Sentrim Boulevard Hotel2.5 out of 5.0

We have been staying at the Boulevard for many years, but unfortunately there has been no investment in the hotel, and consequently each visit has become less and less pleasant. On my most recent visit I have decided to stay elsewhere next time. Further to the fact that the whole hotel is shabby and extremely overpriced now, there are now issues with things like hot water and service. There was not hot water for the shower in my room when I arrived mid-afternoon, and when I complained I was told that it would not be able to be fixed until the next morning. What a shame that what was a really nice hotel to stay at has gone downhill so much.
Location at city area. There is lots of traffic jam in Nairobi. Good security gate. Many travel agency start their safari tours from here. Hotel room is basic but have kettle, coffee tea, hair dryer and safe. Big bathroom shower style..small flat screen tv. The hotel has a pool. It is not a new hotel. There is no air conditioning in the room. They serve very good breakfast.
I enjoyed my time at Boulevard immensely, the hotel is nicely situated, an easy 2 minute walk from the Nairobi National Museum and there are taxi drivers on site to help you if you need to go further out (as we did with the Karen Blixen museum, giraffe centre and elephant orphanage). The restaurant serves breakfast (included in my booking), lunch and dinner (dinner as late as 21.30) and they are more than willing to bring it to your room should you wish. The bathrooms are clean, shower pressure is ok and the beds are comfortable. The bar is also quite nice, a Tequila Sunrise costs about $6 so not super cheap, but tasty (and it is hotel price so around what I expected). The only slightly negative thing about the hotel is the Wifi which tends to log out a bit and is not so good, but being Nairobi I wasn't expecting it to be top notch so I wasn't particularly disappointed by this. The best part about the hotel is the staff though. Everyone I met was professional, nice and really friendly, I felt right at home and was sad to leave them. I will definitely stay here again on my next visit to Nairobi.
We stayed in this hotel after our flight for only one night before leaving to south of Kenya. This is ok for a halt during our journey but we would not recommend it for more. The room is functional and breakfast really simple (probably lack of chance but majority of plates were empty : cheese, bred, coffee...).
We stayed at Sentrim Boulevard for one night ahead of a safari. The hotel was located not too far from the airport, the rooms were ok (if a little bit tired) and the breakfast was a fairly standard buffet. We found the staff to be very friendly and helpful and the process of picking up our safari worked very well.
We needed a place to stay in Nairobi for one night between safaris and this place fit the bill. We chose the Boulevard mostly due to its proximity to the Nairobi National Museum. It's just a five minute walk around the corner to the museum. The grounds of this hotel are very beautiful. We walked around looking for birds of which there were many species. The only negative is the smell of the river that runs behind the property. The room was an average hotel room with a large safe. There were two small complimentary bottles of water in the room. This was nice but we had three people in our party and it would have been nice to have a third bottle. The landings on the stairs are decorated very well and there are nice seating areas near the stairs on each floor. The complimentary breakfast was very good. It was buffet style just like the safari lodges that we stayed at on our trip. There is a chef that makes eggs to order. We ate at the restaurant for dinner as well and had very good Chinese food. Our waiter was very good. The fan in the room was a welcome relief to me. I like to be a little cool when I sleep.
The Hotel doesn't seem to have been renovated, not even retouched here and there. A river stream that flows by gives a romantic impression, only to be surprised by the stinky smell it develops on and off. The Hotel is good for those who are basically on transit. However, the breakfast is plenty and has variety, the staff friendly and you may get a back-up service (from the front-desk), since the business center is closed. The price is right as long as you cope with guests arriving at 5AM and/or leaving late.
In July 2017 stayed 4 nights (winter time in Nairobi). Big windows and comfortable breezes made the room comfortable without AC during the day. Mosquitoes were a problem at night because there were no screens on the windows and there is no mosquito netting for the bed. Excellent breakfast and large showers with hot water added to the comfort. Excellent location near downtown while located in an oasis of trees and calm. The staff were very helpful and cheerful.
Sentrim Boulevard Hotel is a typical Nairobi city hotel. It could need a refurbishment but is ok if you just need a place to sleep before travelling on. The best part is the restaurant which serves good food. The hotel is next to a smelly river, so if you dont like the smell of sewer stay away from the garden.
I hop in and out of Kenya for business and always stay at Boulevard. The staff are very helpful and efficient and nothing is too much trouble. The rooms are very clean and comfortable with good wifi throughout. The front desk is always helpful in making arrangements. The pool area and gardens are very relaxing. It is easy to get to from the airport or road and despite being in Nairobi is very quiet and calm.
