Hated everything about this place. Misleading website description. Rundown building. Most uncomfortable beds. I was in agony the 3 nights we stayed. No maid service. Was told if we needed more towels, that we could launder them ourselves?! I do not do laundry when on vacation. Only gave in room coffee for one day, if we wanted more we had to buy it. What?! I would never recommend this place to anyone.
My wife and I are traveling the eastern seaboard for vacation and this was our first stop. After driving for 13 hours and in a hour long traffic jam we arrived to Bay Voyage Inn. We were impressed with the sites exterior and the surrounding area. Steph greeted us when we arrived and pleasantly checked us in for the night. It is our first time to Rhode Island and I was hoping for a room with a view but to no avail we got streetside first floor. Although the room was nice and clean we asked Steph if there was something with a view available. She checked and said there was a room available and she needed to talk to her manager to see if we could get that room. Steph was able to get us a room with a view of the bay and the Newport Bridge. When I opened the door to the room I was so excited that I walked past the dirty room and the cleaning cart still in the room. My wife went down and told Steph and she was apologetic and said she would personally clean the room for us while we went to dinner. We left to eat at a local place and returned to one of the most beautiful rooms with a view I've had. I really appreciate when anyone goes the extra mile for us on vacation, but Steph by far will be the reason we come back. Thank you Bay Voyage Inn and Club Wyndham for the fantastic trip. We still have one more night and a day trip to Newport, I'm looking forward too.
We reserved through Booking.com and were very pleased to find ourselves in room 203 which has a deck that may be just as large as the suite and overlooks the bay. The room was more than adequate having a sofa and love seat, wingback chair and a small table and chairs by the window, as well as a full bedroom. I looked at room 202 while it was being cleaned and found it to be similar in amenities. Rooms 201-203 have decks bay side. We had a very nice time with only minor issues with the deck railing and a blanket that wasn't clean. However, the BIGGER problem was that we were double charged. I just spoke to Wyndham and my cc company and believe it is rectified.
Jamestown is a quaint little town just over the bridge from Newport. We stayed at the Bay Voyage for a long weekend. As stated in other reviews there is no day maid. But it didn't matter to us. We arrived on Friday to a clean good size room. We were told at the desk that there is a service on Tuesday (the day we were leaving), but since there were only two of us and we had 4 towels - we did fine. There were pool towels in the room, but it was too cold to use the pool. Don't miss the Bay View restaurant. There is a new chef and the food was great - we actually went every evening for cocktails and appetizers - the sushi was awesome. Also the locals hang out there and we got great travel advise for the area.
Our suite had an enormous deck that overlooked the bay, which was our favorite part. The room was plenty big for us and our children. Bed and couches were comfortable. Bathroom was updated and nice. Kitchenette was well equipped. Staff was friendly and helpful. Would highly recommend this hotel. One minor complaint was the handicapped spaces (our daughter is handicapped and uses a wheelchair, and we have handicapped placard) - during our stay the handicapped spaces were taken most of the time either by cars without any placards or handicapped license plates or by cars with and without handicapped placards parked so poorly as to take up 2 spaces. I know this is not the fault of the hotel, however, it would be good for the management to be aware and try to mitigate these issues.
View was the only thing good about the stay. Service was abysmal; no room service. When we asked for clean towels they gave us detergent and told us washing machines were in the lower level. They don't even change out the garbage cans in the room. Customer service worse we have ever experienced and gave us pause as to whether we will ever stay at a Wyndham "resort" again. Save your money and go elsewhere.
This place is good for a different kind of quiet getaway. Walking distance from the center of Jamestown. A short ferry of car ride to Newport. Even a great day trip up to Providence on the Newport ferry. Just an awesome location under the Newport bridge.
Nice enough room but a bit dated . Horrible bathroom set up- the toilet is right in the middle of the bathroom . AC was noisy and the room smelled musty. The worst part was NO Maid service except on Tuesdays,! No one told us this! So for almost $300.00 a night you get a fairly uncomfortable bed?.. really? Good location and nice enough staff but I would never stay again. Too bad because Jamestown is a completely charming town!
Jamestown has a lot of superb restaurants. Unfortunately, the Bay Voyage is not one of them. The food was typical for Rhode Island big portions, lots of cream, butter and parmesan cheese on every entree. Two as[ects of the experience were sub-standard. The waitress seemed like she'd never been trained for a white-table cloth restaurant. When she brought the dishes she almost tossed them down like you might be served at a diner. When she cleared the dishes she collected all the silverware in one hand and stacked the plates (4-6 high) on hear arm! She was a nice woman but clearly the management has not been involved in reviewing proper service. Secondly, the wine list was worse than Appleby's. Not only did it have every brand-name factory-made wine on it, it also had wines that looked like they were retailer close-outs - wines with goofy names and labels. We had a half bottle of Moet Brut Imperial Champagne and then cocktails with dinner - there were no interesting or quality wines on the list (mostly American and New World). We are locals. We are retired. We like to support people here on the Bay. We eat out alot. Except for the wonderful view, the Bay Voyage gives only a medicore experience.
From check in to check out we had a wonderful experience. The staff was friendly and hospitable, We had an elevator, for those who need one. Our unit was spacious and clean, for the two of us, with a lovely view of the bay and the Newport bridge. We were in room 203 and we appreciated the larger deck and viewing area. Their are FREE washers and dryers located in the FITNESS CTR. We loved the food served at the attached restaurant. The chefs are doing an exceptional job. The staff there is to be commended!! The prices are affordable for such delicious food. We had a microwave and a mini-fridge. There is free Wi-Fi. The property is VERY close to to Jamestown and restaurants, package store and the Beaver Tail State Park. A very quiet location and very relaxing at this time of year. We will be back...
