We used this place for 1 night stay. A nice place with friendly host Sarah. The place is well located. Everything inside is up to a good standard. We were treated to a sumptuous vegetarian breakfast, on our request. We would be happy to recommend this place.

We arrived to this BnB with my elderly mother to be told no breakfast ( and she needs pills with food in the morning) and no lounge ( they were packing to leave) and a shared bathroom ! There was no where on the booking site where I could see this info. And no cancellation policy because when I couldn't stay because of stairs and elderly mum he kept all my money. !!

Our hosts, Stephanie and Norman have thought of everything down to the water in your room. Their home is beautifully decorated, clean and well maintained. Very welcoming and comfortable. We got to meet other guests (one couple from China and a local man on a work trip) at the amazing breakfast spread put on by our hosts. Something for everyone no matter what your tastes. When we left we felt like we were leaving a friends home. Definitely recommended.

Highway House epitomizes all the great qualities of a bed and breakfast - gracious hosts, comfortable decor, a quiet and comfortable night and of course, a superb breakfast. Stephanie and Norman make their guests feel very welcome and informed about local activities. They have paid great attention to every detail of the home, furnishings and comforts. Yet it is their breakfast that truly amazes (and satisfies). I tried to count the number of dishes but couldn't count that high.

It has been long ago but just wanted to share the great stay we had at Highway House where attention is spent to each detail and you have really great hosts. The room with en suite were spotless and the breakfast was delicious.

Nice and clean rooms and garden , super good Breakfast. very useful information ... Norman make us comfortable and convenience. Nice stay because i don't feel our stay is just a deal, more like we visit a old friend .

Everyone's taste was catered for at breakfast including: fresh raspberries, rhubarb, Brie, homemade yoghurt to name but a few....full cooked breakfast eggs of choice, tomatoes picked from the plant this morning.....absolutely first rate. We walked into town to a great pub for our evening meal....all on the flat an easy 20 minute stroll. Norman kindly upgraded us to an ensuite room due to a last minute cancellation. The owners are full of local information and gave us some excellent suggestions for our drive on leaving their accommodation which we thoroughly enjoyed on our way to Dunedin. Many thanks Norman and Stephanie. A great stay.

Highway house is just as advertised - a comfortable house right on Highway 1 at the highway end of a residential street. You're getting a very homey and comfortable room in a warm house that is an architectural gem - clean rooms with lots of polished wood and windows that work. Well-informed hosts enjoy telling you about the area and learning about your travels, and give great recommendations. Breakfast was super. Bear in mind that there is no desk in the room, and there didn't appear to be a common area downstairs for guests, so a great place to stay the night but probably not to hang out on a rainy day. Also the internet kicks you off after a certain amount of use (without warning), which generally won't be a problem unless you upload your daily photos as I do (it allowed me back on the next morning). Bear in mind too that it's not walking distance to the CBD, but not a big deal so long as you're driving - it's about 2 minutes away. And friendly proprietors!

We stayed for one night and wished it could have been longer. From the moment we arrived Norman made us feel very welcome. The house is very well kept and the room spotless with lots of nice touches. I would highly recommend a stay at Highway House.

The Bed and Breakfast is situated right off the main highway as you drive into town from the North. The Innkeepers, Norman and Stephanie, made us feel at home the minute we arrived. Norman sat with us in the parlor and provided many insights to the local area along with a number of recommendations for restaurants and things to do. Breakfast in the morning was excellent. Great homemade Jam and Muesli. Enjoyed the gardens surrounding the house. Highly recommend.
