Ok, second time we stayed here. 1st time was really nice - but this time Halloween arrived in force - Arrived and checked in to room 3 - lovely room but not cleaned - dirty towels, bed and someone's paper, shampoo and purple socks tucked into the bottom of the bed. Tv didn't work the first night. - wouldn't turn on - fixed the 2nd night Last night arrived back to find the hotel had moved us from room 3 into another house next door (room 10) as they had wanted the whole floor for a wedding party - had to re- enter room 3 as they hadn't collected my stuff from the side table - lucky the new guests hadn't arrived before we returned - arrived soon after - room 10 was a room just off the main kitchen - so people using it to Make coffees till 1:10am and breakfast from 7am - also this room had no cable to enable the tv to receive transmission - so really unhappy - just wanted the morning to arrive so we could leave.
We stayed 2 nights at the Balcony guest house at the end of a Deep South road trip. On arrival we phoned to ask if we could leave our bags (as it was several hours before check in) and Zak came over straight away and safely locked away our bags for us. The room was really clean and spacious, good amenities, and the communal areas were lovely, particularly the balcony which we sat on for breakfast and evening drinks. The self service breakfast was also excellent. When we checked out we weren’t flying for several hours so again Zac let us safely lock our bags away until we left. His excellent customer service was greatly appreciated. The location was also great, 15 mins walk to Frenchmen’s and 30 mins to Bourbon Street (though best to get an Uber after dark). Would definitely stay here again!
We arrived as a family of 3 (my mom, dad, me). We rented trhough Booking.com. We we got to the place, the owner/manager was not there and the employees had no idea about what to do. They assigned us the suite on the third floor wich had no lighting and a very narrow set of stairs (they looked like ladders) so lifting even a smaill suitcase was nearly impossible. I a leg condition so for support I use a cain...when the manager showed up I asked if he could move us to the main floor, he did, nice from him. The breakfast at the next day was: cold boiled eggs, yogurt, cold bagels and coffee. Not nice. This place has potential for its location, please improve management!
This place is run with the mentality that if there were no customers... i.e. people staying then it would be the perfect business. Management have the unfortunate reality of having to actual manage something. As the saying goes "they couldn't organise a night out in a brewery". When this is pointed out by many is clear that a litany of excuses follows... But no genuine apologies or resolutions. Benefits: Hot shower. Comfortable bed. Good air con. Fridge. Microwave. TV. Location. Free parking. Challenges in no particular order: On arrival vomit smell in back of room near windows. Dirty comforter with stains. Hairs on sheets. Microwave pings every thirty minutes Air con on extreme.... Switch hidden. Huge waste of energy in while building.... No people ac on max. Dirty towels with stains.... Red stains... Hairs in bathroom. Dirty floor mat. Bug bites in room... Drips from AC. Insecure locking system on door.... Even if inside no way to secure door... Security chain broken. No staff on site after 10pm before 10am or 12pm. No cleaning during stay. During the stay.... Worst service ever received.... Day 1 breakfast stale, yogurts gone bad. The staff member tried her best but didn't have a clue. Day 1 evening 10.10pm call from booking.com owner wanted to know when we would check in. We had self checked in as instructions including sending text to say we were there. Explained that we had met the staff in the morning..... Owner then insisted that we come back to the property to check in. Very persistent and demanding. Intimidating. Very stressful experience. Never had this happen before in all my travels all across the world to hundreds of places. No apology given about this whatsoever. Owner said no one would be around in the morning for breakfast so they would leave something for us. On arrival back to hotel.... (we came straight back and had our evening cut short, ruined) someone had come into the room and moved things... This is possibly the most no no of any accommodation ever. They had then put the next days breakfast in boxes on the microwave. Yogurt and egg. In New Orleans heat. Needless to say they started to smell. Disgusting food hygiene practice. No staff available even though we came back as requested. Day 2 no one available in the morning. We waited until someone was around that person had no clue that we were there already checked in or what had been happening previously. Totally clueless. Checked us in and gave us a map.... No explanation of where we were or anything that is standard for accommodation.... Despite us having worked this out ourselves before. No apologies for poor service so far. In the evening as we were resting and no staff around. Someone banged on the door twice... Talk about making us jump. We ignored that as no staff around and property codes for doors very insecure. When we came back in the evening no staff. No other people staying. Day 3 check out time. No staff available and even more incredible this day- today no breakfast at all. As paid for. Honestly I am still stunned about this.... They couldn't even be bothered to give breakfast on the last day! What a joke. Summary.... This is no bed and breakfast. This is bed. I have stayed in better and cheaper hostels. The price is the real rub. If it was a 1/3 of the price as advertised it would be worth it. As a place to crash due to location and parking. But the price means the service is disgraceful. I've stayed in places that have poor facilities but the service means the performance is better. I have read other reviews here and hypothesize that when the place only has a few customers management doesn't feel it's worth giving a good service. If a group it might be better. Ultimately we won't be recommending this to anyone. Real shame it won a booking.com prize in 2015 and has great potential but maybe the success went to their heads.... Ultimately we felt very unsafe in this property. Better value to stay in a no thrills Super 8 or something like that downtown. NOLA is great, do visit! But always be careful of a N'awlins scam this is one of them.
Rented out the entire space for a group trip. Perfect for our group. Personal rooms, fridge, and bathrooms for each group. Everything was very clean and in great condition. The beds, comforters, and pillows were so comfortable. Great location, bars and restaurants close but also a quick jaunt to Frenchman Street. Really enjoyed our stay. ACs were a little inconsistent but worked.
I think it's really a 3.5 rating. The rooms were quaint and pretty. It was a bit strange coming in and checking in at the Silk Bar downstairs. The staff was friendly and I had no problems. Could the breakfast been a bit better? The only thing I would have preferred was fresh cream for the coffee. Seems like they held onto the creamers a bit too long. Was worried about the idea of street parking but turned out just fine. It was only a 10 min walk to the French Quarter and even walking back in the evening felt safe. Streets were lit well enough and there are CC TV around the area. The area has 2 other bars just a block down the street but never heard them.
This B and B had it’s good and bad points. The rooms don’t look at all like the Pictures on their web site. Small, but cozy. It is nice not to be right in the middle of French Quarter; however, just close. Michelle kept them well cleaned. They are up front about not being ADA, but they put us on second floor and hard for older people. Breakfast is not homemade as stated, but from bulk food stores. Orange juice from store not “fresh squeezed” and milk was outdated. Michelle was an absolute doll and so helpful with what we needed. Never saw the owners as so many say they met and we stayed 5 nights. It was not as noisy as many said who stay in quarter so that was nice. People were nice and neighborhood eclectic.
On our last night of the stay, our room's temperatures rose up and had an AC issue along with noticeable foul odors. The manager came and checked to confirm the problem. Moved us to another room #1. Room #1 was like a freezer. The temp was at 60° when we first walked in. We turned it off but it still went down to 53°. Finally we turned on the heat in the middle of the night...but no avail with no heat coming out. We didn't feel so well after we breathed in whatever in the air in the previous room. Also the freezing temp kept us up all night. We had an early flight and we were exhausted.... It was horrible. ;( The picture shows we set the temperature to 69° (in the middle of the night) and when the picture was taken at 7am in the morning, it was still at 62°. The worst part was we'd Never received an apology from the management after we texted them about the freezing temperatures with that picture. VERY BAD MANAGEMENT...we would not recommend this place to any travelers.
We had high expectations for The Balcony and we were not disappointed with the room. it was quirky, the floor was on a slant and the balcony was lovely to sit out on. But ... well, the breakfast and the service - actually there was none! We were told breakfast would be at 09:00, which was rather late for us as we had a lot we wanted to do in our short stay. Anyway we were outside promptly at 09:00 and were talking to a German gentleman who was also staying (and waiting for breakfast). He ended up leaving as he had a long drive ahead. A lady turned up at 09:20 with no apology for being late. She then asked us what we wanted and when we asked what was on offer she started to reel off a list. She offered me croissants and yoghurt which I accepted. What she actually brought was a stale bagel for each of us. There was no toast even! I didn't get the croissant. I didn't get the yoghurt. She offered coffee, we didn't even get that! The sting to all this was she bought her own breakfast out on a plate and placed it on the bar - she had a CROISSANT on her plate!!! The 2nd morning we left early as we didn't think it worth waiting for the meagre breakfast. There is a lovely bakery round the corner. As a little tip, maybe the staff could stop there on their way to open up and get fresh pastries? That's what we did! I have since put this in writing to the Balcony and haven't even received an apology. I also realised we had left a charger behind and I asked if anyone had found it, again, not even a response either way ... Really disappointed
I don't know what this guy is talking about worrying the balcony wouldn't hold him. The balcony was awesome, looked out over the little area we were in. I had a great time there, the owner was incredibly accommodating, he opened my stay there with a free appetizer and a bottle of champagne, showed us around, introduced us to the LONG time locals, and sent us in the direction of the nicer music clubs in the area. Hooked us up on the price for the last couple of nights we were there too. The food was great, especially the vindaloo curry, and the bartenders and staff were very friendly with us. Its in a nice area, 10 minutes from frenchman and the bars and nightlife, and still close to downtown as well. Very cool place, would recommend for anyone who goes to NOLA.
