This review has been a long time coming, and my deepest apologies to Russel, who runs this wonderful establishment. My wife and I stayed in the Magnolia room for the first weekend of JazzFest 2019. Russel bent over backwards to make sure we were taken care of and happy with our accommodations. He was willing to stay up until we arrived (we had really bad traffic) even if it was 1 am. We got there early and h was only too happy to move his car and have us park in the drive way. The house is charming and full of character, the furniture is beautiful and well cared for, and it is all very comfortable and welcoming. Russell serves breakfast and it is truly fantastic! His biscuits are the best we've had anywhere, and that includes our mothers and grandmothers. And he keeps plenty of alcohol and drinks available. The location was wonderful, there were several good restaurants in walking distance, and the park close by. JazzFest was in walking distance, and only a few miles to the quarter. We cannot wait to stay at Oakview again, as we had a great time and there was very little for us to worry about. This was the best experience we have had at a bed and breakfast. We visited intending to be for 3 nights but unfortunately had to leave after 1 due to our timescales for travelling. Having visited before, we kind of knew what to expect. We liked being able to stay somewhere other than a big chain hotel as this b&b is a real taste of a New Orleans home. There’s always parking available and it’s facing the City Park which is great and has loads to see and do. The house is beautiful. The owner was accommodating like last time and the room was well presented. It has been a couple of years since we last stayed here and we understand it can be hard to keep on top of renovating and repairing a big old house alone as I believe Russell mostly does. There was a strange smell in the entrance hall and our bedroom which may be an issue with the air con and may need looking at, although we didn’t find it necessary to complain about. It’s a lovely house, just in need of some tlc. Russell offers a full cooked breakfast but as we struggle to eat much in the mornings, we asked to only have his homemade biscuits which are amazing.

My husband stayed here during graduation weekend. Breakfast starts at 9 am, so if you have timed tours or events you should plan with breakfast time in mind. The room was spacious and clean. There were lots of shampoos and soaps and things in case travelers forgot them. The bathroom had a nice whirlpool tub, which was a nice touch. There is off-street parking as there is a driveway, but street parking is plentiful around the park area as well. Russel was very friendly and helpful. The bed and breakfast was a very “New Orleans” experience. The location inside the city is great. It’s right next to City Park and the Canal streetcar line is practically within site of the bed and breakfast.

We really enjoyed our time at Oakview! Russell was super accommodating and a great host! Everything was clean and breakfast was great! Unique experience just a few steps away from the trolley that takes you right into the French Quarter. And City Park is beautiful just across the street!

The location was perfect for us and our friends who came for French Quarter Fest. Being across from City Park provided calm walks with the huge oak trees that are so beautiful. The trolley is just a block away and took us to the French Quarter with ease. We had breakfast (even a to-go breakfast the morning we went back to the airport) made by Russell and his wife. Absolutely amazing food that made our days start off right. Free booze didn’t hurt either :)

The place looks nothing like the pics. I arrived for business and actually walked out because I didn’t feel safe. The owner was dishelved with holes in his shirt and old house shoes - and the place was filthy. Tried to get refund but he refused ! I had to pay the full amount for 3 nights. The breakfast room has jars and food sitting out - and the “bar” was a cabinet with dirty bottles . The place smelled like mothballs and the tv and shower doors were broken. He handed me a garbage bag with my towels and bathroom rug ! I stay in NOLA often for work and thought I would try something more quaint than a hotel and unfortunately ended up here. Walked out and had to pay 1,000 more $ for a hotel. I don’t know who is leaving the good reviews on here- but trust me.... I travel for a living for years and this is the first time I have walked out of a place. DONT STAY HERE!!!!!

We were so lucky to have found such a wonderful place to stay for our trip to New Orleans. The house was beautiful! We stayed in the Magnolia room which had one king sized bed and our own bathroom. The room was very clean and stocked with any essentials in case we forgot anything. The breakfast was served hot every morning and depending on how many people were staying it was either served plate by plate or buffet style. This was much more than any continental breakfast! It kept us full for hours and was delicious. Especially those eggs! Russel, the owner, was so hospitable! We enjoyed getting to know him and the beautiful home he shared with us. We truly felt at home. Also, we spent breakfast getting to know the other couples staying at the bed and breakfast. Something we enjoyed!! The house was just across the street from the city park and was only 2 blocks from the city trolley station. Awesome experience!

Location across the street from City Park and a short walk to the streetcar stop made the location great, along with proximity to several good restaurants on nearby Carrolton and Esplanade streets. The house, though, is in need of some TLC. It could use some minor repairs, and was in need of a good cleaning. Breakfasts were good and filling, a great start to our long days of sightseeing, but could use some variety. We had eggs, potatoes and a breakfast meat every morning. The biscuits, though, were outstanding. Proprietor Russell was very friendly and helpful.

My husband surprised me with a trip to NOLA last week and we stayed at this location for about two nights. Russell was easy to talk to and quick to respond when you text him. He was extremely helpful and gave us a tour of the place before settling in for the evening. The room we stayed in was well-kept and clean. The walls need a bit of touch up but nothing terrible. The bathroom was very clean and great to use (the jets in the shower was awesome; didn’t get to use the actual bathtub which had different settings). Shampoo, conditioner, and body wash were all provided. The bed was also clean and set up very neatly. Breakfast was also provided each morning (you have to let Russell know the night before if you would like breakfast via text). Depending on how many people were staying there, our breakfast would be wrapped up in plates (biscuit, scrambled eggs, hash brown, and bacon) or we have to get the food ourselves so self-serve. The dining area is clean- plenty of space to sit and enjoy your breakfast. They had various condiments on the table (different jams, ketchup) and another area to get coffee and tea. Overall, we enjoyed our stay. We didn’t know what to expect but it was an experience and we are so glad we came here. Russell is a great host and does a great job keeping up with the place and showing hospitality. Thank you Russell!

Thoroughly enjoyed the house and the proprietor. Russell was accommodating and friendly. The room was clean and ready when we arrived. The breakfast we had was AWESOME! The room was quiet and comfortable.
