First Hotel Grims Grenka

4.5 out of 5.0

We had the Loft Suite which is the largest in the hotel, it was very roomy and comfortable I believe the hotel in general is designed for business and romantic travelers however I was with my family and we were very comfortable and quite pleased with the hotel. One of the best breakfast spreads I've seen...

Had an excellent flight on Norwegian Air, efficient 20 min airport express train to Oslo central station. Short walk to hotel. Hotel is very chic, but dark interior. Had Summer Room, which turned out to be Standard. Very small room, tiny bathroom with shower that leaked all over, even toilet roll because holder was stupidly placed next to shower door. Tried for upgrade but room not available. Breakfast was outstanding with exceptional service. Breakfast was best aspect of our stay at Grims Grenka Oslo.

The hotel is located within walking distance of the train station. My husband and I arrived late on a rainy weekend evening, and the downtown seemed closed up for the night. The minimalist lobby is lit with sexy purplish lighting, but seemed gloomy on this rainy night. During our two- night stay the roof top bar and the downstairs bar were closed. The hotel seemed empty and the front desk staff lethargic. The room was contemporary with under-the-bed lighting, and very little overhead lighting. The goose neck wall mounted reading lamps next to the bed were both broken. To read, one would have to climb under the bed or bathroom sink, where there was another under-mount light. There was only a small make-up mirror in the bathroom, and the shower door opened INTO the shower which was only 4 square feet. Not being familiar with the contemporary shower controls, one could easily get trapped in the shower with scalding hot water. The shower was clearly meant for someone weighing no more than 120 pounds. The room was very clean though and a good size. The bed was comfy too. Good breakfast variety.

The hotel is in a downtown location, and seemed pretty empty on the weekend my husband and I were there. The lobby looks just like in the picture shown on the website- dark with purple lighting. The woman working the desk was adequate but didn't ask if we needed a map or recommendations for dinner. The bar and restaurant and rooftop bar were all closed. The room was of a contemporary design, with mood lighting under the bed, under the desk and under the bathroom sink. Very little overhead lighting. The reading lights on either side of the bed were broken so if you really wanted to read before bed, you had to sit under the bathroom counter! The bathroom is small, there is only a small make up mirror, unlit, and the shower stall is barely 4 square feet. The shower door opens INTO the stall so a person weighing more than 120 pounds would have much difficulty getting into the shower. The breakfast buffet was very nice and generous. For the price, this was a nice clean hotel. The train station is about a 20 minute walk away. We enjoyed the National Museum and the park with all the Vigeland sculptures and took the bus. The Museums are free on Sundays so no need to buy the pass that lets you into all the Oslo attractions.

My time at Grims Grenka was lovely. The hotel was conveniently located near the central station and close enough to downtown that its easy to walk most places you want to go in Oslo. The rooms were clean and comfortable but you need to like modern design. The only flaw of the room was the shower, while the shower itself was amazing it splashed a good deal into the bathroom floor when using it. The staff was very helpful and nice and the free breakfast was delicious. I would stay there again

The hotel premises are very well kept and look just like they do in the hotel pictures. The food at the hotel's restaurant was great and the staff, in general, was gracious and helpful. The only the hotel lacked was a concierge or at least someone in the front desk trained to provide suggestions for people new in town. We had to research places to eat and visit because the staff couldnt recommend anything outside of the map guide the hotel provided.

Except for the first night when we were given a terrible "upgraded" room ,switched to a small one and finally moved for a very good one for the next two nights we had a very good stay. Exeptional modern design, luxurious breakfast, best location. We only recommend better wifi connection.

Hotel is understaffed (grossly understaffed on Sunday--but this could be an Oslo problem); and in disrepair (probably related to the staffing). But the breakfast is good and at the price I paid can't complain too much...

Really trendy design nice staff. But serious maintence issues with regard to leaking ceilings and broken mirrors. should be fixed in the next month or so.

Small rooms, inconsistent room quality, front desk not very helpful, good location

internet didnt work 80% of the time, no towel holders after using towel, paint on wall really done fast and makeshift... door was broken into and had a taped piece of paper over breakage.. that looked really ghetto and embarrassed me... the hotel is understaffed, front desk understaffed. the front desk phone the girl has to hold the coard in the phone otherwise the connection is lost... really really makeshift. if you need internet, dont stay here.. i had to wait for 2 other people complaining about it first before i could get help.. and then it still didnt work. not a nice way to spend a sat night.
