We have just returned from a lovely 7 days in Naples staying at Le stanze del Vicere. Max is a unique character that compliments the charm of the building and surroundings. Max is always interesting and interested in where you have been and what you have been up to. He really makes you feel at home and is very helpful. Great location, lovely room and in easy reach of everything you need. Thanks again Max, it was a pleasure to meet you!

Unlikely location in a seemingly residential hood, a fantastic place lies. It is a rustic building that seems to be in a state of decay, however, very well kept on the inside. Great spacious rooms, clean spacious bathroom, a great comfortable stay in one of my favorite cities in Italy. I was very happy with my stay if it wasn't for the last night we were not able to get in. You need to buzz to get through the main gate into the building, make sure you arrange with the host when you are arriving if you are planing on staying out later.

Forget the exterier of the hotel; it is clean and spacious. Max and 'Queen' will look after you - excellent place for a Neapolitan holiday. Also if you are unsure where to go to eat, check with Max he can always recommend somewhere amazing!!

We stayed at this hotel for the entire 10 nights of our stay in Naples and only have good things to say about it. It is already well located (the Archaeological Museum and the catacombs being within a 10 minutes radius) but it is also a good starting point for daily explorations of the city. We loved that it is in a charming historic building on a local street rather than in a busy touristy hub and yet so close to everything. The rooms are kept pristine clean daily by Pina who will also offer you hot drinks (coffee/tea) to go with your breakfast from 8am-10am. We had quite a few requests over the course of our stay. Max who runs the hotel and speaks several languages has been an absolutely legend and a gentleman about all of our needs during the stay. He is a very informed and caring host so rest assured you will be in a safe pair of hands during your stay in this complicated city! We wouldn't say the street felt unsafe as some of the reviews suggest. It is not the glamorous boutique shop streets of the Chiaia neighborhood but with the same precaution of being a tourist in any other European city and a general mindfulness of Naples' mopeds we felt comfortable coming back here at any time of day/night. Thank you, Max, for a lovely stay! The Brits (Eugenia and Mike)

My husband and I have just returned home having spent a week at this hotel in August. Well what can I say! One of the best holidays we've ever had. It was made so special because of the hosting skills of Max. He was one of the nicest and funniest men we've ever met. At the end of a long day of sightseeing, returning to the hotel was like going back home to Max's ! We cannot fault the hotel in any way at all. We knew about the flights of stairs to access the hotel prior to arriving there so that was not a problem. Breakfast was served in a very impressive and beautiful dining/sitting room. As it is a small hotel it was lovely in the mornings to chat with other guests over breakfast. Rooms were spotless and towels and bedding was changed daily. The hotel is in a perfect location. We wanted to sample the real Naples and we were not disappointed. We absolutely loved our time in Naples at Le Stanze del Vicere. Definitely recommend this hotel :) Max you're a star! Molti grazie

Great place to stay in Naples. Hotel is very well placed near the centre of the city (less the 10 minutes walk to the main piazza - it's also very close to many of the cities museums etc.). As previously stated on Tripadviser, the hotel is on the second floor (50 plus steps) of an old and interesting building. Our room was delightful with a view over the orange trees in the back garden. Very comfortable bed. Nice bathroom with a good shower. Room safe very easy to use (combination lock, so no key to carry about). Bed linen and towels changed regularly. Room was spotless and kept very clean by Pina (delightful woman), who also helped out at breakfast time - fresh coffee and espresso if you dare! Free wifi in the room a bonus. Max (owner/manager) was a real character and a true gentleman - very easy to talk with and full of good advice (not just about Naples) but e.g. what to see, where to eat and how to get from A to B - all practical and helpful stuff. He was a very caring host who looked after us extremely well and helped to ensure our stay in Naples went without any hitches. On our last day he carried our luggage down the 50 plus stairs and stored them in his garage (this would have entailed three trips up and down the stairs - much appreciated thank you). Can't say enough good things about Max - wonderful host. Naples is definitely worth visiting. It's vibrant, it's colourful and it's exciting. The local markets are amazing. Okay, there's lots of graffiti around the city, but so what - it adds to the character of the place. We never once felt we were unsafe. We will return!

This hotel was booked for us by our cruise rep to stay one night before taking a cruise from Naples. The cruise rep was well aware that I had mobility problems and although she said there was no lift we were told there were only a few steps to the hotel. There were in fact certainly over 50 steps, very deep and wide and impossible for me to access the hotel. I didn't check any further as I trusted her judgement. Sadly that was a big mistake on my part! We had to pay for other accommodation in the city late at night. Beware - this is totally unsuitable accommodation for anyone who is not accustomed to mountaineering. The owner Maxim was very helpful and eventually found another hotel.

My husband and I stayed here April '17 for 3 nights. The hotel is quite small and is run by Maxim who was a very nice Dutch man. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The hotel is situated near to the city centre and a great base for using the metro or for walking down to the Port. Our stay was enjoyable and comfortable. Beware if you have mobility problems as there are over 50 steps to access the hotel! Across the road from the hotel gate is a handy little friendly shop for water, drinks and snacks. If we were to visit Naples again we would definitely use this hotel again.

We stayed here in July of this year and it was a really enjoyable experience. Max the host is very knowledgeable about the area and gave us great recommendations. Bit hard to find, but it maybe that was just us and our terrible sense of direction. Very nice building with lots of character :) will stay again

When you arrive to the hotel you buzz at the gate. There are 55 steps ( 6 flights of stairs) up to the hotel door, keep in mind that this building is from the 1700s and the stairs are part of the charm. Maxime the host is very welcoming, knowledgeable about the history of the hotel, knows the area well and is great to chat with. The rooms have an ancient character of their own but doing to many renovations to a place this old would ruin the vibe. There is an unkempt courtyard below where you can relax, go on the Internet and see some cute cats wandering about. Breakfast is from 8-10am and is basic but will fill your belly. Unlike most hotels, your hot drinks are made to order so a variety of drinks can be had. Theven museum is just around the corner as is Il Grotto. Pizzaria Starita is just down the street and the cemetery fontanelle is a short walk away. This was a safe area and a great place to stay.
