Very handy for Munich station this is a nice hotel just a few metres from the station entrance. Room was at the back so much quieter than over the street. Good sized room would stay again when visiting Munich.
Small rooms very small, but I was there another time and got a bigger room, comfortable bed, very delicious breakfast, friendly people, location quite central and very near to hauptbahnhof. WiFi not the best also keeps switching off. Business center scanner and printer not functioning.
I've been in Munich for music and had a pleasant staying here. Nice and clean rooms with bathroom, a very tasty breakfast and quite low price. The location is fine and you have the parking included. I totally suggest it!
Good points - Very close (200m) to the side entrance of the main train station. So dragging the luggage to and from the station is not a problem. There's free apples and plain water at the front desk. That's about it. Not so good points - 1) No free wifi and we weren't told during our booking through Booking.com. 2) We requested for an extra bed during booking but that was not prepared till we moved into the room and the explanation was, "We (the front desk) were not told about it." No apology of any sort at all. 3) We were the family that experienced the same fire alarm that went off at 1 am on Christmas Eve 2017 as the chap from UK who reviewed Hotel Cristal two weeks ago. What was described was true and accurate. It was a terrible experience and the hotel staff did not seem to know the SOP (standard operating procedures) for such events. I must say that it reflected badly on the hotel staff and their level of training received. Fortunately, the German fire department was very efficient and responsive. Fire engines (yes, more than one) arrived with firemen ready-for-action by the time we walked down 5 floors to reach the ground floor. We could not sleep till two plus because the second set of alarm did not go silent till then. That was our pre-planned final night of our holiday in Germany and could well be our final night stay at the hotel.
This hotel advertises as ‘cleaning rooms daily’... our room was disgusting! We stayed 4 nights, sheets were never changed, cups not cleaned, there was mould in the bathroom & faeces on the wall near the toilet roll! Hair in the bed..looked like pet hair.. (we didn’t have a pet) Our room was not touched at all the first day! Wifi and breakfast are extra... I think this hotel needs to get with the times - wifi and breakfast are a basic expectation from clients. They advertise as having a restaurant - this is only for ‘occasions ‘ & people paying for breakfast. Advertised as 4 Star - 2 Star at best. The only positives for us was the location & the reception staff - would definitely give it a miss next time. PS: we are used to camping - so doing it rough is fine with us..but when you are paying these prices we at least expect it to be clean with wifi included. The only right thing to do here is a full refund.
We booked this hotel because it's close to the train station (5mins walk max), so it's very convenient for arriving/departing and generally getting around during your stay. I've seen some reviews that say that it's not in the nicest of areas, which is true, but we didn't have any issues or feel unsafe. It was about 20-30mins walk to the main old town area. Our room was a decent size but the 'double' bed was actually two beds pushed together, with separate sheets and duvets too, so it may as well have been a twin room. The reception staff were friendly and helpful when we asked questions about the area. Overall a decent hotel - not amazing, but perfectly good enough for what we needed.
Stayed two nights at this hotel. The room was very comfortable, and the bathroom is as nice as it is in the photos. The only issue I had was the fact that you had to pay for wifi. Whilst this really isn't a big issue for us as we had data coverage, it may be an issue for those on a tighter budget, without the luxury of having phone data coverage in mainland europe.
The Hotel Cristal deserves the lowest rating. In our first night the fire alarm went off around 1am and the meeting point wasn't properly indicated, the stairs from the emergency exit were super dodgy, and there was no member of the staff in the meeting point nor reception. There was no one to take names and ensure that everyone had vacated the building safely. Using the fire escape triggered a second alarm which I explained to reception as we made our way back upstairs but I had to call again from my room after another 30 minutes for anyone to actually come and turn it off. The following morning we saw two mice on their way into the kitchen, I told the guy in reception and he did nothing!! It's totally unacceptable! On top of everything, if you book the room through third party websites (like Booking com) the WiFi is not included and it costs 13 Euros per day, they tell you after giving you your room key!
I stayed here 2 years ago twice and I was impressed by their service so I booked again and was disappointed. The front desk staff was very nice special mention for Desirous and Ms Shah in reservation was also very helpful. Would ask travelers to Munich to give this place a try, I will be back there soon.
For a short city break to Munich this hotel is excellent, the location is key - 5 mins walk to the main train station. from there you can access all of Munich, the sights and Europe. ok the rooms will need to be refreshed in the coming years but for the price and location its excellent. The only downside is that unless you book direct the breakfast offer is not available, I can only see that the hotel is losing out here as many cafes are within walking distance.
