We are an Australian family with kids aged 13 &16 and stayed here for one night before our boat trip into the jungle. We caught an early flight into Borneo and arrived at the hotel at 9:30am but this was no problem, the very helpful and professional lady on reception allowed us to check in and gave us interconnecting rooms which was perfect. We spent the day relaxing by the awesome pool and lounging around in our very comfortable rooms. We had both lunch and dinner in the restaurant and both were delicious and great value as was the buffet breakfast the next morning. A very pleasant stay in a very comfortable hotel!
Always stayed there for business visit, the rooms are clean but the hotwater frequently off.. spacious room with complete amenities. Modern with various menu for breakfast . Interesting entertainment at the lobby . A guy with traditional Dayak costume played top 40 songs with what looks like a modified traditional instrument. I sometimes checked in late to this hotel and felt pretty safe for women travelling alone.
Swiss bellin one of the best hotel in the city, have a good room but bathroom area is not good because the space is so small, free wifi is so standart but the quality of breakfast so good. Have a good pool
Swiss-Belinn Pangkalan Bun offers facilities to dine in BaReLo combinations of Bar, Restaurant and Lounge, and provides local and international dishes in buffet and a la carte dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There are several options, cocktails and mocktails are also available in the bar and lounge area. It's like to go back there again ..
Decent place but nothing special. I would echo what other reviewers stated about noise being a negative factor. The pool is nice (but for those who care no alcohol is served). Restaurant was average at best, they happened to be out of many options and what we ended up getting was lacking flavor. All in all I'd probably do a bit more looking if I ever return as we noted several other hotels in the city that were not on any of the sites I explored when setting up for the trip.
This is the best hotel in town but sound proofing is poor that if you don't get a suitably located room, you will need ear plugs to get a decent night's sleep. The restaurant in the lobby can cook decent Indonesian cuisine but its service is slow.
There isn't much choice at Pangkalan Bun and the Swiss-Belinn is as good as it gets. Bed was comfortable, room and bathroom was clean and tidy and everything except for the electric kettle worked. By all accounts it was the best hotel in the town. That said, there were a few shortcomings: the location of the hotel is about 15-20 minutes from town and there are not decent shops and restaurants nearby - so OK if you're there for business but not so much if you're a tourist going to Tanjung Putting to see the Orang Utan; the lobby had a musty smell on entering; the pool looked like it could do with a proper filter; The worst feature of the hotel, however, was the food. It was Ramadhan so not many gusts were eating breakfast. In spite of that the hotel's management thought it was a good idea to have a full spread for breakfast - so you had about 6 cooked dishes, rice, soup, soto, bubur yam, what looks like a cold platter and bread section. All the food looked like they have been sitting there for days and continuously warmed up. I'm not normally a quest eater but the spread instilled fear into me. What's not understandable is why the hotel management couldn't cater to Ramadhan and the non-fasting guests by preparing just two or three dishes, but make them fresh and not looking like an extra from the Zombie Apocalypse. The customer service is passable but one shouldn't expect too much in such far flung places.
I wish I stayed at a different hotel. There seemed to be a party going on outside by the pool in the evening, which lasted for hours, and the sound echoed like it is an amphitheater. I was originally assigned a room facing the front, and the sounds from the mosque were way too loud. I thought I would get some reprieve with a room facing the pool, but there was no escaping the noise. If you're looking to get some rest, this hotel would not be a very poor choice.
I don't know what the other hotels in Pangkalan Bun are like but I wasn't too impressed with this one. I had previously stayed in a hotel in Sampit, a few hours away that was around the same price and expected something similar and this was not even close. The AC unit in the room barely kept the room cool. The hall and the room had a moldy smell lingering. The food was just OK and the breakfast could have been better but like I said I have nothing in Pangkalan Bun to compare this with so it could possibly be the best thing around, no clue.
Staying in this hotel in mid-May 2017, compared to other hotels the Swiss Bellin is more luxurious. Nice front office, spacious rooms and a varied breakfast menu. If I go to Pangkalan Bun will certainly stay here again. For those who non-Muslims and want to sleep peacefully can request a room that is not faced with a mosque. Because of the dawn prayer schedule at around 4 AM and usually the call to prayer is loud.
