Hôtel Caumartin Opéra - Astotel3.0 out of 5.0

My husband and I just returned home from Paris a few days ago, and we had such a wonderful time staying at Hotel Caumartin. We found the hotel online using Google Maps and it was everything we expected. The room and bathroom were pretty good size, their free Wi-Fi was really strong and they had good breakfast. When we first checked in, they gave us this card that we were able to use at the other 13 Astotel hotels within Paris for their lobby snack bar which opened from 1:00 pm to 2:00 am daily. The mini bar was also free, so we had bottled water each day. What we love about Hotel Caumartin was the location. It was located between the Opera and the Havre Caumartin metro stations, so depending on which line you need to take, it was super convenient. The Manager - Phuong Nguyen was very nice and helpful, and the rest of the staff was also very courteous. We can't wait to go back to Paris soon and will definitely stay at Hotel Caumartin again!
We wanted a centrally located hotel at a reasonable price. Hotel Caumartin provided a wonderful twin bedded room with an excellent bathroom.and a great location. The breakfast room is roomy and offers a well thought out range of breakfast items. It is busy at the weekend, but staff are efficient and prepare tables quickly. Hot tea for us tea drinkers and a full range of coffees. An added benefit is the breakfast room is available in the afternoon for drinks and snacks at no charge. In the bedroom is a refrigerator stocked with water and various soft drinks, also no charge. Located in the Opera Garnier area of Paris, the hotel is close to multiple Metro stations, major department stores and a variety of restaurants. The management team is first class, and very responsive.
Freshly renovated (in fact rénovations to the lobby still ongoing) but no inconvenience or noise encountered during my 3 night stay. Rooms are pleasant enough although I found the finishings in the bathroom very rough and quite unsightly. Room provided ample storage space and came with an in-room courtesy plateau as well as free soft drinks in the mini bar. And all these on top of the "open bar" concept !! Personally, I found the mattress and pillows too soft. Breakfast spread is more than ample with a selection of hot dishes as well as cereals and pastries and breads. Location is excellent. My second time in this hotel and I am definitly sold on this chain of hôtels.
I went on a vacation to Paris in April and was very happy with my experience. I stayed over there for 3 nights and here's my evaluation of key parameters: 1) Location (5/5): Centrally located and within walking distance to Opera House, Galleries Lafayette, Metro stations- Havre Caumartin/ Auber/ Opera making it easy to move around and visit key places esp if you are visiting the city for couple of days as a tourist 2) Staff (5/5)- Extremely friendly and helpful staff. I ended up interacting with various staff members, during my stay, and all of them left me impressed 3) Breakfast and food- The morning breakfast is pretty much like other similar category hotels but 2 things clearly stand out front them. I am a vegetarian and had limited options in the usual menu. On discussing the same with the staff, she went out of the way to ensure that we had few options apart from usual menu. Just goes to show how concerned they are about the guest comfort. Second their open bar policy left me pleasantly surprised wherein post 1 pm till late midnight a guest at any of their properties (13-14 in Paris) can go and eat/ drink free of cost. Never seen this at any other property!! Room size and decor (5/5)- The size is relatively small ( but pretty much like other category hotels). Very well done up and equipped Cleanliness (5/5)- Overall very neat and clean place
The hotel is charming, in the quiet side of Paris, Opera. Quiet at night, nestled in a beautiful neighborhood with buildings probably with historical values. There's a supermarket around the corner, a lot of restaurants options, a few metro stations within walking distance. Close to the Grand Magasins for shopping and historical landmarks like Madeleine and Opera Garnier. Pros: - Room is larger than expected in a city like Paris. Well kept and clean. Toilet was also very clean and housekeeping were easy on the toiletries. - The hotel is charming and provide good 1st impression. Found a welcome note with a box of chocolate on 1st day. - An open bar with various sweets and non-alcoholic drinks in the afternoon til late. There's 16 hotels under Astotel in Paris and can visit any of these establishments for the open bar. The 4 star Hotel Astra is just next door. We however still prefer Caumartin as we find it more cozy and personal. - Beautiful breakfast spread. Probably best scrambled egg I had. I really need to go out more. This is despite all is presented on a decent table size. - The hotel also does not skimp on room bar, providing complimentary non-alcoholic drinks everyday. - Friendly staff, they make you feel at home and welcomed. Chatted us up on Paris, provide some insights on visiting Paris, easily available to comply on most requests. Met Naomie, Farid, a slightly chubby French guy which tends to crack jokes only he laughs at (assume he's one of the managers as he seems to be the one who keeps matters going and on top of things), the breakfast lady. Didn't get the chance to bump into the housekeeping staff. Weekend staffs seem to be different group of people. Cons: Despite all the above pros, there are a few significant, in my opinion, matters that has to be addressed for Caumartin to be seen as a first choice hotel in Paris. - Arrived quite early in the day, room not ready, totally acceptable. Left luggage and have a tour around Paris. Came back later as per scheduled time for check-in, room was still not ready. Attributed to the ongoing renovations. As much as applauded the ongoing renovations as it is an indication that the hotel is trying to improve itself, the reservation was done months prior, quite certain with proper planning, could have checked-in on time. For someone that just had a 18 hour trip from original location, we were just drained to not check-in at the promised time. - The shift staff apparently do not communicate with each other. Stayed 4d3n. 2nd day onwards, the lock mechanism on my room door was not working. The only way to access my room was by using the hotel master key which the staff holds. Thus everytime we'd like to access our room, we would have to be with the assistance of the reception staff. It was discouraging to be repeating ourselves with the reception everytime there was a change of staff, what more to convince them of our situation. Apparently the hotel was fully booked so there was no talk of changing rooms. The idea was also not offered on us, rather the other way round. Also, why it would take so long for a hotel like Caumartin to rectify the locking mechanism is beyond us. Hotel Caumartin has the potential to be a first choice stay in Paris. However reckon it will be some time before
I stayed at this hotel recently on a Paris city break. I found Hotel Caumartin a very nice friendly hotel which I can recommend. The rooms were impeccably clean and comfortable with coffee making facility etc. The staff were very friendly and helpful with directions etc. Hotel is in an excellent location in central Paris. A short walk to Rue de Rivoli, the Louve, Galeries Lafayette, with many nice bars and restaurants close by. I will stay there again on my next trip to Paris
Best centrally located hotel. Everything is near. Spacious room. Amazing breakfast. Open bar all day! Very friendly and helpful staff. Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for hotel in Paris.
Stayed here on 30th January after seeing a band at Olympia. I let them know in advance we we're visiting for an 18th birthday and we're pleasantly surprised with sweets and a card. Great central location, clean and friendly staff. Also very good value with free drinks and snacks available. Good breakfast.
In the heart of Paris. Near of all interesting places and conexions (metro, airport bus, RER...). A breakfast simply delicious with a very friendly attendance. A hotel for those that really want no know Paris.
We stayed 8 nights in Dec 2016. Location: 5 balls Granted it's not prime prime in Champ Elysees, but the longer we stayed there, the more we loved the location. It's 2 streets away from the little shopping world - Galaries Lafayette - and we just love walking around there with the crowd. Very near several metro. Service: 5 balls The receptionist speaks ok english, but when we asked her if she knew the reason why the Eiffel tower was closed, she struggled and couldn't really grasp what we wanted from her. The manager Phuong was nice, there was a morning where she walked around the breakfast tables to greet and ask guests on our experience. She also arranged for a complimentary box of rocher in our room when my wife wrote that we were celebrating our wedding anniversary during our stay there. There was also several occasions when we bought snacks or food back to the hotel and used their kitchen when it was supposed to be closed :p One of their service staff actually suggested we used their microwave oven to heat up our food, which was a really nice gesture. Room: 3.5 balls The issues preventing me from giving me a full 5 ball rating for this hotel is the fact that their hotel is really rather old, and do need some upgrade. The toilet reminds me of those hotels build in the 90s, with those exposed pipes. The bathtub was very small, and the water heater not consistent. In fact when I shower in the morning, the water temperature will swing from lukewarm (the hottest it can go) to ice cold. Definitely not the kind of shower i appreciate during winter. Second issue i had was the thin walls. We got room 17, and we were at the end of the corridor beside room 18. Unfortunately i could hear what was going on in room 18 when i laid on the bed. And so i clearly heard the moans that lasted throughout the first night, the korean family screaming and singing on the 3rd morning, and the indian / arabic family that left the tv on throughout my last two nights... Overall, 4 balls maybe.
