First impression was good. In a good location and easy to find. We are in room 34 which is classed as deluxe. Nice room if a little crowded with furniture. Bathroom adequate but nowhere but put anything. Same with suitcases in main room. Bed is a king size but everytime you move the other person knows about it. It is overlooking the car park which is fine and thought it would be quiet but it is above the area where people sit out with drinks. You can hear everything they say. Restaurant is very good and staff can't be more helpful.
This hotel is quite centrally located in Launceston so you can walk to most places. Our room was in "The Stables", built in 1855 and was large, airy and very well furnished. The hotel blends well its historic buildings with contemporary fit out. The Bed was a King and had an excellent mattress, the air-conditioning was ducted and worked well and quietly. We had a beautiful leather lounge to sit on to watch TV or read. Wi-Fi worked well. The bathroom was large though small bench spcae for travel kits Criticisms: 1. sometimes the water in the shower surged and pulsated - this should be fixed; 2. modern hotels like this should have power points at bedside height. People use iphones, laptops etc 3. parking can be a hassle though they will give you a voucher for free parking next door if their own carpark is full.
Recently had a four night stay in Room 25 (Deluxe Room) at this beautiful hotel. Check in was easy and the receptionist was friendly and helpful with a map of the city centre area and other landmarks in Launceston. The room was lovely and spacious with all the amenities supplied for a comfortable stay and the furniture was very much in keeping with the heritage image. I was concerned that the room would be noisy as it had two windows facing a busy street but due to the double glazing, there was no noise at all. We had restful sleeps because the curtains were heavy enough to darken the room and the bed was extremely comfortable. We did not eat at the restaurant but every night it seemed to be busy so it must have a pretty good reputation. Overall we were very impressed with this hotel and will definitely stay there if we visit Launceston again.
Great food, service and ambience. Fluffy bath towels, large shower, creaky floor boards, objects d'art, all well appointed and in character. Maybe the tv and aircon are a bit anachronistic but still welcome.
No. 57 is an immaculate room with a spa and bumper space. It has a luxurious feel. Walking distance to everything but hidden in a quiet and industrial feeling area along the river. I have rated the hotel early and have not enjoyed the amenities yet. Excited to do so!
We booked this hotel for my birthday night, and I had arranged a dinner reservation at Larceny literally months before. It wasn't until nearly dinner time that night that I found out (through their facebook page while excitedly showing my partner how good the food was going to be) that they were no longer doing dinner on Sundays. Noone had told me, and while they admitted an oversight the fact that we were left scrambling for a nice restaurant for my birthday dinner on very little notice really brought the mood down that day. I'd been looking forward to a Larceny dinner for my birthday for months, and it was absolutely the primary reason we booked this hotel. No kind of compensation for this error was offered beyond an apology on the phone when I rang them, by a young staff member whose fault it probably wasn't. It put a real dampener on our evening. Apart from that, the spa room was large and well appointed though a little lacking in character. A big space with many bare walls feels a bit stark. Aircon didn't work overnight and we overheated so we had a bad sleep and they weren't interested in the aricon feedback when we checked out. No balcony or views from the rooms that we booked for the spa romance package it overlooked the carpark, not that they had promised any different just sharing for anyone else considering this offer. Check out is at 10am sharp around here, when I asked for late checkout (also a couple weeks prior) I was offered 10:30am. I had to remind them of that on check in as it wasn't recorded. Overall not bad, but not the experience that I had hoped for from the highest rated hotel in Lonny.
We've stayed for 3 nights at the City Park Grand and truly enjoyed it. The room was very spacious, well appointed and very comfortable beds. Highly recommend this Hotel if you are staying in Launceston.
This hotel has lovely rooms and furnishings, very comfortable beds, ample hot water, central location, and an interesting history. It is very quiet so a sound sleep is assured. The staff are very friendly and efficient , and engage the visitor in conversation. If you like a spacious room, ask for a stables room. The rooms in the actual hotel proper are a little smaller. Breakfast was included in my package, and this was great as it included ample fresh delicious berries in season. Our group had an early start on our first day, and the restaurant staff happily came in early to prepare our breakfast. We also had a couple of evening meals here, which were very good - try the home made roasted strawberry ice cream
This was our second visit here, and on both occasions it has been amazing. the staff were friendly and corteous, we were remembered from our previous visit, and offered and upgrade. The room was well kitted out, spacious, quiet and included 2 double beds and a spa in the bathroom. The airconditioning worked, and worked well (and when needed which makes a pleasant change comapred to alot of hotels). Yes, checkout is 10am, but so what, that gives you plenty of time to explore Launceston. While we did not eat in the attached restaurant this time, we did previously and the quality was first class. All in all, it's a big thumbs up from me for the City Park Grand.
Very mediocre hotel despite a strong reputation. The rooms are outdated and in need of renovation (although they are big). Additionally, if you are on a street facing room (in the back) the street noise is very bad all night long. More critically, I was asked to vacate my room at 10am! When I said I was surprised that checkout was so early, the desk person said she found that to be the standard for most hotels. Not so! I recently stayed at the Conrad in Hong Kong and they permitted me a late checkout at 2pm (with no fee charged). But 10am? Ridiculous. They use your first name on check in as if they are friends but don't provide service for a serious hotel. Not recommended at all.
