Well maintained, excellent condition, reading lamps could be fitted with brighter bulbs just in case one wants to read. Good restaurant, excellent crabcakes, noisy Tavern music, not my preference. If we ever visit again in the area, we would book at Temperance House.

Very clean room that was well furnished. On the third floor so heard virtually no noise from the restaurant or tavern below. Adequate breakfast.

Our stay was for one night. It was a different experience from "chain hotels" because of the history. We enjoyed the history very much but because of the age of the hotel, some things are missing. Air conditioning unit in room was not working. They already had a window unit installed but settings were limited so as not to trip fuse. Person at front desk was always distracted by other duties, other people. Interactions were always interrupted. Room seemed clean. Bathroom still had hair from previous guest.

It was ok, it was different than we expected. Being an old building the bath was small and the a/c was struggling to cool the room.

The Temperance House could be a sweet, old roadhouse-style inn, and it has some of those features: a narrow, creaky staircase and rambling hallways. But the room, itself, seemed to be suffering from design neglect, with two stuffed chairs jammed together in a corner, shades that fail to keep the streetlights from shining in, and an air-conditioning unit that makes startling noises as it cycles on and off. Okay for one or two nights, since the Brick Hotel is worse (another story).

Very accommodating staff and quaint atmosphere. Rooms are small and parking is limited but if you can park everything is within walking distance. Would definitely return.

Three days exploring Delaware River valley, based at Temperance House. An historic inn, updated and reopened within past two years. New owner & staff very nice. Our dining experience was way beyond our expectations with really great food, in a nice two fireplace dining room, off from the bar. The bar is nice too, with live music a couple of nights. They don't serve breakfast, but have a parlor room that is stocked with coffee. tea, juice, fruit, yogurt, packaged muffins, etc, with no charge. Check in, check out easy. A very unique place, probably not for people who are more comfortable in typical cookie-cutter, straight hallway hotels. We will be back.

Thanks so much for the review, Richard! Our music is acoustic but varies in style so hopefully we get closer to your preferences with your next stay. You can also book your table in the dining room or lounge or Godfather room to be away from the music. Hope to see you again soon - we'll get you some more crabcakes!

Thanks for your feedback! We will mention the bathroom to the housekeeper. I can't tell which room you were in as an "anonymous" reviewer, but the limitations for the a/c are only to not set below 65*F. Most hotels have settings on their thermostats that do not allow the air to be set that low. We like that we have the flexibility of deciding what your room feels like and have not implemented such restrictions as 68-72*F only. All of the a/c in the hotel is being overhauled and we will take this review under advisement. Thanks!

Thank you for choosing our little hotel for your stay! With such a large amount of history, design changes can only be done with gentle nudges, rather than extreme swipes. I would love to know which room you stayed in so that I can have a look and contemplate the next moves for that space. Thanks for your feedback!
