Last Year we watched from New Jersey with fear and awe as our favorite escape in the world was placed in the direct path of fissure 8 in the Leilani Estates eruption. The very thing that initially drew us to this area and ultimately The Kimos Ohanas Bed and Breakfast was now threatening to destroy it.... flowing lava. Five years ago we wanted to experience the Kileau volcano and found what was to become our home away from home. The Kimos Ohanas was a new bed and breakfast in the Pahoa area and seemed a great choice . What we found was a beautiful oasis run by the most creative, kind and loving couple imaginable. The Jim's welcomed us into their home and made us feel like family from our very first visit. From the singing couqi frogs serenading you in the outdoor shower after a long day exploring, to waking up with the omg amazing homemade lilikoi monkey bread, this bed and breakfast is the ultimate in Hawaiian relaxaction. As we drove away last year after several repeat visits, I felt like I was leaving my family. Had I known what they would be facing in the months to come, it would have been impossible to leave them. We watched from thousands of miles away as they faced losing their business but more importantly their home and could do nothing to help them but pray. Last week an absolute dream came true when we drove into the Kimos Ohanas driveway to find the Jims waiting to welcome us with huge smiles and hugs. Not only has The Kimos Ohanas survived , but so has the warmth love and spirit of the two most wonderful friends we have made in all our journeys. Leilni Estates has changed, but to see those changes through the eyes of those that lived through it is one of the most humbling yet exciting experiences of my lifetime. If you have the oppotrtunity to visit Pahoa, make a night or two at The Kimos Ohanas a part of the adventure, you won't regret it!!!!

I was able to spend a few lovely nights at the Kimos' Ohanas B&B in the beginning of February 2019. I was blown away by this little, jungle B&B and the amazing owners, Jim and Jim. I feel like I haven't gushed about a hotel/B&B before, but I'm definitely doing it now. The property is gorgeous and meticulously taken care of. The rooms are very comfortable, clean, and the amenities are wonderful. One of the suites has an outdoor shower and it is lovely. The beds are so comfortable that my cousin didn't want to get out of his. The breakfasts are varied and scrumptious. Every day has a different menu and includes lost of homemade goodies like sumatran cherry jam and passionfruit butter. YUM! Just wait for the monkey bread breakfast! Now onto the second part of my review's title. Jim and Jim know nearly everything about everything when it comes to the big island. One Jim has incredible geological knowledge and, seeing as their B&B is only 1.5 miles from Fissure 8, it's fascinating to hear him expound on the intricacies of the recent eruptions. The other Jim has intimate knowledge of all of the plants and animals of the area and curates all of their gardens on the property. He is so passionate about the area and has so many stories to tell. You'd be so surprised to learn about how many of the plants and animals you see in Hawaii that are not endemic. Super interesting! I highly recommend staying at this B&B if you get the chance. Everything lends itself to getting a great experience. It's in a very quiet neighborhood. The scenery is amazing. You're short drives away from Hilo, Volcano National Park, numerous beaches, and some of the freshest lava floes on Earth. A magical experience with phenomenal hosts.

We stayed with Jim and Jim for one night on the big island while we toured the volcano, before it erupted six weeks later We hope and pray that your beautiful home has been spared, it truly was a wonderful place and very gracious hosts Loved all the jelly!

We were staying in a resort in Kona and decided to double book a room over on the Hilo side rather than drive back and forth. After checking trip advisor, we choose Kimos' Ohanas based on the reviews. We absolutely loved our stay with Jim and Jim, who are very friendly and helpful. The breakfasts were exquisite, as was every detail of the property and experience as a whole. We were lulled to sleep every night by the beautiful songs of the frogs and other wild life. The peaceful sounds of nature allow total relaxation. It is far enough away from the hustle and bustle of Hilo and situated within a few minutes of the natural hot ponds. And farther down the road you can hike or ride a bike to the recent lava flow out to the ocean. Pahoa is about 10 minutes away and offers a variety of local restaurants. We got lots of good tips from Jim on what to do and see, so we didn't have to immerse ourselves in a guide book. We had an especially fun time at Uncle Roberts on Wednesday night. If you prefer a characterless and clinical motel or hotel then this may not be the place for you. On the other hand, if you fancy spending some time in a relaxing location with a real character and great breakfasts then this is the one!  My wife and i would highly recommend the Kimos' Ohanas when you are staying on that side of the island. We will definitely be staying there again when we return to the big island

This is my third trip tp Hawaii and the stay at The Kimos Ohana was the best ever. Both hosts are super nice and check in was super easy. The room is cozy, breakfast is awesome and the surroundings make your stay to be one in paradise. At the price point, the hosts had a lot to offer....from rental ponchos, umbrella, sunscreen, beach towels for free. There is a microwave to bring in your take away meals and eat on Lanai. Parking is ample. I am going to stay here next time I visit Big Island. Thank you Jim and Jim!

I highly recommend "the Jims" to everybody spending time on Big Island. Our room was small but very cozy with a wonderful lanai. The garden is simply beautiful. The breakfast is delicious and is presented to you by Jim in a proud way just like in a high class hotel. During breakfast you sit together with the other guests and the Jims. Talking to them was so much fun that it was almost noon when we left the B&B. Totally worth it! We would like to thank our hosts again for the wonderful time we spend at their Ohana. Aloha! R&T

After last year having traveled alone and having stayed at the Kimos' Ohanas for five nights, this year I have returned again for five nights, but this time with the complete family of five people, so that we had booked all three rooms. As I hoped and expected from my last year's experience: Absolutely perfect. It is hard to add new aspects to all the highly earned positive reviews written by the other reviewers: Great hosts, great breakfeast, great garden - Great place to stay!

Jim & Jim are the friendliest hosts. They leave you alone if you want to be left alone, but are great conversationalists with good stories to tell of of how they got here. Jim the people person is outgoing as anything, while Jim the cook and general caretaker is a bit more reserved, but still amazingly friendly. This place is perfect for the lava boat tours. We only stayed on night, but in retrospect, I would have loved to spend 2-3 days. There is a lot to do around this area, including Volcanoes National Park and geothermal hot springs. This place is both quaint yet has all the right touches (e.g., Egyptian cotton towels). The grounds are beautiful, and it felt like we were out in the jungle. A rainstorm came in through the night, which was incredibly pleasant. It did cause the LOUD Puerto Rican frogs to chirp louder, but they put me to sleep. It reminded me of Costa Rica. Breakfast was amazing and 100% home made, and timed well -- right after you get back from the early morning lava boat tour. As part of breakfast, we even had home made cherry jam, from two trees on the property (Surinam & Brazilian -- who knew cherry trees grew in Hawaii? -- very different flavors), and you can purchase them for a great take home gift as well. The Jims also have good dinner recommendations. If you like cats, you'll be right at home. While they don't come into your rooms, there are 5-6 great cats that roam the place. We don't often stay at B&Bs, because my wife likes a private bathroom, but this was perfect, and the price is quite reasonable. Thanks for the great stay! Next time we'll stay longer.

Beautiful B&B in Pahoa. We had the king room with the private bath. Very clean and comfortable and the couple who are the hosts are lovely and very helpful. We only were there one night but I wouldn't hesitate to stay more to further explore the volcano area and Hilo side of the island in more depth. The garden is lush and it feels very homey and yet there is definitely standards which are kept for this small inn.

Jim and Jim are meticulous BnB hosts. The accomodations are lovely. My favorite thing though is how they can answer questions and explain anything about the island at breakfast, or anytime, they are a wealth of local knowledge and very friendly, willing to take time to talk to you.
