo's the sounds of dishes clinking, Parisians partying and taxis coming and going. You can even hear fist fights that break out in the night. For a moment it is romantic, but quickly fades to annoyance. A small fan would make the hot nights more tolerable. Still , the experience was one I would never forget, and enjoyed our stay besides the noise from the streets. The staff was terrific, and you are conveniently located to the metro and the bus the 69 that goes to major attractions. There are plenty of good cafe's and the cemetery is a block away and a must see.

This was a great location for what we wanted, , everyone was very friendly. Breakfast was good and the staff went out of their way to provide us with a travel plug that we had forgotten to take with us.Fab stay.

Comfortable, very Parisian, well situated near Metro, modern bathroom. Friendly staff. We were there four nights and were entirely satisfied. Close to the town hall, cafes, restaurants. Has a sense of being among real French life.

Dreadful experience !!!! STAY AWAY FROM THIS HOTEL

Worst hotel on our trip to Europe ( JUly 2012). There was major renovation happening when we checked in, We have to negotiate through construction workers with protective gears.. Most of the time during the day ( 7 AM to 7 PM) the room was not available, as contraction workers were working in our room, while my personal belongings were collecting dust> When we complained they changed our rooms three times in four nights. Internet most of the time did not worked. Guy gave me the Bill for 600Euro and then latter charged me additional 160Euro with out my approval, Could not sleep due to traffic, on the busy street, as the windows have to be open, no air conditioning ... Quality of linen, towels extremely poor quality ( at least 10 yrs old towels were provided)... Will not go back >>> pl find another hotel and do not ruin your vacation in this hotel !!!

Where's the Coffee

I may have given this hotel a higher "overall" rating, but the Hotels.com page clearly states, "All rooms have Coffee/tea maker." This room did not and when we asked about a coffee maker we were told it was not available and coffee was extra. We really like having a coffee in the room and that was one of the reasons for choosing this hotel. The room also did not have a clock (also listed has having one in the website) and when we asked he said they had none. This was my first trip to Paris and from them map thought the location would be better than it was. The metro was close, but there is not much else around. Once you walk thru the Pere Lachaise Cemetery (Jim Morrison's grave), there is not much to see close to the hotel. The shower in our room did not have a shower curtain so we had to sop up the bathroom floor after every shower. The shower itself was mounted about half way up the wall (about four feet from the tub), so showering itself was difficult. The room was clean and the staff spoke English and were friendly. For the location and amenities, I felt this hotel was way overpriced. IF I ever go back to Paris, I will not stay here.
