We stayed at this hotel for a night on the way back from Washington DC. We booked at the last minute and we took their last room with double queens. Checkin was great, we even got some candy for the kids. When we walked into our room, we immediately noticed it smelled like smoke. We put the air conditioner on hoping it would help with the smell and finished bringing in our stuff. One of the reasons why we picked this hotel was because it had a full kitchen with a full refrigerator, and we had a cooler of food in the car that needed to be refrigerated or kept frozen. We also saved money by making our food in the kitchen vs buying it at a restaurant. We were on the road for 2 weeks, so eating food that wasn't from a restaurant was nice every now and then, and saved some money. After we were unpacked I went to the front desk to let them know about the smoky room and to make sure we didn't get blamed for the smell. It is a smoke free hotel and there is a fine if you smoke in the room, and we didn't want to have to pay for that. Since we had the last double a queen room they had available, there wasn't much they could do, but the lady at the front desk said she will get back to me. She mentioned they have a machine they can put in the room that they use to remove the smell and clean the air, and she would see if they can bring that over. A little while later we got a call from the front desk. They wouldn't be able to bring the air cleaning machine over because it isn't safe for us to be in the room when it runs. She offered us 2 studio room, if we wanted to move, but they were not connected and with 2 kids, we didn't want to have kids in one room and us in another. We did have the option to move to 1 studio and it might have been fine for one night, the kids could have slept on the couch. At this point my wife was in the shower and the kids were in bed, and we would have had to move all of our stuff. They offered to help us move the stuff, but we decided we will stay there, it wasn't ideal but we were leaving first thing in the morning anyway. The rooms themselves were a little dated and beat up, they don't look like they have been updated in years. I did see a sign that said they were updating some of the bathrooms, so that is a good sign. Maybe you will get lucky and end up in a room with a new bathroom. There is a pool, but we didn't get a chance to check it out. We had the breakfast in the morning and it was pretty good, there was make your own waffles and the typical eggs, sausage, fruit, toast. When we checked out, they said sorry once again for the smoky room, and gave me some free rewards points for the issue. All and all, the staff was great, and if it wasn't for the idiot who smoked in the room before we got there, the stay would have been just fine. There was nothing more the staff could have done, and I would stay there again assuming I get a room that doesn't smell like smoke again :)

This hotel offers a convenient location, decent breakfast and space. The staff is friendly but rooms need updating. Would have given 4 stars but our room was never cleaned during our stay. I would certainly stay here again but would make a point to request the room was cleaned and fresh towels provided.

When we arrived we were told they tried to call us all morning Our phone is in our home which we had just spent several hours driving away from. That wasn't the purpose of giving the phone number when joining/booking. Our loft suite was unavailable due to other guests not leaving. They wanted to give us 2 stacked rooms and wanted to charge us MORE for the second night. We are a family of 4 including a 12yo with autism, the reason for the trip(to see a doctor), who is promised a loft room to get him to tolerate the trip. Well he was disappointed. They split us up and I couldn't even be in the same bed as my wife. I had to argue with them more than once to get the second night to be the same price as with the loft. It is surprising no comp was offered, be it discounts or Marriott points. Other Marriott properties have done so on a large scale at times for minor hiccups, without me even complaining. This place, nothing. They don't seem to care. The breakfast is lacklustre. The wifi is week and disconnects often. The pool does not seem very clean. One of our rooms smelled like BO.

Clean quite convent - they have mixers (happy hour) with free beer (shock top) and wine. The night I was there had patoto salad, fruit, bread, sausage & works. Could made a very good meal if you wanted. Left early in am, so no comments on breakfast, but they did give me coffee from their staff office. I am planning on trying more of this chain as I travel. Easy on and off freeways (short distance).

The place looked a bit run down from the outside, however the room was pretty nice. Spacious kitchen area and bathroom, comfortable desk and lots of closet space. Breakfast served was ok. I liked the fruit a lot more than the hot options. Major draw back was having to step over dog poo everywhere. Right in front if my door a dog threw up and although I reported it, it remained there for two whole days. Front desk staff was super friendly, it just seemed no one wanted to clean it up.

Our group of three held an all-day planning session in the suite of one partner who stayed in the room the night before. He reported the sleeping quite comfortable. As a meeting the room, the suite was perfect for our small group. We had four comfortable chairs a good-sized table, space for a flipchart easel, and a kitchenette totally equipped and with a large Coriander counter table that we could sit around to eat our take-out lunch as we continued the meeting. Worked just fine.

Myself, wife and son have just recently stayed at the Residence Inn and found it to be very convenient to go visit my relatives and also all the shops nearby. The rooms were very cozy and spacious and the kitchenette is a great addition to it. I felt like I had my own condominium. Breakfast was wonderful and the staff was kind and helpful. I would definitely go back again.

We had one of the Penthouse suites. The Penthouse entrance is on the second floor of the building containing four other units. The ground floor has a full kitchen, dining table, couch/bed, television and a separate bedroom. The bedroom has a full bathroom. The second floor has a king size bed and a full bathroom. The hotel has a free buffet every morning. The food was very good for a buffet,

This hotel is in terrible shape. The staff are exceptional but there is little they can do because this property needs a major overhaul. It looks dirty, but it is just so old and outdated that it cannot be cleaned. I was told a major remodel will be done in Jan 2018. I'm sure after that date, this will be the place to go BUT not now! Marriott should be ashamed of this property. it is no where near a Marriott standard.

Residence Inn Shelton CT June 24 2017 I don't even know where to begin. 1) if you have housekeeping in charge of the pool area policing it, maybe a lesson in dealing with children should be involved? Or people in general?  I fully understand it is the summer and the facilities are in high demand.  We were actually just visiting a friend staying in the hotel. On vacation with children. A woman advised us that they needed bracelets to use the pool area. The first time she asked there was no one in the pool. After basically kicking an 11 year old. I used points to get a room. We used the bathroom to change and went home for the evening as planned. I contacted the property early in the morning and asked for a late check out as we planned to return around lunch time. I was offered a 1 pm check out. We get back to the hotel about 1145 and a maid was in the room. When I asked I was advised that I could no longer have a late checkout so we went back to the pool area with our bracelets where the same woman proceeded to come and tell us we had to leave. This time with bracelets and 2 other children in the pool including the person we were visiting. It was honestly the most horrific experience I've ever had. Other than this atrocious woman and this horrific policy the remainder of the staff was great.  Oh and because she was basically singling people out she was at least consistent. 4 other guests had to return to the front desk to get bracelets. Including a woman who checked in over a month ago who is on the property for 3 months. So I'm sure you will hear additional complaints. So basically if you have kids and they have friends this property is not for you.
