Didn't realize at the time of booking it was a bed & breakfast until arrival. When we checked in, we were greeted by a hostess who was pleasantly nice. She gave us a tour of the vintage home and let us choose between two rooms. We stayed in the walnut room. Courtyard entrance, beautiful room, breakfast was great. During hor devours the gentleman who owns the establishment greeted us, made small talk about the sun setting, it was nice. Great couples place for the weekend.
We were travelling along the West Coast staying in various hotels and motels. I can only say we all voted this an excellent find. Initial feelings were good with a warm welcome into the reception area. The hotel is filled with antiques, which we found warm and attractive, but may not be to everyone’s liking. Afternoon hors d’ouvres are served in the dining room, which overlooks the sea. The rooms were clean and comfortable and, again, filled with antiques. There is a patio area, which was great for sharing a bottle of wine. Alongside there was a pool room. Nearby were Mr Martine’s classic MGs displayed in a garage setting. Mr Martine is a warm and engaging man with a wealth of interesting stories. A thoroughly enjoyable stay in a hotel just a short walk from the Aquarium and many restaurants and bars.
If you're looking for a quiet, quaint, restful and convenient place from which to enjoy Monterey and the surrounding areas, the Martine Inn is an excellent B&B choice. This is an older house, so don't expect all the electronic amenities. But the rooms are decorated beautifully with period furniture, and the ocean view rooms are fantastic! Staff were friendly and helped us identify great local restaurants away from the tourist areas. The Inn is located directly across the street from great walking/biking trail along the bay and within short walks of many restaurants, shops, Monterey Bay Aquarium and Cannery Row. You'll also want to be on the lookout for several deer that frequent the area. Breakfast each morning was exceptional with tables set to view the Bay through large picture windows. Very relaxing way to start each day. Hors d'Oeuvres were also provided each evening.
Love this place with delicious breakfasts and outstnding service! There was so much charm with a warm hostess. The staff accommodated for me to have a comfortable mattress. We felt so welcome. I highly recommend the experience!
Everything about the hotel -- service, breakfast, room, etc. -- was perfect. The ocean view from the room was great (and the provided binoculars a nice touch). The location is wonderful, just in front of the sea, a few minutes from the aquarium.
What a great find. My wife and I wanted to take a quick trip away to relax and unwind. We found reviews on this property and made our reservations. We were not disappointed. The Martine Inn is in a great location located on Monterey Bay. We chose a room that overlooked the water. The rooms were decorated nicely lined in lace, antique furnishings, and in our room a four poster bed. The whole atmosphere of the Inn was amazing. The best part of the stay was the outstanding hospitality and attentive service of the staff. Our sincerest thanks to the Staff and Inn. Aldo
Martine Inn was everything I was looking for in my stay - cozy feel, right on the ocean, charming decor. The staff were extremely friendly, and the breakfast to die for - sadly I missed the second day due to having to leave early, and they offered a co continental breakfast to go! Coffee and goodies all day in the lounge, nightly wine and appies. Location is perfect, the ocean in my ears at night. My room had a fireplace and soaked tub. It was a perfect relaxing getaway. I highly recommend staying in Pacific Grove (instead of the higher priced, more touristy Carmel), and I highly recommend Martine Inn. I will be back!
Oceanside, charming inn. Beautiful views of water and sunset from multiple areas inside and outside available to all guests. Attentive staff, delicious full breakfast and nice light happy hour fare. Walkable to downtown PG and coastal trail directly across the street. Don’t tell a soul— great place and value!
My husband and I do not usually stay in older B&Bs (allergy to dust), but we decided to celebrate our anniversary in a different way, and we were fine here. Upon our arrival our hosts had a bottle of sparkling wine and some chocolate dipped strawberries on ice waiting for us in our room! Each room is unique -- several have stunning views of the Bay. Antique furniture and furnishings included the comfy bed we slept in and the china and crystal we used at breakfast. The Martine Inn is well located --right across from the Bay and just steps in one direction to the MB Aquarium and a few more to Lover's Point in the other. Downtown Pacific Grove is also just a few blocks away. The second floor rooms are not for anyone who cannot carry their own baggage up more than one flight of stairs. There is no elevator or bell staff, so bring your own brawn or stay in a first floor room. It's a good thing to study each room as photographed and described on the Martine's accurate web site before you make your choice. Our room was quiet and roomy, with several windows (including one in the door) that we could open for cross ventilation -- or to simply let in some of the salty Bay air (as with most Victorian mansions, there is no A/C). A ceiling fan could help in warmer weather. The mini-fridge among all the antique furnishings in our room seemed out of place, but it was welcome and useful. The Martine staff had it all covered.
This bed and breakfast was all around enjoyable and would have received 4 or 5 stars if not for the tall InnKeeper with short black hair. During our check in she was rather loud and spoke over us and seemed frustrated when we had a problem working the door. We asked for a restaurant recommendations and she didn’t leave us alone after a few recommendations, she just kept going on and we wanted to go on with our day. Along with that she didn’t comprehend personal space. The bed and breakfast itself was lovely, a bit run down but that come with a Victorian Inn. The breakfast was delicious as well as the rest of the service we received during our stay. We love the different ocean view parlors and the antiques were to die for. All in all it was a good experience except for our initial arrival.
