Staff were so friendly. Cooked breakfasts were fantastic - we made the most of the children's discount which made it super value. It really was a 'get up the mountain breakfast' that set us up for the day. We had a family room which worked really well for us. And it was so warm! Brilliant drying room too for soggy boots. Kitchen facilities were great. Nice to have hot water on tap. And lastly it was quiet in the evenings so we all got good sleep. Thank you!
Stayed here with a big group & as YHA go its ok. It needs a revamp, maybe just a fresh lick of paint (especially in the rooms). The mgr (older man) was a tad moody & unpleasant during the stay but the younger man i have to say was really accommodating. There's only a limited amount of parking right outside the YHA but there's parking just down the road where they charge. The YHA is right at the start of the Ranger path and its about 10 mins by car away from the local village (beddgelert) where there's some really great pubs. I dont think i would stop at this YHA again in the future as i feel there's much nicer places to stay in the area.
Located at the foot of the Snowdon Ranger path, this is an excellent place to stay if you want climb Snowdon and explore Snowdonia. The building itself could do with a bit of a makeover, but it's still one of the better hostels I have stayed in. The kitchen is kitted out well, the lounge and dining areas are comfortable, and the showers are great - which is particularly important when coming back after a long hike. The staff really make this place great: they were extremely friendly and helpful throughout our stay. I'd like to say a big thank you to Alison in particular for quickly correcting an error I made with my booking! Cheers!
Perfectly placed for the Snowdon climb - a great path right from the front door onto the mountain - and with a lonely misty lake right opposite, magical for morning yoga on the beach. Welcoming staff. But basic accommodation and the bedrooms all appeared to be damp, with the de-humidifiers touring between them but unable to keep up with demand.
I love this place, great for coming back to after a long day in the hills. Be aware that you can't check in until after 5pm on your first day, and don't expect the most up to date of youth hostel accommodation. It could do with a bit up updating, and I'm sure YHA will get round to it soon. But if you want a clean and basic place, where you can get a hot shower, and a hot meal, then this is the place! The self-catering kitchen is also very well equipped, and we loved the massive tea pots! The staff were friendly and helpful. It's situated at the base of the Snowdon Ranger path, which is a great route for families, or those taking their first trip to the top.
We had hoped to walk Snowdon, but the weather was not favourable - we went to Caernavon Castle instead. I can see how people may use this YHA as simply a base to climb the mountain, but you wouldn't want to do much more. The staff were not as friendly or helpful as in other hostels we've stayed in. It was also a very busy and noisy place - doors banging all night it seemed. But the worst was the damp in our room. You could feel it when you breathed, and it set of mine and my sons asthma. The external wall was actually wet to the touch. As the most expensive hostel we stayed in (location location location) it was a bit disappointing.
Good location for the Snowdon hike but also near other sight-seeing spots and right on a lake with hills great for hiking. The weather wasnt great when I was there but the YHA has a games room and a reading room so I wasnt bored. Service was very friendly and also had good advice on what to visit in the area.
Lovely location and helpful staff. Kids had a fantastic time, food was great and much appreciated! Room was functional, could do with a bit of a refurb (I know this is ongoing within YHA) and a bit of attention to presentation (emptying bins etc) would improve. Didn't detract from our break, and would recommend to anyone.
The Supper Club means that everyone eats their evening mal together, this was a nice ice breaker as we got to meet several lovely people. There is of course a shared kitchen so you can cook yourself if you have the energy. Breakfast was again served to us all at the same time, but I believe you can drop in later if your wish. There is plenty of space here, so you can sit in the lounge, games room, outside or in your own room. WiFi and mobile signal were non existent, makes planning a little difficult if you are not expecting this. Fortunately we had planned on doing the Snowdon ranger path which is really well marked and probably the easiest way to the summit. All in all, a good value place to stop off.
This is the third YHA hostel we have stayed in , the other two being losehill hall in Castleton and Edale . We found this one to be very basic indeed and in need of renovation and redecoration, especially as at £176 for two nights for the 4 of us , you couldn't call it cheap . The room was very damp and fusty and had an overwhelming smell of urine from the nearby toilet . It's a shame the accommodation was so disappointing as the staff were lovely - very friendly and happy to help with enquiries about the local area . This hostel is so well situated at the bottom of the Snowdon Ranger path which is a good safe path to take to the summit with children . I just also say that the meal we had on one of the nights was very good and excellent value. Hopefully this hostel will soon be renovated .
