A Stone's Throw Away

Honestly, we had not intended to stay in Nassau when planning our trip, we wanted to stay entirely in the out islands. But we ended up needing a hotel for one night on our way back. EVERYTHING is expensive in the Bahamas so many people are shocked when they try to find a relatively inexpensive hotel and end up in the equivalent of a budget hotel and sometimes bed bugs! My husband and I labored over which hotel to book and finally settled on A Stone's Throw Away, hoping for the best. From the moment we arrived at this unique hotel, we were impressed. Michael came down to help us with our bags and continued to wow us through the check-in process and beyond. This is not your typical hotel. The room we stayed in, a king with garden view is a bit small but so charming! The decorations and fixtures are unlike anything we've seen. And the bed, soooo comfortable! We went back upstairs and Michael mixed us drinks and we chatted with him for awhile in the comfortable check in area. Other guests had their drinks on the beautiful patio. We retired after awhile to our room and slept well. When we return to the Bahamas, we'll definitely stay again at A Stone's Throw Away on our way to the out islands.

Went to spend some time and relax, although a short trip very relaxing. Will surely visit again. GARTH VOISIN

Employes are a very nice smile and are gentles. I appreciated the garden with the pool abd terrasse. The internet must be loaded !

The staff was not helpful at all. I attempted to purchase a bottle of water before 10 PM & was told "it was closed." Any request we made (which was only one as we checked out after the first night due to the unsatisfactory experience), it was like we were a huge inconvenience. On the morning after we arrived, after we walked the half mile to the resort that provides day passes to those staying at A Stones Throw Away, we quickly asked if there were rooms available there, which thankfully there were. We moved immediately there and were so much more pleased and actually enjoyed our vacation.

This place has wondeful views as long as you book the ocean view rooms. The garden view room has a good view of the ocean but there is a tree right in the way that obstructs an otherwise spectacular view. The room was wonderfully decorated, comfortable and cozy. Water pressure in the shower could be better but your in the Bahamas so I over looked that fact. The real down side is the unfinished construction right next door that's unpleasing to see. The staff is friendly, nice and helpful . If they could and would step up customer service they would have a dream 5 star rating. Even with the bad things I mentioned I would still recommend it if you want that relaxed and romantic getaway. Definitely give this place place a shot!!!!!

This property is completely overpriced. The room was average and the overall staff service level was below average. The breakfast offered as part of the package was not of good quality. I would encourage the owner to spend some time doing some basic upkeep AND train your staff on proper customer service.

The location, views, staff, and service are excellent. This was my first B&B, and it was truly pleasant. The near by restaurant, Travelers, has very good food, and pleasant staff. Access to transportation was also good, but a handful of the bus drivers simply drove too fast, with no regard for passenger safety. Furniture, rugs, and blankets need attention. The atmosphere is serene especially in the garden, and on the beach. There is plenty of exercise if you don't mind the stairs, and the hill leading down to the beautiful beach. I will return again next year. Vincent P. and Michae R.

A Stone's Throw Away (ASTA) is the perfect location for a romantic getaway. I was originally hesitant to book a stay at a bed and breakfast, but my boyfriend suggested that we give it a try and I am so glad we did. This place is like heaven on earth. The house is beyond beautiful as I felt like I was staying in a cozy and very comfortable mansion. The rooms are spacious and nicely decorated and the beds are so comfortable. Our room faced the ocean, and we took advantage of the wraparound porch by waking up every morning and stepping out to enjoy the lovely view. One day I scheduled a morning massage and I was able to get it done on the porch facing the ocean and that was the best! And I can't say enough about how extremely courteous and professional the staff was. They chef made a pretty good breakfast every morning (pancakes, French toast, bacon, omelets, etc or you can opt for a continental breakfast of cereal, fruit, coffee and cookies. And you can't beat the complimentary ride to and from the airport. I also left a really nice necklace and they found it and mailed it to me without me having to pay for postage. They have a couple of restaurants within walking distance. We went to Travelers Rest and that was good. We took the bus ($1.25 or $1.50) to hang out downtown and do some other touristy things, but we were glad to get back to the peace, quiet and serenity that ASTA has to offer. If you are looking for a romantic place to stay, and don't have problems with walking up stairs I highly recommend this place. I can't wait to go back!!

Pros: Close to Airport. Ok. for one night. Wrap arround porch. Comfortable king size bed. Great sunsets. Tastefully decorated. Friendly staff. Cons: If you travel with more luggage than a carry on it is wise to consider another place. The only way to get to the hotel is trough a cave over about 100 steep steps. Do not expect help to carry your bags. No elevator. We had 4 heavy bags. AC had odor so we decided to open the windows and run the fan. But the fan had heavy dust on its blades. We did not dare to run it. Room fridge was empty and did not work. Limited not cooled refreshments are available.

It is great for its location. Close to airport and meetings. As a transit stop it is fantastic. A superior Bed and Breakfast, but typical Bahamas plumbing and ordinary food. Excellent staff. Not for anyone with difficulty climbing stairs.

Our 3 night stay was dampened by the bad weather. While the hotel doesnt have the glitzy facilities of some name brands it was a cozy andf relaxing atmosphere to sit back and watch the rain. The large balcony was perfect for relaxing outside the room. Meals are tasty but basic. That said the home made cookies were brilliant. The staff were always helpful.

What a beautiful place. The staff was so friendly and very accommodating. You can make yourself feel rite at home. They have a coffe/tea bar set up that you can help yourself to day or night free of charge. All other drinks including alchohol are based on the honor system. This is not a place I would recommend to bring the family (kids would be bored). But if you want a romantic getaway, lots of R and R this is the place for you. Free shuttle two and from the airport, free ride to the beach that is just up the road. Lovely complementary breakfast. The most amazing view of the ocean... beautiful gardens!! Highly reccommend!!

This is the perfect place for a romantic getaway, away from the insanity of Paradise Island and just beyond Cable Beach. The staff is very friendly. The pool and patio areas are beautiful as are the views. Breakfasts are included - hot made to order breakfast including omelets, pancakes, etc. You do need to be prepared for stairs. The hotel is built on top of a limestone cliff. You will climb about two flights through the cliff to the pool area, then one more to the lobby - no elevator. As long as this is not an obstacle, this is an ideal spot for couples and single travelers. The stairway tunneling through the cliff gives it the feel of a secret hideout.

I spent one night at ASTA after six days on Eleuthera. I wanted a place near the airport with a little character and style but not a completely bloated price, and this place more than met my expectations. Unique location, beautiful wrap around porches with a number of potential spots to take in the views while sipping a drink or reading a book. The nearest beach is a bit small, but I was told the place as an agreement with another closeby resort with a larger spread of sand. Honor bar system was a novelty and certainly made the whole experience more intimate. I had a room facing the sea. Wonderful floors and carpets and lovely final touches. Couldn't figure out how to lock my balcony door.

Terrific, small, personal hotel/bed and breakfast set high up and overlooking the ocean. Stunning views. Island style accommodation with beautiful porches off bedrooms. Chris and his lovely staff couldn't be more accommodating, helpful, or cheerful. Our room was upgraded to an ocean view halfway through our week at no additional cost. We hired a car for the week, but John is always willing to drop off and pick up guests who have no transportation. We mentioned a couple of minor problems with the room and they were put right immediately and cheerfully! There are many steps to climb to reach the property, so this is not a place for anyone who has difficulty getting around (the only reason for the 4/5 score for location). The beach just down the hill is a little rocky, but Nirvana Beach (about 3 minutes in the car) is perfect! The deck areas around ASTA are perfect for relaxing with an evening drink from the well-stocked honor bar. Breakfast is simple, but good. This is a beautifully relaxing out-of-the-way retreat!

Lovely quiet place. We booked the suite, which was gorgeous! Friendly staff, will drive you to supermarket or airport. Or: love beach! Perfect quiet beach where you can rent snorkling gear and discover all the colourful fishes on your own. We liked this piece of paradise better than the busy crowded center of Nassau. You can also walk to the beach, but watch out for traffic! Hotel has free wifi and breakfast. If you like a quiet romantic getaway, definitely recomended!

A Stone's Throw Away is a wonderful vacation B&B. [...] and [...] a wonderfully nice people and the staff are amazing!!! I would definitely go back.

This is a wonderful hotel. The view is fantastic and the staff was very friendly. The hotel itself is beautiful with its stone walls and steps. It makes you feel as if your in another era without being there. Extremely wonderfull!!

This was a 4 day trip for my wife and me. We did not want a mega-hotel, but something small with resort-like ameninties. We wanted a more Out Island feel, without the extra plane/boat ride. ASTA was a great place for small, quiet B&B. They gave you a ride from the airport, and dropped you back when you were ready to go. The staff was friendly and accomodating; if you asked they helped you or figured out a way to help. It is more of a wine on the porch place, than it is a rum runner by the pool kind of place. It is very close to a slightly larger resort-type location - Compass Point. So, you had access to the amenities there (for a $10 fee). For a quiet place to come back to, that you can still launch great day trips from, ASTA is your place. Beware: several flights of steps just to get to the rooms. Also, bar is very simple - no fancy frozen drinks, and mostly an Honor Bar where you make the drinks yourself with few mixers. You are a stone' throw from the beach, but a short van ride or 15-20 minute walk from a beach you can actually use in comfort. In the end, we had a very nice, relaxing, safe and enjoyable time - paying less than for other properties and not having to deal with big crowds at all.

The Hotel was glorious in its beauty, simplicity and comfort. The Staff was friendly and helpful and always smiling(I can see why considering where they work).Breakfast was included and it was superb as was the [...]. They upgraded us to a better room as rooms became available at no extra cost. Wonderful experience. Quiet and secluded, the perfect place to relax and truly vacation without any worries. I highly recommend this place.
