My husband and I recently spent a few nights at Elk Trace Bed & Breakfast in Pagosa Springs and there, among the grassy fields, grazing horses, friendly dogs and engaging people, we found true tranquility. Elk Trace is off the beaten track but is still very convenient to downtown Pagosa Springs. Our room was quite comfortable (we had a king-sized bed), the breakfast was made by our hosts each morning and wine awaited us on the kitchen counter in the evenings. If you don't like the thought of sharing a bathroom with another couple this might not be the place for you. But, from our experience, you can easily make the shared bathroom experience work. Other guests we met at Elk Trace come back regularly. We will likely be among them.
My husband and I spent 1 night here. The house is beautifully decorated; it could be in a magazine! I would like to share that it is further away from the city than I realized. Have to drive on dirt roads that aren’t lit. I also missed air conditioning as we arrived on a hot afternoon and the room was closed up. It did however cool down nicely for sleeping. Lovely hostess.
We stayed at the Elk Trace B&B on our way north. What a lovely surprise! We stayed in the bunkhouse and it was very nice. Queen bed in one room, futon and pullout in another- perfect for a family. Tom and Evelyn's home is beautiful! She is a gracious host and made us feel so welcome. The pictures do not show enough. Large seating area downstairs for visiting. Huge dining table in front of glass doors, windows and copper embossed fireplace. Outside is a huge wraparound porch with more seating areas. Tom and Evelyn have 3 dogs but our 2 were made welcome. Evelyn made a huge breakfast and there were options for every diet. No one should go away hungry. This is a jewel of a B&B!
It was the BEST place I have ever stayed. I love the outdoors and you really are away from the city. Every room was amazing. We love the bunk house because it is private. Evelyn is an excellent host and cook. She will do anything to make your stay the best. This is my second time staying there. It feels like home. Thanks Evelyn and Tom.
My wife and I stayed at Elk Trace for only one night moving on to the Wyndham Resorts in Pagosa Springs. Wish we could have stayed the whole three nights here. This place is a find. It is quiet, peaceful, beautiful I can run out of adjectives. Surrounded by pastures and horses, a couple of dogs, it is so relaxing, you don't want to leave the porch. Tom and Evelyn are great hosts and provided a large tasty breakfast in the morning. We had been "on the road" for almost 3 weeks so this was just the place we needed to be to stop and smell the roses. A can't miss place!
My husband and I spent two nights at Elk Trace. The mountain view on the way is absolutely beautiful. It's about 10 minutes from Pagosa Springs and well worth the extra few minutes. We stayed in the Wolf room which had the most COMFORTABLE bed ever. Evelyn cooked us delicious omelettes for breakfast and offered us a glass of wine when we came back for the evening. I enjoyed walking around looking at all the beautiful decor. Max (the part wolf dog) was very friendly. This place is highly recommended and I would love to stay there again.
My wife and I were looking for a peaceful place to stay in the Pagosa Springs area. We nailed it when we found Elktrace B&B. It's just a couple of miles off the beaten trail. It's worth the few dollars more than you might pay for the local discount chain. Scenery is breathtaking. The host was extremely accommodating and helpful. Our room was out of this world, and breakfast was amazing. This is the perfect getaway for a couple looking for a romantic, secluded stay.
We were lucky enough to get a room at Elktrace this week on our drive from Silverthorne to Santa Fe. What a wonderful surprise! An exquisitely comfortable room, gorgeous vistas from the deck over their incredible grounds, amazing breakfast. The lodge common areas are some of the best appointed we have ever seen. Location is idyllic - wildlife, birds, horses and cattle. We will try to go again, this time maybe in the fall. It must be glorious.
We left two voice messages with Evelyn Jones @ the phone # listed on their website. We never received a call back! VERY POOR customer service!!! There is no reason for them to not regularly check their voice mail. Also, their website even says "Call for reservations" and "Call for directions!"
This was the perfect place for my family and I to spend part of our spring break vacation. We rented the cottage that was not attached to the main lodge, it was perfect for my family of 5. Thank you so much to Evelyn for allowing us to enjoy your gorgeous peace of heaven and for the delicious breakfasts, we will definitely be back!!
