Stayed with my husband. We were a late arrival and they made it so convenient. The room was comfortable but the breakfast and company in the morning was more than I could have ever expected. We will stay again in the future without a doubt!
Valerie and John go out of their way to make you feel at home in this amazing B&B. This was my 2nd stay, and it was a privilege to come again. I happened to be there during a storm, and John called to see if we were ok coming back, and then left a giant flashlight by the front door. In spite of no power the next morning, we still had an amazing breakfast and hot water for showers. This is like coming home. If you have any type of food preference, Valerie is on it! She is an amazing chef, and who wouldn't love cobbler for breakfast? Thanks for another amazing stay.
We have stayed in many B&Bs and love having the experience of a home away from home. Typically you find a nice, clean room and a continental breakfast. At Amanda's Bequest the rooms are spotless but there is so much more. The Inn has historical significance. It's fun to learn about its past. John and Valerie have thought of everything, from extra quilts to a bit of chocolate and fully stocked coffee/tea service. The breakfast is farm to table and multi-course. The grounds are lovely. Rooms are spacious and very quiet. Check in is a breeze, with Valerie able to accommodate scheduling via phone or text. Every detail ensures a comfortable stay and you might even make a new friend.
Back after two years for a girl's weekend and still a great place to stay! It's an old parsonage thats been remodeled and feels like a country farmhouse. Nothing fancy but down home'ish. It's all about the people and the owners...and the great breakfast which usually starts with homemade pie! We love the Montague/Whitehall area...you can unwind here. There's a quiet beach nearby, some great Chamber Music Festival. Great concerts and we managed a free one at the local book shop/coffee shop/restaurant. Don't forget to eat at the Old Channel Inn. Best walleye in ages! And it's a short drive to the lake for a great Michigan sunset. Enjoy!
Thanks to the warm hospitality and great talents of proprietors John & Valerie Hanson, we had one of the best B & B stays ever! What they’ve done with this historic home is entirely charming and gives visitors the sense of walking back in time but with all the modern comforts and conveniences you want, plus a few quirky surprises on the property’s walking trail, as well as an enchanting colorful garden that, during our visit in mid-August, was aflutter with butterflies! That’s a pretty sweet welcome! Our room was cozy and the bed was super comfy, and we had access to plenty of spots indoors and out to sit and relax. BREAKFAST! Wow. Valerie’s a chef (no, really!) and she presented us with two memorable breakfasts that have no equal at any other bed and breakfast we’ve “breakfasted” at ever! I mean, this is what Bed & “Breakfast” is supposed to be! You have to go and experience Valerie’s cooking. It’s the kind that makes your mouth really happy, thrills your tummy, and warms your heart because you can tell that it’s all made with love. Seriously. This review is already too long, so I’m stopping here. Please just go to Amanda’s Bequest and enjoy your stay. I promise it’s worth it, and you might also discover two new friends in owners Valerie and John. Go!
This is an amazing B&B! John and Valerie are really friendly and make you feel welcome! The food is amazing and the property is really beautiful. We loved the local restaurants and the suggestions from John and Valerie on things to do and see. This was definitely a great first b&b experience for us and will definitely be back!
Bed and Breakfast typically are not our thing - but I have to say we felt quite at home and welcomed at Amanda's Bequest. May convert us to B&B's. What a beautiful home with a unique history. We were also happy to find a geocache (one of our hobbies) on the grounds and so many places to find solitude and nature on the grounds. The house inside and out are absolutely beautiful and the decorations are so unique and full of personality and charm, we really loved seeing everything and I imagine we did not notice every unique detail. So nicely done and each room unique. Fun outside and inside. So many places to sit and watch the wildlife and smell the flowers and watch butterflies, chickens, deer, ducks, bees and more. Especially loved seeing the family of deer come in the early morning and late afternoon on the property as I enjoyed coffee on the porch. The breakfast and hosts were outstanding. John and Valerie were so accommodating and kind. Valerie can cook and was awesome at meeting a vegetarian and gluten free guest needs along with those of us that did not have dietary restrictions. The conversation was wonderful. The suggestions for time in the town and places to see and eat were right on target. The place is within the town yet far enough out for privacy. I may have to return for cooking lessons or to learn to make soap. We were there for the ride across Michigan. We appreciated the owners letting us park in the shade and make accommodations for our little friends who traveled with us. Just can't say enough positive things about our one night. Wish we would have been able to stay longer. This is a must see town and must visit B & B
Valerie and John have a beautiful house and are delightful hosts. Breakfast was outstanding! I can see why people travel to take cooking classes from her. The room was clean and comfortable, nicely decorated and the robes were luxurious. We all had a delightful conversation before and during breakfast, very down to mearth people.
We had a wonderful stay at Amanda's bed and breakfast. The breakfast was fabulous and we loved the surroundings of the inn. There are places to sit outside and just relax and unwind. The B & B is close to town and is in a great location.
